The Suns, albeit a young team, have opted for a Co-Captain structure but we've also seen a very successful Sydney side use it to acknowledge their widely accepted leader but also promote a younger player like Jack.

This brings me to our side. I have no strong feelings towards Marc Murphy's captaincy - and maybe that's an issue in itself. Sure he might be a logical choice if you want a long term option but I really believe the player that evokes the most emotion out of players and fans is Kade Simpson.

I don't want to demote Murph because he's probably still our best player and he has grown into the role but with Co Captains we could also pave the way for Cripps/Docherty who seem hard to split in a few years time.

Interested to hear whether people think it is worth considering and if Carlton would be the type of club to do it.

It's a fair question and nice that we have some options for a change. I don't think any change is worthwhile until Murphy is ready to hand over to the next person. From there, it's still a big question mark and everyone has their favourites. It's Docherty for me, but there's a few who will be in a position to put their hand up. The idea of Simmo being an official captain ticks the emotional boxes, since he has been there for so long and given it his all, but I wonder if he would even want that. I'd guess probably not.

I've given my unpopular opinion on captaincy before - I don't think they should even bother having one. But I'm pretty much flying solo in that regard.

A captain should be able to pump UP his players, not put an ice addict to sleep in minutes mate :p
I want you to imagine, one of our players stepping out of line, or failing to follow team rules... Then imagine them looking over at the captain...

...... Would they make the same mistake again????

I'd like Ed Curnow, Murphy and Simmo as co-captains, with Cripps and Weitering moving in over time.

I've no idea how the playing group would take that, which at the end of it all, is part of the decision making process. Yes captains represent the club externally, but they also represent and lead the playing group, so without knowing their exact culture, who's to say.

That appears to be some kind of implement or tool or fastening device used in the building of things... As I do not concern myself with such matter, I'm afraid I do not understand the reference, Shandog....

Although, knowing you, I have no doubt it is clever and/or funny...

How about Gibbs for captain?

I reckon if they looked over and saw that their captain was recharging they'd get away with whatever they could.

It's his head, coach lol

Granted, it's one of the most serious looking wing nuts I've seen, but still...

Another Leigh Colbert?

Retrograde step to go back to an older Captain, even if he is one of our next legends.

Definitely go to youth with Doc the obvious one. If you've ever heard Bolton speak in public he often talks up how good Docherty is as a footyhead / strategist / leader.

Co-Captains is for Nancy-boy clubs - what's next? Netball skirts?
I hate this touchy feely new-age stuff.
Can the Co-Captains run out holding hands? That would be just lovely!
Take a teaspoon of cement and toughen up.
Jeez!
Rubbish; comes down to the individual characters involved. You can have more than one outstanding leader.

What do you reckon Simpson, Docherty, Weitering and Cripps are exactly?
