Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Would love to see Hurley vs Butcher/Trengove if he is played up forward/down back.

Would be brilliant to watch. imo three of the young Key Position players with the biggest potential in the league.

Can't wait to watch Heppell personally, love the way he goes about it.

Hartlett looks darn promising if he can manage to get rid of his injury worries. Kid could be anything really.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

I'm actually fearful of Rodan.

We couldn't lay a hand on him last time.

Love the way he goes about it, though. Might sound fantastical, but I reckon they could have stitched up the Hawks last year if he hadn't gone down.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

I don't know, most media outlets will give the "interstate" teams a token comment or glancing interest. Because alot of Victorian supporters still don't really give a crap about the interstate sides. Why is it most prime time games consist of just Victorian sides for example?

Lets face it, the media in any given state is going to favour the local sides - it sells papers to read about the Pies or Bombers in Vic, not the Power.

An example could be resting Fletcher until the Carlton game for his 350. That logic smacks of disrespect to the interstates sides in itself.

First Ive heard of it, but from a purely football sense I can see the value in that - bloke is 36, still a gun. Save him for the better opponent than risk injury interstate.

Question for Power Supporters

How is your forward press progressing ?

It seemed to be developing nicely in the NAB Cup.

Hartlett - The mid who would top off our midfield.

We actually have a forward press now, which is nice haha.

Developing fairly well I think, worked well against the Eagles which was surprising.

One thing we have been caught up on slightly especially last week, are silly turnovers in the middle leaving an opposition forward or two loose in their forward lines to give them an easy goal. Happened about 4-5 times on the weekend, and it turns out two or three of those were due to players like Chaplin, Carlile and Surjan leaving their men to go on the interchange. Will be focusing alot on that this week I imagine.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Reading the Port board a fair few of them are very confident about knocking us off this weekend.

I guess you can be confident when you've won 7 of the last 8 against an opponent... however when you've only won 9 (with 7 of those in Adelaide) of your last 38 games since the last time you've beaten us (2010) I wouldn't be getting too carried away.

We may of been easybeats in 2005 or 2006 when you'd often beat us up regularly, but under Hird/Thompson we're not going to lie down like those years. Especially not at home.

Happens to us a lot more than we'd like, too.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Not sure how its not valid to be honest, and its fair aswell. Im sure 99% of the SA Population have minimal knowledge on most of the interstate lists especially the younger guys.

Half way through last year no one would have rated Butcher. He plays four games and half the AFL want him on their list. Then he is tipped as a possible Coleman Winner in 2012 by Hutchy.

Just had to say: Hutchy is a ****ing idiot but.

We actually have one which is a positive on last year :thumbsu:

The biggest improvement Port will see in 2012 will be fitness. We actually look AFL standard fit this year. Last year we were probably the least fit side to ever grace the AFL.

Yep, our boys were smokin darts and drinkin tawny port at half time in 2011.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

If you do end up tagging Pearce/ Hartlett (when he is off halfback) who would get the job(s?)

If gray and Trengove play port by 20ish

Just Gray, Essendon by 25ish

Just Trengove, Essendon 20ish

Wanting to see how a non injured Pears lines up on Butcher

and Trengove/Hurley should be a good contest

So you're saying the difference between one (probably underdone) player playing or not playing is worth 7-8 goals to a team?

Yeah OK mate... :thumbsu:

Gray and Trengove are good players in their own right, but we're not talking John Coleman or Peter Hudson here.

Think you will find the following match ups

Hooker VS Butcher
Pears VS Schulz
Fletcher VS Resting Ruck

And Myers will pick up a 4th tall if needed.

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Well he did kick 6 against you guys last year so thats 36 points right there...

Edit: He also had 3 goal assists so that would make it 54 points all up...

Kicks 6 every week then?

So if Gray plays and we keep him and Butcher goaless Port will kick what? 3 goals for the match?

I'll get onto Hirdy now and tell him the game plan.

Also, I seem to remember you losing. So if Gray doesn't play we'll beat you by 70 points?

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Wow so touchy... I was having a bit of a laugh of course he isn't worth 54 points every week.

But he is an important member of our team. And so is Trengove. Especially to our defensive structures which yes could be worth quite a few points. We rate Trengove as much as you guys rate Hurley. Will it me match changing? Who knows, but I'd certainly feel a lot more confident with both of those guys running out to face you guys.

I have noticed that you guys don't seem to be down with a bit of a chuckle every now and then... Gotta loosen up a bit... You guys managed to win last week and all it seemed to be on here was negative. Footys supposed to be fun.

Forgive us, we had to deal with North supporters last week. We're a bit trigger happy.

Trengove stops Hurley from kicking 6+ and brings it down to 2 or so

Theres 24 points so a

Gray doesn't kick his 2/3 and doesn't set up his 1/2 so there is his 18-30 points

but i did averaged just under 5 tips a round last year so don't take it too seriously haha, will be a good viewing regardless

But think that for me talking about margins regardless can barely get the winner right haha

Any thoughts on how (if anyone) will get the tag of Pearce off Halfback

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

Of course, this time we will have Fletch and Dempsey, plus Hooker won't be entirely underdone, Pears wont be dealing with a fracture in his leg, and Hibberd will be playing.

So that's about -15 goals for you there, if not more. You're in danger of getting a negative score.

Oh, and Crameri will be up the other end, making up for his yips against North!

Re: Essendon V Port (7/04) - Ins, Outs & all other pre-match discussion

No Brad, no mccarthy, no reinvented Kane Cornes/Redden, no wingard, no Hartlett, no P stewart

You can't make comparisons of either team from what they were round 23 last year, all the best lads i'm sure it will be close
