Ex-players down at training...

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Just read an article over on the AFL site which has information about discarded players training with other clubs.

While we all knew about Poyas training with us, it also seems that Brad Flower has properly started pre-season training with us, and could well be picked up in the pre-season draft, or could be added to the rookie list. Being the son of Demon legend Robbie Flower, he could be a player of real talent in the future.

Also, Adelaide discard Michael Handby is training with us, but I don't know much about him. I'll try and find out more.

The biggest problem I have with Brad Flower is that he's compared to his father, when he's not his father. As far as I know he's extremely short, and has only shown anything at VFL 2nd's leevel (not exactly high standard). It might be better to just let him play for Sandy 1's next year to see if he's upto standard before we consider drafting him. Other clubs obviously aren't interested, as he was passed over last year in the draft.

I hear that there is an exciting F/S prospect for next years draft, a WA player who is former Demon Alan Johnson's son. He sounds a real KP prospect.

Maybe...but it was a very deep draft last year.

I wasn't comparing him, I was pointing out that he "could" be a player of real talent "in the future!".

However, his last name is Flower after all, so that will linger on him until he makes his own name for himself outside of his father.

Didn't know about Alan Johnson's son, got any information on it mate?

He was still only 17 too (I believe he was quite young in that draft?)

Also, he did play a few games for the Sandy ones and played very well. Yes, he is only lean and stuff, but so are many other midfielders who make it.

And anyway, he will probably be added to the rookie list for the season. I doubt he would play seniors this year anyway.

Handby was drafted by the Crows, and along with Angwin was "the next big thing", as far as i know didnt trouble the selectors too much and played out his days with Glenelg (spooners again). Having said that is a good size and build.

Thanks for that. Doesn't sound too bad, and will come cheaply if he impresses during pre-season training.

Headed down to training today, we have FIVE invitees down there. They are:

Brad Flower
Michael Handby (Adelaide)
Ezra Poyas (Richmond)
Danny O'Brien (Geelong)
Chad Davis (St Kilda)

More will go down for the two weeks after the draft.

Pretty hard to pick out who was who actually cos most of them wore white caps.

I'm not sure.

- O'Brien is pretty small I think
- Handby is an inbetween height
- Flower is pretty small
- Davis - well did he do much at the Saints?
- Poyas - won a Liston Trophy in the VFL in 2001 maybe hes the best of them.

They are training at our club for one reason or another. Bottom line is their clubs didnt want them.
