Probably missing some players, but tried a rough classification of where I think players are at the moment.
You do need role players & backups but most in that column wouldn't really be missed. Mansell maybe doesn't deserve to be in that column but I'd argue the "hopefuls" have more potential. Likewise Young. Others like Short & Prestia are basically past their best.

Biggest group is the young players yet to fully establish themselves. I'm hopeful on all of these but some could still be busts. And yes, I'm still putting MRJ in this category hoping for a consistent break out season instead of the occasional tease.
I'm struggling to think who our best wings will be next year? I'm still hopeful of Sonsie making it....Clarke if injuries allow. Is it the right position for Trainor?

Today i learnt that the future is ****ing grim.

Especially if the Pro Yze, pro midfield posters have their way.

It's all on you now and you are in a rapidly shrinking minority. I hope you are happy. And I hope you are ready too because we keep receipts.
It was a hard watch.
But I’m looking forward to adding Lalor, Smillie, Sims, Faull, Alger, Gibcus, Trainor, Kmac2 into the mix.

The quicker these guys can get 50 games under their belt the better.

It is a great point that you make ... 5 first round picks missing from that side ... speed in the midfield is what is missing ... MRJ was sensational as a midfielder in the VFL earlier in the year ... it is lost on me why he isn't inserted into more centre bounces

I think you're pretty close with that. I'd argue that the MC sees Mansell as established along with Brown. Young is performing and I'd slot him up a peg or two.

You've probably limited the table a bit by not having a mid/forward row, Hotton, Campbell and even MRJ will be used in mid rotations, along with Lalor as a 35% forward, even Taranto will get more forward minutes to get the others in. Some project as inside and outside mids as well. Balta is being utilised as a ruck forward.

But it does highlight the need for improvement from the up n comers, Lynch, Nank, Broad and Vlas will leave serious holes when they leave.

Yes but if we look at our younger players, we are only missing a few positions…

1. Number 1 ruck. Could be CDT to rotate with Sims but do we chase a 23-24 year old instead?

2. Transition mids - a quick mid that is an even balance of inside and outside but has speed after the clearance disposal. 1 that’s more outside than inside and the other that’s more inside than outside. Sharp would be good here to fill the latter role.

3. Small goal kicking crumbing forward. Perhaps this is the role Rosas will play. Frees up Campbell to play off HF where he’s more dangerous.

4. A defensive midfield stopper in the Jack Graham / George Hewitt mould. Ross is being tried here but I don’t know he’s the solution long term. Could Kellaway be this player?

5. A hard running wingman that transitions between the arcs. Hugo and Banks have these roles at the moment but do we think Hugo gives enough defensively? Darcy Wilson would be really nice here. Would Tsatsas, Chesser or Philips be seen as a low risk punt given what they would cost but knowing their limitations and hope they can improve? Don’t shoot me on these suggestions. I’m not sure there is one of these at the pointy end of this draft.

6. A running defender who’s a key distributor. Who is our Rioli replacement? Could this be Lindsay or Grjl?

With Duursma likely off the board I think one of CDT and Sharp would be ideal, preferably the latter.

On talent, Sam Cumming is the one for us and hope he turns into a mid.

Although if Lindsay and Grjl have good ends to the year, there’s probably good reason to put them up for consideration too. I’d love to see Grjl win more of his own ball in the middle. He looks best as a running half back right now.

Pretty good

I'd have swap Young and Gray and Blight is close to middle column
Short is established, but sliding
Mansell is an established small forward - good but not very good.
Prestia sometimes does turn it on, but he is definitely sliding, so although I don't agree on him, I don't disagree

The absolute lack of outside mids is a real issue. But also probably fairly easy to fix over time.

Yeah. Was going to put in a "finishing" column for Broad, Lynch, etc, but felt I had enough columns.
Also positions, Could have mid/forward & wing/HBF

This article from the age written a couple of weeks ago lists Kozi as being out of contract. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...players-in-the-afl-named-20250804-p5mk5n.html

Richmond (13)

Jacob Bauer, Jacob Blight, Mate Colina, Thomson Dow, Campbell Gray, Oliver Hayes-Brown, Jacob Koschitzke, Tom Lynch, Kamdyn McIntosh, Dion Prestia, Kaleb Smith, Tyler Sonsie, Tylar Young.

Lynch will go around again in 2026 after cooling his jets on the sidelines for five matches, but Dow lives on the fringes, while Sonsie has improved enough in the back half of the season to cement a spot, and Young has made an impression in defence.

Blight has shown promising glimpses, too.

Prestia and McIntosh sit in the wait-and-see category reserved for popular veterans, although coach Adem Yze gave the former a glowing endorsement a few weeks back.

Prestia has played nine consecutive matches in a welcome patch of continuity free of injury.

Hayes-Brown has significantly out-performed fellow ruckman Colina in the VFL, and looks a promising longer-term option once captain Toby Nankervis retires.

Thought it would be interesting to have a look at our depth chart now that the season has ended and we have a good idea of what positions Yze is looking at using players in.

One thing that stands out is just how little overall experience we have now with only 8 players with 150+ games to their names, which kind of explains why we have had a midfield unit built around Taranto Hopper & Prestia as the midfield & back line are the 2 areas where we have the most experience.

I do believe that ins 2026 we're going to see a major change in the midfield mix especially when we have Lalor Smillie Hotton Campbell & McAuliffe being added to the mix, while I also expect a bit of a changing of the guard in the back line given Yzes comments about wanting to have Balta Gibcus & Trainor all part of the defensive unit long term

Nice work, mate. Shows the challenges and opportunities for next year.

In - rosas, pick 3, pick 4, kellaway

Out - Kmac, blight, KOSCHITZKE, colina

Is that more or less what’s anticipated. Strangely I don’t think Dow is contracted either
Blight is a rookie and Colina is Cat B.
Campbell needs to come onto the Senior list from the rookie list.

So to bring in the above, we need to delist three more from the senior list.

No, we don't need to delist 3 more from the senior list. What you are not taking into account is the list structure. Maximum players allowed on the list at the start of each season is 42, excluding Cat B rookies. The list structure can be variable depending on what the club wants do. List structures (Ex Cat B) can be:

36 senior list and 6 rookies
37 senior list and 5 rookies
38 senior list and 4 rookies

Our current list structure is 36 and 6. Therefore, if we delist 2 senior list and 2 rookie listed players, we can bring in 4 new senior players or 3 new senior list and 1 rookie etc.

the way they are going might take 10 years to get to 50. We need to fix the footy department top to bottom.

No way they spend 4 on Kellaway! He will be lucky if we actually pick him. Rosas can't get a game at the GC, and you want to give 3?

We lost to Sydney by 113 points in the last round of 2016. What helpful things did you learn from that match?
