I am sick of opening a thread and reading pages and pages of people posting that (a) Ken can't coach, (b) our players are lost causes, (c) the club is doomed until major changes are made and (d) we don't develop players like everyone else.

This club lies on the cusp of a flag. Until 25 seconds to go on Saturday night, we were a moderate chance of this years flag. Don't believe me? Our odds before the game were 13/1. If we had won that would have been 8/1. Those are independent assessments of where we are at- not my opinion. Ok, the 8/1 is an opinion but not the 13/1.

Our twos are in the best shape they have been in the One Club era. Again, not my opinion- that is based on us not winning a Second Semi in that time until Sunday. Our recruiting has been excellent- even our rookies (Eddy, Lienert, Houston, Hewett, Snelling and Ladhams are all good enough to be retained. No other club would be in that position and we have never been before.

Saturday night's team + Jonas +Hombsch + Atley + Drew + Johnson + Broadbent will form the hub of a very good team for a few years yet. This year we won in more places than any other team ever- Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Ballarat and China. On Saturday night we became the first team ever to win 4 quarters of footy and lose the game.

Off field we are kicking goals- we have a competent and stable board and management. China looks very promising. We regularly attract 35,000 plus to home games- well above the league average. We are attracting better players than we are losing.

We need to take an extra step or two. In October, 17 other teams will be in the same boat. We have holes in our list that injuries could expose. 18 other teams will say the same thing.

This year was a missed opportunity, no doubt. But I say that because we are close. The only danger is we throw the baby out with the bathwater. We have the raw ingredients, hopefully the hurt from Saturday night gives us the hunger we need to turn a very good list into a premiership team.

Remember getting flogged by over 100 points in consecutive weeks to Hawthorn and Collingwood? They were dark days. Get some perspective.

Those were not the dark days. Those were the days where we had nothing and played accordingly. Now are the days where we have plenty but squander it, and actively make decisions which will lead to more squandering in future. That is much worse.

Forgetting who is coach for a minute. I want an answer to the question: Do people feel like we will improve next year. Yes/No and why

Yes, we have got games into young players. We have managed a few injuries to senior players and we have a system that is effective when the players are on.

Prelim next year.

Having a big sook about Ken being re-signed is not going to get anyone anywhere.

The concept that all positivity is drinking the kool aid is ridiculous. You can present your dissatisfaction without the over the top negativity and attacks on the club.

Honestly though, what is the point in anything but looking forwards to next year with optimism anyway? I'm still ****ing gutted about the result on Saturday, but on the other hand it was probably the best game I've ever been to. I want to experience that again next year without the disappointing ending, and I'm certain the players and club will do their best.

If the club is trying their best what more can we realistically ask for as supporters? We have made tough decisions about players this year, and we will likely make more, we have finally found a young key forward who looks worth while, we have some fantastic youth coming through and we have evolved our game plan this year.

Everyone will have their definition of success, and everyone will have different things they want from the club in order to support them. I don't think we were ready for a premiership this year, we simply have too many holes in our game, mostly to do with our forward and midfield. If we address this over the off season then the club will have my full support going into 2018.

Agreed, it's painful reading the majority of threads on the Port board these days.

Lol is that the standard we are setting for ourselves now?

We are good and happy coz we are not losing by 100 points

Give me a f**king break

Forgetting who is coach for a minute. I want an answer to the question: Do people feel like we will improve next year. Yes/No and why

No because we will have a harder draw and a coach who is demonstrably unable to get the best out of the squad.

Gargantuan "if". I see no sign that the club is trying their best.

Not with Ken.

He takes an improving player, and ruins them.

He will not do the obvious, he wants to be clever.

His extreme push exhausts our players, who, lacking a second tall forward, like every other team in the history of the game, are chopped out and if they mark are too wide and deep too often, and so we haphazardly spray kicks.

Our f50 is the most dysfunctional I've ever seen.

5 years the same manic entry and it doesn't work.

Why would anyone keep a coach who loses most every single close game, in pretty well identical fashion.

What jerk would re sign Ken, a proven loser, with a strategy that repeatedly gets beaten?

We need to have a good off season, and address some of our needs at the trade table and draft. If we do this (and I believe we will) then we will improve a lot.

Depends who we trade in, if Rockliff, Menzel and or Motlop are playing for port I can see us improving

But if nothing changes nope, tougher draw, probably tougher run with injuries.. but don't worry kenny will still have 2 years remaining in his contract after we extend him until 2020

No because we will have a harder draw and a coach who is demonstrably unable to get the best out of the squad.

We will have a harder draw than this year but it shouldn't be too bad. Since we officially finished 7th we're actually in the middle tier for fixturing purposes. So from memory that means we can only have a maximum of 2 double-ups from the Top 6 and the other 3 (possibly 4) will be against teams 8 and below.

I think we'll be around the same mark.

Young players will make a natural improvement but some of the senior guys will drop off even more.

A tougher draw and some uncertainty over how our fitness program will operate means we won't have such a smooth ride in the H&A season.

Without a change of ideas we aren't going anywhere.

I look forward to the 2018 PAFC instalment - 'second year blues hit the PAFC youngsters'.

Bit hard to be positive when the most glaring structural deficiency of recent times was overlooked by our coaching staff.

Not what I said. We just made the finals after 2 years of missing out. We have strong memberships, strong attendances, are building our sponsors, have put valuable game time into kids.
If you can't see that this is better/more positive than the club being on it's knees financially whilst putting in pea-hearted efforts week in week out, you're delusional.

We all want a premiership, they don't just hand them out.
