Coad had no one to compete with last year. However this year with Bock Harbrow Krakouer and Campbell Brown all down there, there's gonna be much more competition.

I must say i am struggling to find a midfield roookie that i am happy with.

Swalow and Harris are the obvious choices (not withstanding Harris is mature age,) I have this nasty gut feeling that the gold coast have "outlined" a 2-3 year plan to be a force in the competition and they will rest and rotate young players (including Swallow!) to achieve this. This makes Harris the obvious option.

Mzungu is, on "the limited exposed" form and hype a midfield option certainly. As is Heppell. If you select Mzungu then it is possible that you have "linked" him to Callinan for Fwd/Mid position.

Everyone has Anthony Krakour (as they should). Pretend he does not play round 1 and Mzungu does not play round 1 and Callinan does not play round 1 and Heppell does not play round 1. We already know that Swallow and Harris cannot play round 1 so there may be a donut or two in a few sides. including mine!

So who is the "mid" rookie sleeper.

I'd be looking at Claye Beams or Josh Green from Brisbane. Both have looked ok in the preseason so far and Brisbane have got nothing to lose by playing the kids.

Must be that "Anthony Krakouer" dude. He's so secret that I've never even heard of him!

There are lots in mids.

Conca, Polec, Gaff, Atley

The rookie mids are a bit more interesting this year. last year trengove, barlow, scully and martin were the standouts and everyone had them (or at least three of them).

at the moment atley is very high on my radar. north have shown a tendency to have faith in their young high draft picks and he was a bit of a slider i felt. the problem for him may be that because they've developed all these mids that he might not be able to get into the team, or stay in there.

how's john butcher going over at port adelaide?? probably too risky when there are some pretty good low prices options in the forwards such as Mzungu, Richardson, Matera, Darling

Normally it's sacrilegous to play a guy in the midfield when he play elsewhere but that rule may be bent this year in regards to the rookies where after harris, swallow, gaff, atley and wallis i'm not really convinced on the group. and there are plenty of good options up forward and back so to fit a guys like Heppel, Krakouer and Mzungu in you might have to play one or two of them in the mid.

good write up, on Hunt wouldn't he be more suited to DT given one would expect his disposal to not be great (it was actually OK in the game last sunday) and therefore he won't be scoring SC for his crap kicks....???

re: john butcher. dissapointing. prob wasn't going to DT/SC anyway but i thought he was a pretty good prospect from a footballing point of view.

Im only confident on a few rookie mids and i need to select 5. Really struggling with the 5th hopefully someone will pop up, im expecting it to come from brisbane.

I know one of the guys so i should get an inside word who im also considering to select, but he will also know the hopes of others pretty well.

If he couldn't get a game last year, he won't get a game this year

.

Really??

I have 5 and very confident of 4 playing plenty of games, 1 cheap smokey at the moment and I think I can count another 6-8 that aren't GC players that are a very good chance of playing rd. 1.

He is not rookie

Didn't say he was. However, he is rookie priced. Just interested as to how Mick Malthouse will use the sub. My initial concern with picking AKrak was the risk that he would be the sub.

However, I suspect the top sides with the stronger lists are more likely to use the sub as a genuine injury cover and keep them on the pine longer (ie possibly until after 3/4 time) whilst the sides looking to rebuild and blood rookies will give two rookies a half each. Brisbane is a prime candidate for the latter.

My theory is this - Mick would be less inclined to have AKrak sitting on the pine for three quarters but could happily let someone like Buckley sit there as a genuine injury sub if needed.

Just a thought. Based on his NAB form and the improvement each game, AKrak is looking more likely. Just hoping there is someone else in line for the green bib. Put it this way, if AKrak and someone like Buckley were both named round 1, I'd feel a lot more confident picking Krak.

I think there's a pretty damn good pool of mid rookies, however the no. that will debut rnd 1 will be quite slim. This means we are going to be SPOILT with downgrade options when injuries start to hit sides... but we might not have the greatest starting rookies... so..... hm.... i don't know. I'm very confused. And the bye throws up some interesting scenarios where people are planning on wasting trades to get their rookies right, rather than picking the ones they are confident in from the beginning. I will definitely be going lock and load on my rookies and sticking with them unless injuries come up. Jumping on board a flasher won't be necessary this year. (Unless you were stupid enough to not have them already. Which would mean you wouldn't be reading this post anyway).

what gives you the impression there will not be many rd 1 debuts???

i cant see any reason why there wont be especially the likes of smith, gamble, lower, puopolo, duigan etc

Any thoughts on Darling from West Coast? Will he get early games?

Also interested in this. He was left out of the side on the weekend and he had being doing well prior to this. Any eagles fans know a bit more info?
