As some of you will have noticed, over the past few years we've run a list management game through the summer to soak up the off-season. With the dust of the trade and draft period settling, I'm starting it up again.
Last year eth-dog ran an elaborate auction draft, with players offered up for secret bids. It was fun, but complex, and precludes the organiser from taking part. I still want to play, so it's just a regular draft this year.
The rules are simple:
- The object of the game is to draft the best "game-day" side of 22 players and 3 emergencies, to play off for a flag this coming season.
- The winner will be determined by a 3-2-1 vote between all participants.
- The prize is an immense sense of well-being and the respect of your peers. I might even buy you a pint if I bump into you at a Tanked meet-up.
- Initial draft order will be randomised. In the interests of impartiality I'll lean on one of our friendly moderators to help out here.
- The draft will run in a snake format, which will be familiar to fantasy sports players. Essentially, every second round runs in reverse order, to neutralise the benefit of having a higher pick.
- When it's your turn, you'll have 24 hours to make your pick. If you know you'll be unavailable, drop me a line and we can pause or arrange a ring-in to pick for you. Otherwise, the draft will proceed without you, but you can make your pick(s) as soon as you're back online.
- If you name a player who has already been drafted, too bad. The draft will proceed without you, but as above you can jump in and make your pick as soon as you notice your mistake.
- I'll maintain a list of all picks taken to date, and all players still available, updated at least daily.
- Please maintain an up-to-date team-sheet as your list fills out, so the rest of us can keep an eye on the holes in your team and steal the player you want right before your next pick.
- We'll pause when necessary to allow for families and hangovers, for example over Christmas and New Years.
- At the completion of the draft there will be a short trading window in which you can pay over the odds for that player you just missed.
We are obviously limited by the players currently on AFL lists, but can definitely accommodate 18 coaches, and possibly more if interest is sufficient.
