The coach knows what’s going on so there needs to be a punishment to possibly deter others. This league needs to make a statement
Most coaches never get involved when it comes to the payments of players, usually a footy ops manager or something of the like. He probably knew what was going on but good luck proving that

Errr… they’ve been stripped of a premiership.
Totally irrelevant, they’ve had all the joy from it, no one else gets it, the players don’t return their medals, the players will still have premiership reunions. Pointless punishment.

McGuane signs everyone and is across everything at the club. Directs the entire footy program, he knew exactly what was going on, and they knew they were over, they know they were over in 2024 as well. They’ll just be hoping nothing is found on that.

You punished a team spending 160k instead of 110k by what?… saying next year you can only pay 90k plus a fine of 30k?..:

The team got 2 flags in a row and now get a discount only paying $120k compared to their 160k and god knows what in 2024 haha

Edfl has season launch soon and mick will be guest speaker telling all clubs that keilor is the club to look up to and aspire to have a football program like them
Edfl board will stand and salute

Why weren't their points reduced and starting this year in the minus ? Like other clubs, where's the consistency?
That’s because Keilor have an inordinate degree of influence within the EDFL. They have always received preferential treatment, both on and off field, because of that influence. $45,000 over, and “the club’s breaches were not dishonest or wilful”. Cadswallop!

An effective $30,000 fine would be a huge penalty for a financially struggling club. However to an affluent, well resourced, exorbitantly levied junior segment, and heavily sponsored club like Keilor, it’s a pretty minor speed hump.

The credibility of the spineless EDFL is at an all time low.

For me (if allegations proven as correct) this is a definite line in the sand moment for local level football, as well being a pivotal period in regards to the actual role AFL Vic plays in grassroots football.

Just hope it's a topic or a storyline that doesn't vanish without an education opportunity to all, or is covered over without clarity ... a la those two nurses from Bankstown Hospital last week, or Sam Kerr the fortnight prior where the world lost their $hit momentarily, but had moved on by smoko the next morning.

Not sure what to make of this, but it does seem extremely light on.

AFL Vic had a real chance here, so perhaps by smoko next week this will be another "nothing to see here, move on" moment in local football history.

My question would be, if points are meant to be our magical balancing act, then they've missed a real chance to install something meaningful in that space and regain grassroots football trust.

Afterall it is the games' self proclaimed "equalisation" mechanism is it not???

so many questions

* How were the 2023 breaches not found at the audit at the end of the 2023 season? They would have been automatically audited as Premiers. One can only imagine that KFC were audited and what they put forward passed the test at that time. What has changed since?

* 2024 - Somehow managed to cut the $45k they were over the previous season, and put a better side on the filed than the previous

* I actually can't believe that the penalty wasn't harsh enough to ensure KFC didn't play finals in 2025. Can you imagine the backlash if KFC wins the 2025 flag after all this?

*Once again. lots of clubs probably skirting the rules. Just get rid of the cap and use the points system, which is open and transparent

I'd love to know why afl vic weren't involved? Every other club that goes over cops it from afl vic. Surely they step in with the reduction of points for 2 years and president banned from any official position at any club for 3 years. Wangaratta, robinvale, torquay and Dimboola will be ropeable, none went close to breaking the cap by that much, yet their points and salary were reduced the following year and they started on negative points.

Yes the flag taken from them is fair, but how did they find out about 22 and 23, and what was different in 24?

How does a club spend 110k, 165k, then back to 120k and claim an honest mistake? Who was getting paid the 45k? No club that wins 3 in a row has that big of a change in what they spend, surely afl vic step in for the integrity of footy in the state and consistency
Surely AFL Vic would have ticked this off with the EDFL. If AFL Vic come over the top it would make the EDFL board look incompetent. I just don't understand how a club like Wangaratta cheat the cap by a quarter of what Keilor do and get a lot harsher penalty of stripped points for normal season.

Every other club should just refuse to attend or partake in any official league function such as season launch in protest of this insufficient penalty.

Although they’d probably cop a bigger fine than what keilor did

If every club forfeit keilor home games in Snr and Jnr and let them have a cheap win the Edfl can do f””k all about that
No revenue
Can’t pay players
Sponsor leave
If Edfl do nothing let the clubs speak

Somebody mentioned there is a new committee at Keilor.

Wonder how much that has to do with it all.

Would be a pretty obvious answer to why they passed an audit in 2023, but didn’t now.
Yep 2024 Vice President and head of football is now the President in 2025
Oh and the 2024 President is now Vice President and Treasurer :straining:

Dimboola have a population of 1700 went 10k over in covid, got a 10k fine, reduction in points and salary and started -12 the next year.
Robinvale 10k over the cap, population 1k, playing on 31 points this year, reduction in cap and start the year -12 points.

Keilor win 3 flags in a row, multiple junior sides, receive 0 reduction in points, slight reduction in cap and start the season the same as everyone else.

Where's the consistency? Why are we shafting small community clubs that struggle to keep locals but Keilor is almost untouchable? Come on afl vic get your head out of the sand, this is a slap in the face for volunteers struggling to keep small towns clubs afloat

The EDFL needs to come out and explain how they came to the conclusion that being 45k over the cap was not 'wilful or dishonest.'
There may well be a reasonable explanation for it (I'm not sure how though) but until we know what happened there will continue to be negative speculation which is not good for the league as a whole.
