Surprised at the lack of interest in Ryder. In our games so far Bellchambers/Jenkins have taken almost all the centre bounce contests then heading forward. While Ryder's played as a roaming wingman, doing all the around the ground ruckwork while being basically an onballer himself. Spent very little time on the bench thus far.

It doesn't matter if he doesn't improve, if he is the highest scoring ruckman by 10ppg then you want him.

Good point, i guess it might give you an extra 5-10 points + on the perfect team without him. So you have more upside in your team. Having said that the perfect team will never be reached.

I also think there will be 3-4 other ruckmen closing the gap.

I'm probably going to go in with Cox/Fraser/Petrie/basement price 4th ruck... but with Petrie suspended and Fraser with a bye in round 1, what are your thoughts as to who will be the cheapest ruckman to play in round 1?

You may live under a rock but if you havnt heard of Zac Smith by now than you should probably start planning for 2012. Most must have player from my concern.

Probaley not the most must have.....but he is still a must have and any good DT'er will have him

By end of year it could end up that way, but with Nic Nat's shoulder surgery giving him a limited preseason and Cox coming off his best preseason in ages I see him capable of anywhere up to 70%. But with him regaining his aerobic capacity means I think he can add another 10ppg to his average.

Overall Cox was the highest scoring ruckman last year, because he played all 22 games. Durability is more important than ever, hence why he gets another big tick for mine. I think with the way that Sandi finished last season Fremantle can't afford to have him break down again. I think he has reached his peak TOG for his career, especially if Clarke or Griffin prove to be admirable second rucks.

Some interesting points, don't think they he will be getting 70% ruck time for many games, but will have to think some more about him.

I like Luenberger's prospects this year, and see Sandi as the best option for 'league win' strategy.

Who would you suggest is more must have. Hes the best cheap rookie ruck by a greater margin than any other position eg: Swan over other mid high end premiums.

70% was a very rough figure in my head, probably unrealistic DWD's figures would be closer. I still think he will ruck more than NN in the early rounds, especially if Cox fires.

I've been very set on having Cox in my side from early on, I have been surprised by the lack of talk about him until recently.

Cox is properly jumping at centre bounces for the first time since he broke his foot 3 years ago. He was best on ground in his 1 game in the first round of the nab cup and i think he's set for a very big year. The only thing i think will stop it being his best scoring year is naita demanding more ruck time. I can very much see naita doing almost all centre square ruckwork with cox doing almost all around the ground work.

I agree Z.Smith is going to have a good year... but is he going to be better than Fraser/Petrie as a 2nd ruck? I don't think so anyway, and the 4th ruck spot I'm looking for is someone to just sit there the whole season, play in round 1 and in case of an emergency. Derickx looks the likely candidate at this stage.

Robert Warnock is going to have a very big year.

Bookmark it.

Keep dreaming. I watched the blues v GWS game yesterday. He was playing on a skinny young kid who was at least 15cm and 20kg lighter than him isolated a full forward quite often.

Took some good marks against a weak opponent who wasn't supported by his teammates. 5 cheap goals.

Is that a dumb question

Is Maverick Weller going to be as good as 6th midfielder as Brent Stanton?

Edit: Cant understand all the hype around Warnock

What's the deal with Charman? why is he so cheap? Also what are people's thoughts on Brad Moran?

Apologies if these questions have been asked before

What is everyone's thoughts on Mitch Clarke? Does anyone think he can average 90+ like in 2009?

Will he play more forward with Fev's departure?

I have him as my second ruck at the moment.

beev i got badly burnt by Mitch Clarke last year, and being up forward would be the worst place for him DT wise. In 2009 he was the sole ruck and roamed around HB taking marks and getting kicks,

Would strongly discourage picking him

Yeah I had him to start last year but traded him out early.

I'm just not sure on who my second ruck should be.

Sandi, 2nd ruck , Zac Smith, Derickx.

Any thoughts people?

Derickx's spot not quite as safe after the weekend. He played second ruck to Graham but Vickery also starred. With the impact of the sub rule, can't see Richmond (or any other team for that matter) starting with three rucks and, Vickery would be a better option as number two due to his ability to play forward.

Hmmmmm i remember someone saying this before. If vickery is played which he should be because of the above reason you stated and i have previously stated than he should increase his avg. But i agree he might still be a year or 2 away from any real step up.

I am with you Man With No Name. I reckon Ryder has the most upside of all of the premum rucks. He marks, he tackles, he kicks goals, he is mobile, and durable. Last year he got good scores without getting much of the ball. If he can develop a little more ball getting ability he will tear it up. And given his age this could be the year.

I am tossing up 2 out of 3 of Ryder, Cox and Leuenberger. A fit Cox is hard to resist, and Leuenberger looks like he is ready to dominate.

Only thing stopping me locking Ryder is the Rd 24 bye (League win focus). Ryder loves to tackle and that sets him apart from most rucks. He can only improve this year with Hille underdone and the sub rule suits him most of all rucks. May just lock him in anyway and take the punt. Ryder Cox - the lady boy ruck combo
