There was a point made on the Carlton board during the week that the last Carlton players from the 1993 GF were Ratten and McKay, who retired in 2003. Of course, we still have Fletcher going eleven years later.

Anyway, the discussion then turned to who the first players to retire were. Ours was Timmy Watson. One of the Carlton posters then observed rather dryly that Mark Athorn was Carlton's first retiree from that game- at about half time. :D

Try 21 years.

What's wrong with Goddards goal kicking? was a reliable set shot you.

What's wrong with Goddard full stop??

Has no spring in his step, looks lethargic & excluding last week is having no impact on games. If he's not injured which I suspect he is, we really need him in the thick of it when the whips are cracking next week if we're to win.

Plus, why does he lose concentration sometimes when kicking for goal. It would have been harder to miss that set shot he had than kick it.

I was at the last Carlton draw as well.

Same,

After both these games i havnt felt too bad too be honest. Last time we had no bench and we managed to draw it, it felt like a win almost. This time, i was just happy we locked in 7th.

I don't think it's a bad result. We get the same game next week and the lads get a bit of a shock.

Hopefully they'll be on from the first bounce now.

I was hoping that from last week.

Age is catching up with him. The pace of the game hss gone up a cog.

Doubt he'll reach previous heights but i reckon he can still be a solid contributor for the next 2 years with the odd great game.

Goddard never really had pace. He's just a pure footballer of the highest calibre. I think this will hold him in good stead as he gets older.

I also think he's a big game player and can't wait to see him in the black and red in a finals series. I truly hope we can win a GF for him.... and one more for Chappy.

How many get out of jail cards do we actually have?

I was at that end, and could not believe that they simply did not get the ball over the line. Gibbs take a mark with 59 seconds left on the clock. What does Mick Malthouse do? He get's up and walks down the boundary line. Who is communicating to the runner? You see a runner stand 10 meters to the right of Gibbs most likely telling him that there is less then 30 seconds left. Why tell him for? I would be hovering around the goal square, screaming to every blue to simply punch the ball through. We were gassed, there was no way we were going to go coast to coast.

There's some new rule about runners being barred from the F50 when the play is in there, after Nigel Lappin put a block on Mitch Robinson in the final minute of one of the Geelong cliff-hangers we were unable to win :(. The clock was only reading 27 minutes something, so probably no-one in the goalsquare (from either side) had any idea how long there was to go. Personally, I'd rather our runner tell Gibbs to go the torp - Gibbs should have known the time, and that out on the full was no worse than dropping short.

But it was a reflection of the game, really - it was full of pretty dumb stuff. I wasn't surprised we jumped out, because our best is pretty good and your worst is pretty horrid... but having absolutely pulverised us either side of half-time, I can't believe you let us back in, especially given that running games out is not exactly our strength, and there wasn't much on the line for us.

Anyway, good luck in the finals :). No question you have the talls to worry North - I am thoroughly sick of the sight of Ryder, and getting that way with Daniher as well, already. But you'll need more consistency from your mids - the group that played yesterday made our Brock look better than he's looked in a long, long time.

Where's my bump regarding Matthew Watson? Just a lazy 4 goals.

Anyway as much as I ******* loathe Essendon I actually really want you guys to ****en destroy North Delusional Melbourne. **** them up by 100 points and remind them of their last finals appearance.

Sorry mate, you were on the money with Watson. Hibberd didn't pay him the respect he deserved. His previous spudness must have lulled Hibberd into a false sense of security!

Well done your boys for fighting it out with nothing to gain but pride.

I doubt very much that EFC is bi-polar - I believe that the team has been very consistent in their games - Take away our big wins Kangaroos/Richmond/Collingwood/Carlton and out big losses Fremantle/Sydney/Stkilda - The other 16 games have been close affairs - We've only conceded 100 points in two games - And Sydney and Fremantle kicked a freakish 18-5 and 18-6. The graph shows little fluctuation in our games.

16 close affairs against teams of wildly different levels. Remarkably consistent.

Or to ram it through your subtlety filter, Essendon had results within two kicks against 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th twice, 15th and 17th. The only consistency there is playing at the level of the opponent, be it great or ****ing rubbish.

So not so much bi-polar, maybe schizophrenic?

That was my first draw live as well. I had no idea what to do at the end. I just sat there staring into space. I can only imagine what the 2010 GF must've been like.

We are seriously a very average football side. As I've mentioned we're about a 7-10 side. We are no where near challenging for a top 4 position. Not even close. (I dare someone to say ''Oh but we were challenging for top place round 18 last year''). Other then Western Bulldogs & Melbourne, I don't think anyone plays as dumb football as we do.

I agree that in 2014 we are average but I don't think we are far away from a run at the top four. We've built the foundation of ball winners and most of the key posts (with the key forwards almost certain to click into gear in the next 12 months). We just need three to five youngsters to have big pre-seasons to add run and skill to the middle of the ground.

Isn't the problem the fluctuation within games?

Don't confuse the attitude of the fans with the attitude of the club.
you know, normally I would agree 100%, but with Norf I have serious question marks over their mental application.

But really, I agree with you, it's also a pet hate of mine equating the attitude of fans with the team so probably shouldn't go there
