Gold Coast - Round 2 - My Guess

B: Toy - Coad - Brown
HB: Harbrow - Bock - Krakouer
C: Bennell - Harris - Swallow
HF: Brennan - Fraser - Patrick
F: Matera - Dixon - Prestia
R: Z.Smith - Ablett - Rischitelli
INTER: Tape, Hunt, Lock, Stanley

Other possibles: Hutchins, Caddy, Iles, McKenzie, Weller, Jolly, Gorringe, Liddy, Magin

From what I've heard Coad is likely to get the bench while Stanley will get a game.

Any thoughts on Sam Isle? I read he finished third in the Liston 2 years ago and won GC Best and Fairest last year ahead of Swallow and Harris. He is 26 in 2011 so is one of their few senior players. He will have a hard body and won't need to be rested. He also is more likely to be consistent than an 18 year old.

I am Toying (no pun intended) with Swallow, Harris and Isle in my mids. Although concerned about having 3 players from one team in one place as it seems like a recipe for donuts. This means making a choice of 2 out of these 3. I am locking in Harris, so it is down to Swallow 160 V Isle 97.

Any wisdom for this conundrum? Isle seems like the smart choice assuming he is up and about.

FWIW, I'll take a guess at the rookies to be named round 1 ...

Backs - Tarrant, Heppell (mid), B.Smith, McKernan (fwd), Duigan, Hibberd (mid), Puopolo
Other possibles: Lower, S.Buckley (mid), Batchelor

Mids - Gaff, Polec, Conca, Heppell (def), Krakouer (fwd), Atley, Hibberd (def), Beams, Irons
Other possibles: S.Buckley (def), Pittard, Green, Liberatore, Wallis, I.Smith (fwd)

Rucks -
Other possibles: Derickx, Moran, Bailey, Vardy, Redden

Forwards - Krakouer (mid), McKernan (def), Richardson, Darling
Other Possibles: M.Brown, Michie, Skinner, I.Smith (mid)

Yeh, pretty close Benno on what I've seen. A couple I differ on slightly.

- Puopolo is borderline at best, I think Batchelor will play, B Smith a big sub or subbed off candidate

- Atley and Irons both likely but both strong sub / subbed off candidates as per yesterdays final hitouts. Beams might just miss but wouldn't surprise. Gaff a sub candidate.

- Bailey may not be ready for Rd1

Gold Coast

- Risca may tag so I think Lock will miss.
-Coad is more of a 3rd tall. Maybe Tape / Hutchins at FB, Coad in the pocket and Hunt off the bench.
-Iles would play if fit but there must be doubts based on his lack of Nab hitouts. GC not very forthcoming. Would nice to know if it's soft tissue or just a niggle he's struggling to shake.
-Stanley will play HF, there best hit up option so far this PS.
-Zac Smith would play if fit but again missed this week and struggling to overcome foot injury
- I reckon Magin is close. If elevated before Rd 1 it's a pretty fair sign he'll play.

Irons was subbed off because of an injury, not for tactical reasons.

Is Tapscott from Melbourne a chance top play as well?

I reckon this Tapscott issue is the most interesting of the pre-season thus far. I believe Tapscott could be a huge cash cow this year. He's over his injuries, he's built like a bull and ready to play. He was an extremely high draft pick. Dean Bailey has already said how much he enjoyed having someone of Tapscott's kicking ability in the backline to feed the forwards.

My tip....get on this kid. What do others think?

Atley looking like he'll be in the Roos best 22? I was getting a negative vibe on this when I asked the same question 2-3 weeks ago.

I find myself constantly switching between Conca and Polec. With Mzungu injured I've swapped I.Smith from the forward line and now looking at a rookie fwd.

I had Tapscott at the start of 2010 and was very hopeful he was gonna get early games. Then he got injured in the pre season, and haven't heard much about him since.

Rohan Bewick is firming for a round 1 spot by the day it seems, have seen very positive reports about his last couple of games.

Jarryd Irons tweaked his knee, from the horses mouth. Should be alright but.

Polec will not play round 1, mark it down.

I was reading somewhere yesterday that Brisbane will be trying to blood their young Mids as much as possible as Black and Power will be gone soon So TBH I would be very surprised if Polec didn't play Round 1

Polec should play Rd1....if not he'll just miss out. Bewick should def play Rd1 tho

I got told from insiders that Polec is no chance to play round 1 and that was after NAB 3. Unless they had heaps of injuries in the last week than he is no chance.

Bewick and Beams ahead and should play round 1. One of them defintly will and ill be on them.

Also as stated above by another poster, hasnt Polec played 2nds the last 2 weeks of the NAB.

what do people think of dixon?

j/s wont be an issue especially early on

main problem could be lack of opportunitys but he is very big so not much chance of being pushed around

another problem could be yet another g/c rookie but as i mentioned j/s is excellent

both pretty much have to play i.m.o because they have something which brisbane desperately need pace

and having seen polec play against the bulldogs and bombers he defitnetly should be best 21 at least

thoughts on having a cheaper rookie like irons or bewick for the first three rounds to make some cash and then burning a trade for a GC rookie? eg Swallow/Harris/Prestia?

assuming they will play three games of course.

What are you looking to gain from that? 40k odd, is a trade worth 40k?

Having watched Gold Coast play yesterday, I reckon Dixon has to be in the best 22! But playing so close to goal probably means he'll only get 40 points a game - Bit weak...

Lock looked good too. I think I underestimated his fitness. Although still not winning a lot of ball from the clearances..

Stanley = locked and loaded!
