I know we are planning on making the finals next year, I know it's part of the 3-0-75 plan, and I know most Richmond supporters are expecting us too.

But what happens if we don't make the finals?

I think the board need to make a decision on Damien Hardwick before Round 1 2012. The media speculation and the public pressure that Dimma would have to endure come contract time throughout the season could put us back in the same position we were in halfway through 2009.

I think we should extend his contract until the end of 2013 at the end of this year, just to avoid that circumstance.

His list isn't complete, he still has to rebuild it, I'm unsure if we can make finals next year, but I'm pretty confident we are on the right track.

What does everyone else think?

I don't think we should be signing up Hardwick before round 1 2012, I'm not suggesting I don't want to keep him but look at the mess with Knights when Essendon signed him up prematurely....we'll know what decision is needed to be made by round 16.

What if we have only won 1 game at the season break? Hardwick would not last, nor should he, that would be 12 wins in over 60 games. He needs a minimum 8 wins next year and some quality scalps to get a 4th year or we must go after someone more experienced.

Just hope we are not a year too late if it comes to this.

My 5 Expectations for 2012
1. An improved defence due to players returning from injury- The return of Astbury, Moore and Grimes should help Rance, Newman, Helbig, Batchelor, Conca, Houli, Delidio and Grigg.
2. More inside 50's due to signing a decent RUCKMAN
3. Natural improvement from the 22 and unders as Hardwick gets games into them - Astbury (20) Batchelor (19) Browne (21) Conca (18) Cotchin (21) Connors (22) Dea (19) Edwards (22) Farmer (22) Griffiths (19) Grimes (20) Helbig (19) Martin (20) Post (21) Rance (21) Riewoldt (22) and Vickery (21).
4. A physicially stronger side so players like Conca won't have to play on the Milne and Chapmans of this world.
5. A finish somewhere between 9th and 12th.

Finish 6th to 10th
Astbury, Grimes and Rance to play the majortiy of the games and become a strong defencive unit.
Have a new Ruckman no ifs buts or maybes we MUST have a new ruckman.
Griffiths to start getting involved in games.
More improvement from Rance, Cotchin, Martin, Conca, Batchelor, Grimes, Astbury, Riewoldt and Vickery and the like of Dea, Helbig and Post take the step up into our best 22.

What I expect:
1. O'Meara to be on our list after trade week - in exchange for comp pick and Morton or Tuck if they still want him even if he's old. Don't start saying that our comp pick is untouchable. O'Meara is better than that comp pick and Morton combined.
2. Hicks GONE. Westhoff GONE. Hislop GONE. Thursfield GONE. Gourdis GONE. Post GONE.
3. Heslin to dominate like Martin in his first year.
4. Finals. Just give us something to believe in. Prove to supporters that you stick to your word about 3-0-75. Then that will go from 3 failed promises to 1 promise accomplished, 2 to go.

jeez i just typed up a pagelong rant but luckily for everyone I timed out and I have to synthesise:

expectations:
-continue youth based development, plently of losses but adjust towards more competitive, perhaps 1 or 2 less juniors per game.
hope to see improve in:
-clearances and 1% - would like to see blokes learn to play at 100% not go through the motions for a few years until we are ready
-accuracy like we showed earlier we are capable of
-a bit of tactics from the coach just to show he can do it

Re dropping the coach - pull your heads in! ticking some boxes - recruiting and young player games. Need to get quality games next - as opposed to being pantsed

Good post. I also really want O'Meara on our list. Only thing I don't agree with you on is Post. Still think we need to hold onto him for another year.

Think it is more of a goal/ambition than a promise. If some supporters have taken Benny's/March's ambitions as promises no wonder they have been left disappointed.

Gee a bit early isn't it?

A gameplan that the players can understand/execute might be a good place to start, and dont re-sign the coach until at least this time next year, make him earn it:thumbsu:

Finals.

Too often do Richmond fans, myself included, say we're are two years off finals. Every year its the same. Next year, needs to be different - we need to actually make the top 8.

