Re: Essendon list changes

I'm gunna come right out there and say it... i love Henry 'Hank' Slattery!

I find it hilarious this thread...

Here's a bloke, 'Hank', who puts his head over the ball, never shirks a contest, takes the most dangerous small every week, has the ball coming down into the back line at a ridiculous rate and does his job without fancy boots, whacking blokes, beating his chest or asking for pay rises. He can do the job on Didak, LeCras and Rioli (please don't riffle through stats to argue against, it gets boring)

My best 22 for 2011 is...

B: Hank Hank Hank
HB: Hank Hank Hank
C: Hank Hank Hank
HF: Hank Hank Hank
F: Hank Hank Hank
R: Hank (standing on another Hanks shoulders wearing the one uniform) Hank Hank

Int: Hank Hank Hank and Hank

He is the first player named every week, because of his 1 per-centers and commitment to the ball. So all the doubters, have a glass of toughen up and start enjoying footy again!

First picked every week. lol

He is ok, dude.

100% correct, its no use trying to convince the nuff nuff sheep who all jump on the bandwagon to slag off a vital player in our BEST 22. As you said he is one of the first picked and you dorks who think he is no good better get used to it. Try supporting the kid who gives his all and plays his role every week on some of the toughest opponents.

Yeah, and this is what I have been saying exactly for ages

You're a masochist, get some help.

You're a masochist, get some help.

"Sadism is pleasure in infliction of pain or humiliation upon another person, while masochism is pleasure in receiving the pain."

Neither definition fits the bill with my admiration of Hank.

If you're suggesting that if a team of 22 Hanks played it would lead to pain and defeat... and that would make me happy, then perhaps you fit the bill of Sadism? Many love trying to humiliate Hank behind the safety of a keyboard.

Glad someone picked up on the pocket joke! But in all seriousness, he is among the first picked every week.

The only difference that anyone should care about between Houli and Hank, is that Hank will be playing for the Dons next year.

Not this again!

He plays on the opposition's 5th or 6th best forward most weeks and even then he's generally shown up. He has no awareness, has no vision, is a poor decision maker, is slow and has the turning circle of a mac truck.

I think Hocking is too slow for AFL football but I'd have him and McVeigh over Hank in the back pocket every day of the week. Says plenty about our back pocket depth when I say I'd have Hocking and McVeigh over Hank.

Slattery is a failed midfielder who plays in the backline, I've never jumped on a bagging bandwagon, I helped lead the parade.

Re: Essendon list changes

I wouldn't dream of commenting on Hank again, as it's apparently repetative when i do it:rolleyes: , however Hank aside, what do people think about Welsh as a small defender?

I think most have McVeigh and Hocking ahead of Hank, although it seems Welsh rarely gets a mention these days as a small defender.

He's always had very good defensive abilities as shown as recently as this year playing as a defensive mid and doing well, and he's obviously played back a fair bit over the years.

I don't think he's in my 22 unless he's tagging or playing back, but could add some real value playing bp......the type of player i'd hate to play on.

Not opposed to it, but it leaves a hole for a tagger, which Hank would likely fill.

Doesn't help your cause much.

Re: Essendon list changes

I reckon there's three spots for NLM, Welsh, McVeigh, Hank as essentially defensive smalls. I'd go with McVeigh, Hank back; Welsh tagging.
Howlett, Myers and Hocking getting genuine midfield roles and adding a bit of a defensive edge there as well.
I don't see Myers or Hocking as real defenders or Howlett as a tagger; despite them all being used in those positions this year.

That'd leave too many slow plodders in the middle. Watson, Welsh, Hocking can not be in the same midfield at any given time. Re Welsh, any decent tagger needs to get his own ball these days and Welsh can do that, problem for him is he has an atrocious disposal. For that reason I wouldn't be playing Welsh in the senior side. Re NLM, the EFC has to move forward and unfortunately this means some players shouldn't be selected.

Hopefully we can add Long to the list next season? Had an injury interrupted year last season, will he be in contention for senior selection at some stage in 2011?

My guess is he's on the list cos he's related to Michael and we didn't want to let another potential "Cyril" get away. Don't get your hopes up.

I have no cause, other than wanting to see our best available combination of 22 players out there.

Wouldn't think Hank is the number 2 ranked tagger on our list though.
