Strathmore head of footy and soon to be president has decided to sack the premiership coach a week after their win. He scrambled for a couple of reasons for it I believe but essentially, it’s just because his old mate Matt Horne decided a couple of months ago he wants to coach again. He’ll take over as president, reinstate Matt Horne as coach.
Huge news if true

Word was Nick Ash was stepping away for family reasons earlier in year, won the flag so if he decided he wants to stay on you would think he would be afforded that chance.

However let’s not act like Matt Horne isn’t the best coach in the league…. Only stepped away for family reasons himself and was always his job when he was ready to return. He is an incredibly good coach and the players love him.

Matt Horne left and encouraged Ash to take the job. Now comes back to take the job back after a flag and Ash single handedly built the list again with some quality players with very little help from the club.

Horne coached 19, 20, 21, 22… yep, got a flag in that fourth season.

Ash coached 24 and 25, begged by players to do the job, flag second season. Strathmore was tipped by many this season to finish lower and some claimed they’d miss the finals.

Say what you want about Horne, but it’s hard to claim he’s a better coach given their records. Ash coached Rupertswood also who hadn’t won a senior flag and took them to a premiership 12 goal win in his second season too. Many of those players still been chasing Ash to come and coach them again.

Horne is a far superior coach, didn’t have close to the list Ash had at his disposal this year mate. Look at the ex AFL and VFL talent …. + the under 18 pathway.

Also, talking about ‘players ‘…. Also well known a lot of Strathmore boys want Horne back and have for a long time.

Ash did a great job and if stepping aside is hard done by, however the replacement is an upgrade and don’t think can be argued otherwise.

Horne had Nobby, Matt Knight, X.Allison, Will Jury, Eggleston available, Winter. Ash brought in a few guys from RDFNL footy, had an older version of Flash and Yakka, and some very young guys. Egglestone out injured, had the balls to make the call and leave the underdone captain out, didn’t get sucked in to playing two rucks. Made tough calls on players when he had to.

Name one thing that made Horne a superior coach?… is that you Ben?

Well it is, perhaps even premiership or bust and the way the last few weeks have gone I would suggest highly unlikely. Happy to be proven wrong, great club and hopefully do well.
And this was just another random thought?… haha

So… what’s your role at the club? Head of footy? How upset out of 10 were you that Ash managed to win the flag and make it harder to make excuses to get rid of him for Horne?.. 🤣

Trent dumont is 10x the footballer of any of those? Sam Hayes is an ex AFL ruckman??? There’s also access to Kyle weightman, Allison and others???

Absolutely imploded mate, certainly isn’t Ben. Not sure if that’s you or not Nick?

Threw this one in randomly unprompted in August?… just a random thought from someone not involved?…
Wasn’t random mate, not sure why bringing this up haha. Ash is a super coach and done a great job, just think Horne is superior and most at the club feel that way.

Bahaha. Everyone knows im not Nick.

Hayes is an ex AFL listed ruckman, played a handful of games, had a good finals but took a while to find a groove. Weightman played plenty for Horne bud… maybe check the 2022 goalkickers… haha.

Dumont?… so good he made the best players a total of four times for the season. Quality mid, but Nobby has an exceptional record, as does Will Jury etc

This’ll be good…
I’m sure the new president will
include all the reasons when announcing the new coach. Must have a great culture down at Strathmore. Seems to start with those at the top….

We aren’t talking internet best are we? Trent dumont only in the best 4 times spare me 😆

No point going back and forth, ask your contacts around Strathmore who they would rather be at the helm next year.