By mid-next year we will have a handful of players to have played 100+ games
- Deledio
- Newman
- Foley
- Edwards
- Jackson (shudder)
- White (it's true!)
- Moore (touch wood)
- Riewoldt
- McGuane

And a raft of players who will be in the 50-100 game bracket
- Cotchin
- Rance
- King (28 y.o)
- Nahas (25 y.o)
- Martin
- Grigg
- Vickery
- Houli
- Morton(25 y.o)

Sure we will still have guys like Grimes, Conca, Helbig and Batchelor running around, but by the end of the season all these blokes should have 30-40 games under their belts aswell.

We will have a much better spread of experience going into next year and by round 12 we should have up to 6 or 7 100 game players in our side, plus another half a dozen who will be in the 60-80 game bracket.

Add to this with the fact that some our youngsters in Batchelor, Conca and Grimes have already showed experience beyond their years, and we should really be making the 8. And then there are others like Griffiths, Astbury and Derickx who talls who haven't really come on this years as much as we expected them too - more upside.

To have a side that consistently puts in an effort.

Shame the players can not be put on a performance based contract.

Here's my predictions for 2012:

Gain Zac Clarke and lose pick 2 and Thursfield
Gain Hamish McIntosh and lose pick 3 and Kelvin Moore
Gain gun midfielder with pick 1
Martin, Foley, Cotchin, Conca all fitter
Post a full time defender
With the addition of 2 ruckman, 1 midfielder and fitness to our 4 midfielders above, expect a few more wins next year.
I guess about 10 wins and 10th position.

List changes:
Out:
Thursfield(traded)
Moore(traded)
Miller(delisted)
Hislop(delisted)
Graham(delisted)
Farmer(delisted)
White(delisted)
Tuck(delisted)
Taylor(delisted)
Hicks(delisted-rookie)

In:
Clarke
McIntosh
Pick 1(young gun mid)
Rollover Pick from 2010(young ruck)
Pick 4(young small forward)
Pick 5(young mid)
Pick 6(young key position)
PSD Jarred Moore

Just so i wont be accused of having high expectations, based on our game plan and development 13th to 17th with 5 to six wins

To go to a game against a top 6 team and for the result not to be decided in the first 10 minutes ala Carlton,Pies,Dogs and Geelong.
Want to see effort from the opening bounce and for the team to respond when the opposition get a run on.
Want to see us win 8-10 games with a win against Blues in round 1.

We won't be playing the Blues round 1 next year.

im not too sure we can make finals. especially if we have a tricky fixture.

I wana see a more defensive aspect to our game plan. which apparently is ment to be implemented next year anyway.

continued improvement of our midfeild. sometimes our midfield is really over hyped and we get creamed.

some games in big X and hopefully a new ruck who came in the trade period.

riewoldt, griff, vicks, rance, post, astbury and grimes continue to develop and improve :thumbsu:

make a decision on king and nahas, both started this year well but have been quiet ever since.

I seriously can't see us making finals next year.... The thing is that while we all go on about the 'natural progression of our youngsters' and 'another preseason under their belts' etc etc, the cold hard facts are that it is the same story for plenty of other clubs......

We're not the only club who is playing kids and will show improvement.... We're not the only club who will benefit from another solid preseason.. It's the same for everyone..

I'm very nervous about the upcoming trade week/draft because an awful lot hinges on it (as I'm sure we're all aware).... We stuff this up and all of a sudden we are a LONG way behind the pack....

lol agreed. don't even know who will be in a richmond jumper in 2012.

This is some straight out fantasy shit.

You EXPECT O'meara for a fringe player and the comp pick? they want best 22 players. Foley or someone of that standard most likely and even that might not even get it done.

You EXPECT Heslin, who hadn't even kicked a AFL football until last year to make an impact equal to Martin in his first year? Martin was one of the best first year players in recent memory and you're EXPECTING that of an irish recruit?

I think these are thing you want or dream of....but do you really expect them?
