Port showed us how to handle the Eagles when they were here last.

They have an average forward line, an average defence and no genuine star KPP players.

Cut out Cousins, Kerr, Judd and Matera and they really struggle.

Exactly, Ayres take note...

1. Stinger on Cuz
2. Shirley on Judd
3. Edwards (NOT HART returning from injury) on Matera
4. Rest of the players do your own thing.

Only other guy who needs to be watched a bit (as well as Kerr) is Braun.

Your match-ups are spot on. Agreed about Braun too - he can play.

I think we should email this thread to Ayres. ;)

I guess you try and play your best 22 in the context of how the season has gone.

At the start of the season Basset and Stevens would have been in everyone's top 22 - should they be now?
I cant see Gary picking Bassett - not sure about Stevens - I think Perrie will stay in the side even though he showed some of his undesirable traits in the last game.

Whilst having your gun players firing is important, I think it is fair to say the Eagles are more reliant on theirs than the Crows to win a game. We still have Burton, Carey, Goodwin, etc who can do some damage.

Well you had your chance to do that when we played you in Perth and beat you by adopting the Port Adelaide approach of stifling Cousins, Kerr, Judd and Matera.

You didn't or couldn't.

Fletcher obviously isn't worth worrying about either.;)

or Embley
or Gardiner

I think you will find that we are a different team to what you played last time.

More concerned about Braun than Fletcher.

With Embley, is he actually going to play??

Gardiner can't even ruck at the moment, so he doesn't do as much damage as a forward.

Hope you pick McIntosh, as he was a liabiity last week IMO.

Don't get me wrong, the Weagles have some very damaging players, but your stocks are looking a bit thin at the moment.

They were thinner when we played you last time

Munro- 2 possessions
Wilson- 4 possessions 1 goal
Collica- 3 possessions
Haynes- 12 possessions
Selwood- 9 possessions

Crows v Eagles

Our playing stocks have taken a pounding over the last six weeks - but you can bank on one thing, this team will never throw in the towel. The "Woosha factor" will simply not allow it.

At least we know that playing the Crows we will have a good, hard, CLEAN game of football - and may the best team on the day win. If it is the Crows, then I hope you can go all the way.

Personally, I like the Crows here.

Realistically, its theirs for the winning with the Eagles not a full strength, having a poor S.A. record and aren't in good form anyway.

I think the Crows will win, but as an Eagles man, I hope the boys give it a red hot go and don't go down without a fight.

Adelaide is a team I have a lot of respect for, a highly professional club that is very similar to the Eagles in a lot of ways. Not to mention they have a team of great players, some of the leagues very best.

It should be a good game, nothing like finals footy hey guys ? :)

With Fletcher back in your mid-field & Gardiner looking more than likely to return to rucking duties then i see this game a lot closer than most people,

We have lost our last 3 games & dropped from 2nd to 6th in 3 weeks so confidence in the Crows would not be at an all time high,

If Gardiner is on his game & our mid-field is not then this elimination final could go in favour of the Eagles,

Home ground advantage to the Crows or not this will not be easy but hopefully i will be down this week cheering like mad & as per usual making a complete fool of my self,

Bloody hell we wont lose this one will we ????

What about a slight restructure as follows:

Note, I've left Bassett out because I think that is what will probably happen at the selection table.

Possible team:

B: Hart, Smart, Torney
HB: Massie, McGregor, Edwards
C: Goodwin, Stenglein, Shirley
HF: Burton, Carey, Johncock
F: Ladhams/Burns, Stevens, Welsh
R: Clarke, Ricciuto, McLeod
I: Biglands, Perrie, Bickley, Bode

In: Hart, Stevens
Out: Ladhams/Burns, Reilly

Thinking:

1. It's time to run McLeod in the middle for four quarters.
2. Edwards was excellent in the backline last week, leave him there.
3. Stevens probably does not have the match fitness to play anywhere but FF at this level.
4. We need Burton's marking power in the forward line, having him run of a HF flank gives us the best of both worlds.
5. Can't decide which of Ladhams or Burns to keep at the moment. IMO they are both in crap form. Could we drop them both, put Bode in a forward pocket and bring in a Begley or Doughty? Both are questionable at AFL level IMO, but would provide us another wing option. Alternatively we could keep Reilly in.

I know Bassett is not the flavour of the month but the line-up looks a lot better with him at fb with Hart & Smart beside him,

Burns did turn it on against the Eagles a few weeks ago so maybe give him one more chance to keep alive his AFL career,

Why does Adelaide get more respect from West Coast fans than other club's supporters? :)

I like West Coast as well. They've played some great football this season - that first quarter against Collingwood was breathtaking, and tearing Brisbane to pieces on their own patch was unbelievable. It's a pity they've tapered off towards the business end of the season.

Todays paper suggests Hart, Stevens, Basset and Begley are in the mix for selection. Channel 10 had some interesting news/opinons:

Bass may not get a gig - ordinary SANFL form and 5 goals kicked on him in two weeks.

Hart trained but i dont recall seeing him kicking the ball.

Eagles might give big Quinten Lynch a run. This worries me.

Lynch killed us at Subi last year, kicking 5 goals. We could not handle him, he physically intimidated us big time.

All the more reason for Bass to play you would think, but Bass has trouble with the gorillas. Hmmm ... after reading Ben Ruttens web review yesterday I wonder if he is in the mix?

Jerome

Hentschel is out with a knee injury - only slight.

Jakovich and Embley trained but are still doubtful.

Crows are training at Adelaide Oval at 10 am Friday morning, is anyone going? I might be there, depending on travel arrangements.

Wirrpunda has been ruled out, which is a plus, along with McDougal.

Hope we can survive without Hentschel this week.

Bassett can't possibly get a game based on Ayresy' criteria of form and matchups, but I'd still like to see him in, just to settle things down.

It's such a pity we have pretty much a full list now to choose from just when our season's over.
