Draft whispers, rumours & scuttlebut

Oh boy….

There are Terrabytes of data stored in the GFC board threads about Mitch.

6 years - massive injuries for 3 of them - shoulder recos and busted legs. Grew a bunch in his last year before being drafted and never was able to bulk up his body. Talent a plenty. Great reader of the play and ball in flight and sublime kick for goal - think Gunston.

Was knocked for not trying hard enough in rehab to get back - and then not going hard enough in the game. Whether that was mental or physical never really determined. Also, once he finally got back to fitness and form, was kicking bags in the VFL, chris Scott just didn't get him consecutive consistency in the AFl side. Moved him around CHF, Flanks and even down back. Copped another small ankle injury at the worst time and ran out of chances.

Being called everything from spud to star.

Would be great to see him get a gig and do well.

Go Catters

Thanks daz, seemed unusual that he was delisted given the games he played in his final season but I know there's always a lot more to it than that.

The greater shock was not that the cats delisted him - they had enough injury prone talls, just signed Mitch Clark and probably knew they were 12 months from Henderson.

But that no one took a chance on him last year. I wonder if he told clubs he'd rather play VFL without pressure than be a rookie.

Which leaves curnow..hopefully..
All conjecture points to the Dees being almost sure to take one of the two KPFs at 7, if not at 3. Presuming as people do that Parish is going at 3, that pretty much leaves whichever of Weideman and Curnow that Essendon ignore to be picked. McKay is a good bet people are saying, the last McKay you had was pretty good!

How do you rate Curnow v Leverde this time last year, both players had there fans and were spruiked to go high and for what ever reason people went cool on Leverde.. seems the same is happening with Curnow.
Very different players.

Would like to see more of Curnow.

Laverdes a midfielder, Curnow will be a forward, i personally cant see him being a midfielder at all he just doesn't have those traits.

No idea if people are cooling on Curnow.

Laverde i had no idea. He didnt really slide. He was just over pumped on BF. Quayle had him going at 17 to the bombers before the draft.

Quayle's phantom draft isn't a good indication of whether or not a player slid or not. As she uses inside knowledge and releases it the day before the draft.

He's a combination of Matthew Scarlet, Luke McPharlin, Ben Rutten and Darren Glass, with the rebounding skills of Harry Taylor and Michael Johnson. He discovered a cure for cancer at six years old and is believed to be the latest incarnation of the Buddha.
Rookie list then?

Wouldn't surprise me. Hard life on the rookie list, and recruiters now pay more attention to state league football than they had in the past.

Concerned about McKay. Could quite possibly be another Hampson.

Non imposing forward that isn't actually good enough to be first or barely second string KPF.

Maybe a little harsh. He has huge upside & he's only eligible for this year's draft by 12 days... If he weren't he'd be considered a possible Top3 pick next year.
I think he has got KPF stamped all over him given his athleticism and marking ability for a 200cm player but will need time. I like him.

Personally i see Weideman and H.McKay being available at 7 for Melbourne. Hopefully Carlton get the fish that John West rejects at 8 or 10. I like them both.

I think McKay might be the one Melbourne have their eye on but could be Weideman also.

For Carlton, i reckon it will be 2 of McKay, Weideman, Oliver and Balic at 8 and 10.

This draft is very interesting and will be a great Draft Night watch.

McKay only weighs about 85kg though and is close to a 2016 prospect. He won't be ready for years. Taylor said the other day that we want to get a move on with the kids, hence the interest in Curnow I guess.

Oliver might be gone by pick 8, in fact the more I think about it the MORE I feel Essendon will draft him at 4 or 5, and I won't be shocked to see them pass on Francis to pick Oliver up.

it's so interesting isn't it. Could go many ways.

I have Essendon taking Curnow and Milera with Oliver and Francis as other candidates.

Jeez Milera would be a reach. I get why he is rated but top 5...that is pushing it in my book.

Funny I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. Hampson mk 2

All you could do with deal like Krakouers and Lee's is maybe try and rate them by the points system brought in for the academy stuff this year. Lee's deal I suspect would be equivalent to a very low pick (my recollection being he being for a pick downgrade from 12 to 16 I.E. not much). Krakouer + pick 25 was for a 4th 5th and 6th round selection plus Ceglar. Again I suspect that would work out to be a lowish pick. Plus Kraks had just won a Sandover and Simpson (I was at that GF; 42 touches and 4 goals including the last minute winner. The most astonishing individual performance I have ever seen in the flesh in terms of the gap between a player and everyone else on the field. Not sure people are rating Browns performance at that level.) Also wasn't Krakouer delisted, at least partly, because he was up for assault?
Morris hadn't actually played AFL when he was pre-listed then traded so N/A.
Deal was
Collingwood: Krakouer, Ceglar, 56, 78, 95
GC: 25

On trades:
Collingwood
2010: 56 with 44 to Fremantle for Tarrant + 45

GC
2010: 25 with 5, 27 + Bewick to Brisbane for 10, Brennan compo + 48.
2012: Brennan compo with 2 + 67 to GWS for Palmer compo + mini draft 1
2015: Palmer compo (19) was part of the Dixon deal, basically gaining 31 and 2016 2nd (Rich).

Ignoring all of the on trades using the points system the value was about pick 34 for Ceglar + Krakouer. Also worth remembering that 12 17 year old players formed part of GC's concessions the previous year, so weren't available in the 2010 draft.

Isnt inside knowledge the best. Im talking about at that time.

Players rise and slide all year based on form/injury ect

I think Quayles list is a good guide it shows who slid on draft day

Argument gets a good run to say they have upside. Yet the twins are draft eligible and just ten days younger than Collins who has performed at a high standard. Yet Collins arguably has more critics who don't see an upside and a raw talent. "Buying low" is just as risky as Carlton drafting Burton or Skinner who have had serious knee injuries.

The twins' draft machine highlights are a better showcase of their raw talent, marking and athleticism. Albeit, at TAC Cup level. Ben could be a better value buy for Carlton at 19. Weitering, a possible slider, a mid and a swingman could also suit Carlton.

Definately not the case, especially with Francis.
With his brother passing away that is a massive danger sign for homesickness. Have a look how many have left clubs in the last few years over this type of stuff. Might not guarentee he will but there is deff a feeling that he is a flight risk by clubs and he is sliding in the draft. Even his camp have commented on it.

"Sliders" don't exist, poor predictions do.

I reckon players coming off injuries slide for example Lever/Shcarenberg/Stringer (to a lesser extent) etc... They had the talent/attitude to be picked higher but clubs didnt want to take the risk. I would say they slid to their picks. In the case of Stringer, WB having 2 picks back to back reduced the risk. If they had only had 1 pick, would they have risked it?

It's playing out all over again with Curnow or Weidemann possibly coming out way
