Disagree, so he spent a few years at the Cats, don't forget they were calling for his head a few years ago. Also, I knew Bomber pretty well in the 80's, he is a Bomber through & through.
He would certainly be better than Laidley or Williams.

The fact he said every champion wants to coach their old side at some stage, even if it's not as great as Hirdy's (might have just said that to keep Cats fans happy as their in a finals race)
If we seemed desperate enough he may be willing to talk yet again, you never know.

Not really, I'll always remember him as a premiership captain, even if it was a few years before my time, but the point is he probably doesn't have a "come home" factor like a Hird would.

Hirdy has never left EFC - His footprints are all over the club, whereas Thompson would be returning home.

Bomber isn't going anywhere. The sooner we accept this the sooner I'll be able to stop dreaming... only to have my heart torn out in 4 weeks...

You return home when you have been absent for a long period of time.
Bomber left EFC 12 years ago.
Hird has never left EFC.

The comments they've put out there - ie, willing to go into trade week without a coach - seem to me like they're indicating they would entertain a guy who couldn't get out of a contract for X months.
