Just noticed, huh :lol Inredible

They have 17,000 members already because they are the incredible Bombers, with incredible players, who are also incredibly good looking, incredibly above all others, incredibly modest supporters, incredibly the club everyone wants to support, incredibly well run, incredibly the team that deserved their premiership, incredibly the team that everyone is jealous of, and usually the team that has just taken the the premiership incredibly has all supporters wanting to sign up early because they believe they are incredibly going to win the next 50 premierships and incredibly believe they will get a finals ticket, just as they are incredibly still not comfortable with their incredible year because they incredibly have to keep convincing themselves how incredible they really are just in case they incredibly do not produce an incredible back to back, to back, to back ....and will be incredibly embarrassed if this incredible thing should not happen. I find it incredible that only 17,000 have signed up already.

Walshy,

You are leaving yourself and your club wide open to criticism again.

While Essendon are an exception in this example, I don't think you can read an awful lot into membership sales at this stage. The Western Bulldogs are a classic example. They had something like 15,000 at the end of 1999 and were only able to increase that to 18,000. St Kilda memberships were well up at a similar stage last season too, but that was primarily through people wanting to get in early to purchase reserved seats.

When a club has sold something like 21,000 reserved seats and then wins the premiership like Essendon have, you would expect that a fair percentage of these people will be renewing their seats and memberships. But it does seem like you are on target for another huge membership figure.

In answer to your question, our membership and seating figures are way up on last year. Early indications are that we are going to crack the 25,000 mark which will easily be a record membership figure for the St Kilda Football Club. Not bad coming off a wooden spoon. (My turn to brag a little because I have had nothing else to brag about

Interesting that McMahons been spruiking to the media on GF tickets allocation for the competing clubs. He wants to reduce the allocation to other non-competing clubs and also drop the number (YAY) for ALF members. Which of course would lead to more tickets for the memberships of the competing clubs, wouldnt that be nice to see. Might even have a GF with a bit of atmosphere and passion for the two competing sides. Instead of a 'social' occasion for the chardonay set (of the rant now).

I can see his point too. With the Dons on target for an excess of 35,000 signed members, with only (if they make it) perhaps 8,000 of those members who will get a GF ticket into the game. How many will then NOT sign up for the following year? With a profit this year of 1.6 mill ($600,000 of which was merchandising which shows that there are many newcomers/bandwagoners) to hold onto that membership must be there aim.

Hope he can get it done, it might be that hes doing it for self interest and i dont blame him for that. Yet all clubs members could be the long term ones who benefit from such a change.

Cheers.

i for one is in full agreement as far as more tickets should be allocated to the 2 competing teams members for the grand final how long can us members put up with the "one day a year NON supporters that because of their standing in the buisness comunity have the god ridden right to get a finals ticket ahead of US members of our clubs who sit in the outer week in week out rain hail or shine.
but try telling that to mr jacko is like banging ones head against a brick wall.
cheers!

I would of thought they would have such a high number because most of them would need a reserved seat and they want to get in early to get the best possible seat.

I would agree that there probably be a twilight clause wrt renewing a seat. With my Richmond reserved seat, I have until early December to sign up again with the same seat otherwise I run the risk of losing it. With competition fierce amongst Essendon supporters, I would suggest the same is true.

sainter i wasnt leaving myself open at all

as i said i had no idea of the figures from other clubs

all i said was it seemed a lot to me and asked if anyone new figures from other teams

i wasnt bragging, just asking so i could get a grasp on the average rate for this time of year

Walshy - I was being sarcastic too. Hence the

I'm not sure about the average rate of memberships at this stage but I do know that St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs had to renew their seats (and therefore memberships if they want to retain their seats) by Decemeber 8. I don't know when your seats had to be renewed by but in many cases this is the reason why memberships are so much higher at this stage of the season. Your premiership and the Malcolm Blight factor are some other reasons for higher than expected sales in our clubs.

I agree with you Grendel. I did read somewhere that the GF tickets given to the clubs are used by them as a revenue source that makes them a lot of money. Apparently they put together package deals for the corparates. So perhaps the clubs will be against a change.

Obviously there has to be a presence of corporate seating at the Grand Final but surely they can limit the number. Not all members from the competing clubs want to go. Around 13000 tickets went to Essendon and 8000 went to Melbourne. If only they could find an extra 5000 - 10000 tickets, most of the demand could be satisfied.

A slight reduction in the amount of tickets going to the following people could be enough to satisfy this demand:-

- AFL members (why should full members be guaranteed finals tickets when competing club members aren't?)
- The 14 clubs not competing
- Radio stations offering them in competitions
- The corprate companies that are not direct sponsors of the AFL, MCG and the competing clubs

i think that would have something to do with essendon not playing in a stadium that only holds 40,000 people and a state that is a two team town

mags if u dont like it **** off, i was just interested to see what the average is at this time of year, if u dont like it dont reply

Grendel,
actually the 600K was mainly *premiership* merchandising

Not that we mind new supporters of course. Sent my renewal in last week along with my sons.

Merry Xmas all and a happy & safe New Year
