I’ve never heard the term ‘low block’ before. Are you essentially saying the opposition are parking the bus?
Really? Been common for years amongst most analysts.

Can’t believe you’re disregarding us so easily mate, have faith, we’ve got this.

A new RB and midfielder next summer and the question for our supporters will be, “How will you be celebrating our treble next season?”.

I'll be stoked if we can finish top 6 this season, the fixture opens up for us now to keep getting points, let's see what we can do or if we'll just turn to complete shit again.

I can see that happening lol. Top 6-8 would be a great season from where we were last season.

Watch us or Cov then. Very dynamic teams.
Yeah, i enjoy watching Coventry. More enjoyable than the stuff we dish up, once a team sits back(which us 90% of the time) we are just so boring. Doesn't help our one decent forward is missing.

The Prem is really dull atm, too much focus on deadline ball stuff which just sucks life out of the game. Sad that teams are going to follow Arsenals lead.

Yes. It's not an uncommon term.
Teams played a low block against City and Liverpool in the seasons they scored a million open play goals too.

I think it's good for the league to show there are different ways of doing it. Arsenal's right now is very clean sheet and set piece based. It doesn't lend itself to stacks and stacks of goals being scored.

So far Arsenal have scored 5 goals from open play and have only conceded 3. It won't stay that extreme, but it's been trending that way for a while.
Yes, they did.

Whatever we are doing is effective and teams can't stop it.

Yeah made this comment pre-season to Cruyff. Have been very happy not having Stan Sports. Since last season I've just found the PL very dull. That said, having teams like Sunderland doing so well does change it up a bit.

There you go, can't say I'd ever heard of it.

From a quick scan it is distinct from parking the bus anyway. Parking the bus is protecting a lead, sitting deep, no intent to attack, just 11 men behind the ball, boot the ball away etc. A low block is more about the positioning of the line (i.e. it's the opposite of a high line) where the defenders will sit deep to minimise space and draw the opposition out in order to spring counter attacks.

A crappy round tbh (hurts that the relegation battle has 3 clear drop zone teams) -

Game of the Round -
Manchester City v Bournemouth

Compelling -
Tottenham v Chelsea
Sunderland v Everton (Black Cats get this at a minimum until further notice)

Watchable -
Crystal Palace v Brentford
Liverpool v Aston Villa (maybe compelling in a hate watch sense)

Give them 3pts now -
Nottingham Forest v Manchester United
Burnley v Arsenal

No thanks -
Brighton v Leeds
Fulham v Wolves
West Ham v Newcastle

We are capable of playing attacking football, it won us nothing though.
We play teams that sit deep or mid-block in the EPL to prevent blow outs because European football/relegation is a reward/threat for teams 3rd through to 15th on the table, how are you expected to play exciting counter attacking football when teams park the bus or mid-block and barely create anything.

But we also have had chances in open play this season to batter teams and just haven't. We missed open play chances against Man City, against Forest we missed a few, we missed 2/3 against Newcastle and we should have had more against Fulham and WHU.

Weird how we don't have this sort of issue in the Champions League though where teams back themselves in and play for a result.
Bilbao, Olympiacos and Atletico went head to head with us and they were exciting matches. All those teams had at least 10 shots at goal and in none of those games did we have more corners than our opposition (Bilbao 2 corners v our 2 corners, Olympiacos 5 corners v our 3 corners, Atletico 4 corners v our 3 corners).

The tactic isn't new but the term ‘low block’ wasn't used much until the last two or three years. Commentators talked about teams 'defending deep' or 'sitting back'. The change could be due to the rise in popularity of the Youtube tactical analysts and their fancy graphical boards.

Other than it being first identified with Mourinho in 2010.

I remember it being used back around 2013/2014 and a quick google search shows articles like this from 2012;

I think I started hearing the term on football podcasts around 2018/2019 but its only been the last few years that mainstream media has caught up.

Still, at least they eventually caught up, unlike the AFL media who are still 20 years behind.

I havent watch Bournemouth that closely this season but what do people think of this kid?

Is he another French surprise packet?

He has been really fun to watch, I got him into my FPL team at the recommendation of a mate and he hasn't let me down.

Great pace, loves a goal, fun to watch, which means sadly at this rate he either gets bought for a lot of money in the summer transfer window in the next 2 years or so.

Our season is starting to go backwards already, 1-1-3 in our last 5. Need to beat Sunderland to get some spark back.
Unbeaten at home and have only conceded 2 goals, they haven't beaten anyone of note there but they are in great form and will be confident after the Chelsea win.

Good point that is factually correct! :thumbsu:

Watch as we now lose to them as per usual
