Re: Essendon list changes

While it is disappointing for the players in question I am happy with these decisions.

Changes had to be made to the list and both are what you would call ''list cloggers''. Sorry if that is harsh but you cannot honestly tell me they are anything otherwise.

Re: Essendon list changes

Somewhat surprised with that..
Damn this is seeming like the longest off-season sing 1999 isn't it?

Re: Essendon list changes

Correct, and the decision was made only recently, certainly not in time to accept a trade for Houli.

Would also give T Slattery and Still a chance for a reprieve (just me speculating).

At this stage, it looks like:

Senior List:
OUT: Atkinson, Neagle, Slattery, Still, Laycock, Houli
IN: Howlett, pick 8, pick 31, pick 48, pick 65, pick 82

Rookie List:
OUT: Bock, Marigliani, J Williams, Howlett
RETAINED: Crameri, Silverlock, Quinn
IN: Webster, Meli, pick 9, pick 26

This just made the drafting competition a whole lot harder.

Re: Essendon list changes

Players were probably told what shape they had to come back in. If they don't want to make the sacrifices they shouldn't be on the list.

There has been speculation that Neagle has lost 8kgs for the start of the pre season. Was he supposed to put on more weight ?

My point is that the club should have assessed the list prior to trade week. We will now potentially delist players without any compensation. We could have at least got trade pick for Houli.

Personally I would select players on the basis of how fit and how well they will perform during the season. Not necessarily how fit they are at the start of pre-season.

Feel free to disagree ...

Fair enough. I wouldn't think they would've delisted him if he had lost 8 kilos. So I would assume if this rumour is right, that one is wrong.

I would argue that if a player isn't able to meet certain requirements in the off-season they don't deserve to be given a run during the season. Especially since Neagle hasn't really set the world alight. Also, it must have been a pretty big stuff up for him to be straight out delisted. Directly going against the coaches' orders or something like that.

If its consistent, then fair enough. However if Hurley, Pears or Ryder came back a little heavier, I seriously doubt they would be delisted.

Two separate issues and please dont confuse.

1) Houli trading issue - Should have got pick 46 and moved on.

2) Delisting of Atkinson and Neagle. Lets move on and DONT give up rookie spots for these two players.

Looks like we can now have a proper crack at the ND.
