Retiring Ex Hawks premiership and Bulldogs player Taylor "Doc" Duryea to hang up the boots at seasons end

TWO-TIME premiership player Taylor Duryea has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

Duryea won flags at Hawthorn in 2014 and 2015 and played 118 games for the Hawks before moving to the Western Bulldogs at the end of 2018.

He's since played another 101 games for the Dogs, including just five this season and only one since round 11.

A 219-game career is a remarkable achievement for a player first taken at pick 69 in the 2009 draft.

"I am obviously proud of the team success I've been able to experience at both AFL and VFL level, but I think it's enduring adversity and overcoming challenges that have made my career so fulfilling," Duryea said.

"I'm thankful to both Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs for believing in me. I hope I've been able to positively impact both clubs who placed faith and trust in me.

Thanks Doc, and all the best

Such a great career for someone apparently not blessed with all the talents needed to play AFL, eg size, skill, etc.

Massive credit to him.

Absolutely fearless player who never didnt give 100%. Was very sad when he left but he was always 20th to 24th best for us and Bevo offered him a starting spot. Had a great career.

If Harry Cunningham gets a brownlow vote, Duryea will take the title of most games without a Brownlow vote.

Not that he was a bad player. Gave it his all

As this thread shows, Doc is a classic example of a great team man who is beloved by his teammates and supporters, but barely noticed by the casual observer.

Will always be a Dogs legend for his efforts vs Charlie Cameron late in the 2021 final in Brisbane.

Without him, we probably miss a GF.

Well played Doc, you'll be long remembered.

Couldn't kick like Guerra or Suckling,
Wasn't as tough as Campbell Brown,
Not as good defensively as Stratton,
Couldn't run like Birch, or impact on the contest as Burgoyne

...but was an able replacement for each and every one of them.

Got the absolute most out of himself and played virtually every game during one of the most successful eras in the history of the AFL and consistently a valuable contributor. (Not just for the haircuts!)

Then when the time came to move on, there was no tantrums - no fuss - he simply moved on to his next challenge and gave them the same consistent, dedicated service 100 times more.

Well done Doc.

Left nothing on the table. Great career. Top Contributor at 2 clubs.

His kids, if they can play, will be eligible for both clubs under the FS too. (if the rule survives 17 more years)
