I owuld think that 1st round picks would be untouchable given that this is the last of the pure drafts. In my opinion we are only one more good draft away from being a finals side next season.
I'd like to see us hang onto out first two picks this year and use them wisely.
very wise words Tugga ...

With the two new franchises looming we know where the cream will end up ...

Would love us to somehow knob two first rounders this year then batten down the hatches ....

LMAO @ us giving GC17 Bowden and Tivendale on the wrong side of 30 :D... i knew there was a reason we held onto them ;)

The only player i'd consider trading our first pick for would be Kerr. Otherwise, no thanks.

Our ruck stocks are reasonably settled now. Pattison is our immediate replacement, Graham and Putt are coming through. And Polak can ruck as well.

Good post.
I'd hope we have learned from the 'topping up' that was employed so successfuly by Spud the Dud. Let's build a side that will contest the finals series for five consecutive years rather than making a prelim once every 12 years and then disappearing off the radar again.
How is "Topping up" working for Freo and the Aints ?;)

How did it work for us during the Frawley era ;)

One would prey we have learnt by now

mckernans a promising ruck/forward why hasnt any1 replied?
196 cm, 95 kg
this a player nwe mite be looking to draft?

I'll reply.:thumbsu:

Yes, we might be looking at him to draft.:)

I wouldn't see Richmond having a crack at Kerr as Freo style topping up. You guys have been down the drafting route for 5 years now and those guys are now reaching 22 - 25 yrs old. Nothing wrong with giving up your 2008 first pick for an elite player. An unproven 18 year old will take 2-4 years to hit their straps where your current midfield group look like they are almost there in the next 1-2 years IMO.

I posted this trade suggestion on the Eagles site.

Kerr + pick 34 or 50 > Your first pick (5-8) + J King + yr 2nd round pick.

Obviously this is if Kerr wants to go cos we'd rather keep him.:o

I doubt King would want to leave Victoria to be honest. Hes pretty happy with the Tiges at the moment.

One thing i do rate West Coast for is their sensational development programs, what you've done with Josh Kennedy is fantastic. You've turned him from a battler to a genuine good AFL footballer. I think Coughlan would be involved some way. Perhaps Coughlan and our first pick for Kerr?

Tiger fans seem to be set on getting rid of Coughlan to the Eagles. It was a common suggestion last year as part of a trade for Judd. I don't think that the Eagles would go for it; not because he isn't a good player but because he is injury prone and I don't think that we need any more injury prone players. Personally I don't think that there will be many trades done this draft and I certainly don't think that the trade suggested in the first post would work well for the Eagles. So I would say "no deal" !

And besides the Eagles just got a New South Wales rookie named Jake King and I want to hear the confusion of the commentators when the two of them play in the same game but on opposite teams, so we don't want him as part of a trade either !;)

Been drafting for 4 years, and the older members of that group ( the Deledio/Tambling year ) have just turned 21. New draftees will be getting good while those guys are still well within their peak years.

Not to mention, isn't the secret to staying good having quality kids coming through all the time?

This is a bloody stupid topic.
We won't be trading away our first pick unless we packaged it with somebody like Pettifer for a higher pick.
This is the last draft before it is dominated by the Gold Coast, if Miller trades it, their is a good chance he would be stoned to death by a mob of angry ferals

So I take it you think Richmond would be stupid to have a crack at Kerr IF he wanted to go the a Melbourne club?

And last year it was stupid to chase Judd?

And its stupid to ever consider chasing an elite midfielder if and when they come up in trade talks?

You wouldn't consider trading your Pick 5-8 for a Kerr, G Ablett, Hodge, Murphy or Pendlebrey???? EVER!!!!!

You must have supreme confidence that your recruiting dept will hit the bulls eye every time:cool:

If we can do a straight swap our first pick for Kerr we would in a heartbeat and we would be stoked. If we had to add in someone like King/White/Pettifer we would also do it.

IT IS DANIEL KERR NOT SOME MUPPET WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A 24 YR OLD FREAK THAT IS A CLEARANCE KING, IMAGINE HIM AND AXEL DISHING OUT TO THE DELEDIO'S AND COTCHIN'S!!!!!!!

Well it is 6 years left in him and we are probs going to have between pick 6-10 so who knows what that will deliver. I would take Kerr for pick 6, it is topping up it is adding class.

Kerr doesnt go in same sentence as Blumfield Hilton Houlihan he goes with Brown.

King for Kerr? I would do it in a second.

Kerr is 25 I think with 5-6 good years in him as an elite mid.

Will King be at Richmond in 5 years? and if he is do you really consider him elite?

Kerr is a matchwinner. King is a courageous workhorse. Not in the same ball park.

Kerr is worth that definitely. My personal opinion is that I'd much prefer to keep our picks and look to upgrade them, not trade them. We are not in a position to push for a flag, so why would we trade for a player that may push us up a couple of places.

We need to get the list in order and at the moment it has several holes that need fixing. Trading away picks and young players may fix one area, but it takes from other areas we are in need.

WONT BE DONE........ he still has a year to run on his contract
westcoast will want an arm & leg for him personally i think our mids will be very good in the next couple of years i wouldnt trade white.

i would much rather take kennedy for our first round pick & throw in petts, tivvers, hyde, for good measure
