thanks for the comments to my posts guys. But I still don't see what the big problem is. The eagles are trying to make sure their players are getting played in their correct positions, playing to the same game plan to enable them to come straight into the senior side and not look out of place. I dont think this is arrogance its just being smart. A lot of people on here complain about how some of our players are in and out of the team, do you think this is maybe because when they are playing in the WAFL they play to a different game plan and sometimes they are played out of their positions. I thought this would be a massive win for all eagles fans. But i guess not

I get the feeling from reading a lot of these post's that people are under the assumption that the AFL and the WA AFL clubs are out to destroy the WAFL competition. Pretty sure this isn't the case.
Will love to revisit this discussion in 3-4 years time after the true effects of this move are known.
Will the WAFL be a rabble of a competition?
Will the next 4 GF's be played out by only East Perth and Peel?
Will crowd numbers be up or down?
Will the competition be strong or weak?
Will club(s) fold under their own non existence?
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think most Eagles fans are happy with it, but you have to remember the majority of Eagles fans never grew up on the WAFL so they could not care less about the WAFL. I understand that, why should they I guess.
But to us that do care about the WAFL it should not be a crime to be upset with the Eagles and Dockers as well as East Perth and Peel for putting a deal together behind 7 other WAFL clubs back.
Same goes for Foundation day game, it is of zero benefit to the Eagles, gives them no more exposure, gives them no more crowds. What it does do is seriously hurt the crowds that would attend the real Derby's of WA football that are played on that day in the WAFL. How is that good for WA Football? Because Trevor Nisbett said so? It is tramping on the WAFL for fun and nothing more.
They get away with it because they know the majority of their supporters have never supported the WAFL.
If they had tried this in 1990 they would have been hung and quartered by all WA football people, the media in WA and anyone else. They now know they can get away with it. That is big business, that is the big guy bullying the little guy. That is the modern world!! Such is life!
That's the irony of the situation. Due to the pigheaded stubborness of the WAFL clubs and their refusal to move with the times they've ended up with a competition even more compromised that they otherwise would've had under the reserve team model.
You can be successful despite the current system rather than because of it. If Nisbett is to be believed our players apparently loathe playing against each other in the WAFL. Its common sense that players getting a consistent messsage from competition to the next will develop quicker.
Terrible for WA football, but who cares as long as the dockers and Eagles are all ok.
Give me a scenario whereby both the Eagles and Dockers are doing well but W.A football is in a terrible shape. You're not equating the health of football in W.A with the health of the WAFL by any chance?

The health of WA football is not about the health of the Eagles and Dockers, by definition it says the health of WA football.
That is AFL, WAFL, WAAFL and every other amateur and sunday league in WA.
If the Eagles and Dockers are happy and every other comp in WA is stuffed and clubs start falling over that is not healthy WA football.
The game is bigger than West Coast and Freo, maybe if those two clubs respected that we would all be better off.

A logical solution would be to overhaul the colts system, making u18's an independent competition. Thus removing the issues relating to linear scheduling of matches for juniors, reserves and league.
If a genuine West Coast reserves team played East Perth and a genuine Fremantle reserves team played Peel. East Perth could play Peel at WAFL Reserves level at one of the venues before the AFL teams played and the AFL clubs could provide the necessary resources and annual compensation for the one of those sides playing away from their league side.

The truth is the WAFL is mainly funded by West Coast and Fremantle anyway.

I'd love an example where an eagle player has been played at wafl level out of position also.. All wafl coaches play them where they are told for most if not all of the game.perhaps it has more to do with crappy drafting and the poor development coaches at the eagles than the players having to play at wafl clubs. Of course it's more convenient to blame them being spread out than blaming themself.
Why should the Eagles having a Foundation Day game hurt the WAFL? I will be going to see the Mighty Royals thrash the Garlics at Leederville and then on to Subi after the game. It's not that difficult - it is even possible to walk from Leederville to Subi or catch a taxi if necessary. I have done it numerous times in the past.

The idea that a stand alone AFL game on a Monday doesn't benefit West Coast when it will be broadcast around the nation is clearly wrong as well.
i wish they would telecast all the east perth games - im in gero so i cant get to the games but i would watch every one - was good when the wafl was telecast

Were all games ever telecast though? For as long as I can remember it was always one a week which is about right given the level of demand for the WAFL

No One is concerned about next year or even maybe the year after, it is the long term that is worrying. It is the fact that with half an AFL list East perth still have the same salary cap as the other clubs where as they should have now only a quarter of the salary cap, it is the fact that East perth don't have to pay for coaches no more as the Eagles will. Many things all other clubs have to find money for the Eagles will pay for East perth. It is these things that the other clubs want sorted out.
What happens if the Eagles are in the finals and somehow East perth don't make it? Will the Eagles then go and ask the other clubs to play their players for 4 weeks to keep them match fit? I know what the answer to that will be.
You are thinking next year, it is the long term that is the issue especially if East perth still have the same rights as the other clubs. The other clubs may be getting a little more pocket change but the salary cap has not changed.
I know Peel haven't been with us too long, but are any of you Peel fans?
