Coming from a bloke who rode a bike to Perth 🤣 There was a metro comp many years ago called the VFA.
Have 5 or 6 divisions and just play all over Melbourne. Get rid of the edfl northern, eastern, southern and western and put them in one comp. Far easier

DP fan though they were miles off yesterday.

Have a few issues that I can't see the side overcoming this year.

Cleary DP need a ruck and missed the Moose, the starting ruck yesterday looked under done and hasn't played consistently against teams of Keilor calibre. He will struggle against top teams.

The bottom end of the seniors list are not up to the level and shows when they get the ball.
At least 4 players in that team are only in due to points and did not make the DP senior on a regular basis 3 years ago.

DP will overachieve if they pay finals.

I was at the AW v EK game watching a colleague. Jeez EK are going to have a long year. Their 2s had 8 players from 18s. So next week when EK 18s play, the twos will be very short.

Most local competitions look like they have 3-4 stand out teams and the rest making up numbers. Let’s remember that Keilor did similar thing to
Pascoe Vale last year and then lost to them in 2nd Semi. So it will even out a bit once we get into winter and injuries etc.

But Keilor have bunkered down to show how tight and committed they are as a footy club which will no doubt take a very good footy side to take their mantle.
I’m still left bemused as to why the league didn’t deduct player points from keilor due to the breach of the salary cap. They played with 45/46 points so still obviously heavily recruiting. They should be at 38 points if you ask me.

This league is laughable..

Exactly they should be on 36 points, they claim they play locals, yet play on 45 points, piss poor by the league

DP need to start to show some respect for Premier division and the other clubs in it
The solution to any challenge they’ve faced over the last decade and a bit has been to throw more $$ at it.

With the points system the way it is and the strength of the top clubs in Premier, that’s clearly not going to cut it anymore.

That club isn’t playing at its true level, might be time to invest some of the coin in other areas… that’s a long term play though. With the amount of money that’s spent there over a long period of time it’s a bit baffling how far behind they are in terms of overall club strength.

If it had of been a Strathmore or Greenvale that got belted yesterday, instead of Deer Park, we’d be having a completely different stacks on session I think.
100% should have had both a points deduction and PP penalty.
The board and the people in charge should be embarrassed, they won’t be though!

They will only get stronger next week. VFL bye.

Absolute amateurs. I don’t know who runs the club but they operate as if they are in a bush league. Sign a few mercenaries and away you go.

You need a solid core of 25 players and kids coming through every year to put pressure on them and take their spots.

The difference is EDFL clubs also spend big unlike WRFL so that’s the challenge.

I’m still lost as to how the league can be satisfied with the penalty. Keilor win big again against a team like Deer Park who are middle of the division. Penalties should be made to hurt clubs but they hit them with a feather duster..To not deduct any player points is a total embarrassment and shows the league is so far into Keilor it’s not funny.

That’s because the league is ran by fossils and fools that care more for their own egos than the professionalism of the league itself. As long as you have these buffoons running the joint you’ll continue to get the amateur decisions and piss weak direction of the competition.

How they allow today a competition that doesn’t cater for equalisation in 2025 is bewildering and again speaks more about how inadequate these fools running the joint are than the actual clubs, having every club on equal points in a competition today is just plain ridiculous, how a club like EK is on the same points as Keilor, Aberfeldie, Strathmore and co is just plain dumb, act on your feet, read the play and be adabtable for the betterment of your competition instead of sitting up in HQ giving each other backhanders about how good you are.

Before all bigfooty do gooders carry on about EK making their bed so now they should lie in it etc etc just think about the integrity of each division not just Premier, it’s happened for years. The manner in which the outgoing dictator at EK has destroyed the place is unseen before and the league should have acted and consulted and worked with the club to give them the best possible chance to be competitive, they’re never going to win the flag or play finals but to go through the season getting belted does nothing for the competition yet they can’t even field their best available team because they were deliberately raided of their one pointers to ensure they were weakened and destroyed.

This isn’t just about EK it’s about the anomaly that the current system provides for all divisions and how difficult it is for clubs to bridge the gap.

In short the EDFL fossils and fools need to get their heads out of their proverbials and act on behalf of all clubs and not just the chosen few. Instead of having personal egos influence the running of the competition get professional independent people run the place that will ensure the representation is for ALL and for the benefit of the league as a whole.

Hear you mate but extra points for EK or less for others doesn’t fix the problem EK have. They can’t recruit quality players and not sure if they even have the $$ to offer.

Another note I see Douttas 18s beat Pacco.

All the metro leagues see themselves as in competition with each other. To apply penalties like that just means the overall quality of player in the league decreases and heads elsewhere. Only if it’s a few points.

The leagues are self interested and all about empire building. As long as it is left to them, wet lettuces will continue.

Unfortunately that’s the same thinking ability of the fossils and fools, think outside the square and of course having extra points would help a club like EK in the predicament that they find themselves in, as I said it’s not about EK specifically it’s about equalisation and providing a competition that is not black and white, a competition that thinks on its feet and provides the ability to be adabtable to give every club oppprtunity over a period of time rather than just the same clubs every year because they just happened to be the ones that had their houses in order when the points system was introduced.

Have people in charge that are innovative, forward thinking, independent and most of all leave their egos at home.

You’ve had 5 clubs win the past 21 Premier Division Premierships, I don’t care who you support that in itself tells you the league has done nothing to improve the equality of the competition and are happy with the status quo.

Any examples of other leagues that have variable points system in place?

I tend to agree but all variations of points need to be approved by AFL Vic with supporting documents. Clubs can seek to apply for a points variation. EK didn’t!

Ovens and Murray has started doing it. No relegation or promotion involved there though.
Imagine copping a points deduction designed to weaken your team and then by doing so you get relegated off the back of it.
It’s a tough argument. Do you want teams to strive to be as good as the top handful or weaken the top 5 to give everyone a go at success, thus diluting the overall strength of the competition by doing so

Several country leagues do it

Reservoir in D3 Northern league after several years of being uncompetitive have been given 50 points to operate with this season.
They were granted it without any consultation or transparency to competing clubs from the NFNL which is a contentious topic to put it mildly.
