It's risky for Hamilton to move. Mercedes have a proven track record over much of the past decade. Ferrari have a record for being inconsistent, and for being liable to make strategic errors.

Still, a lot of drivers want to drive for Ferrari. They're the oldest, most glamourous team in motorsport. Perhaps it's more to do with the allure of that reputation, rather than an expectation of winning.

It's been announced on sky sports definitely happening Sainz out Hamilton in

One Italian journo seems to think it has a high likely hood of happening and said he wouldn't be surprised if the contract is already signed.

As some on r/forumla1 have stated, the timing is fishy and could very well be a directive of FOM to take away the spotlight from the Andretti rejection.

The Andretti stuff is ridiculous. I can understand teams wanting to protect their interests, but they have to realise this damages the sport as a whole.

I think Albon gets it. If Lando hadn't have signed this new deal they would have had a real big crack at him.
I also wonder if this puts Sainz in the conversation for the potentially available Red Bull #2 seat. He has a history there, and has been a teammate of Max before. He has been okay at Ferrari, been screwed a bit by reliability and general ineptness on the pit wall at times.

Might not just be a Daniel vs Yuki battle.

It's the racing gods punishing Andretti. He doesn't deserve a team, but not for the reasons the pretentious F1 clique are denying him.

Absolutely squibbed it in his season as a driver. He didn't have the courage and will to carry on despite a tough first season. If he swallowed he pride, carried on with Mclare with the new cars in 94, or moved to a team like Tyrell or Footwork, and proved he got to grips with an F1 car, he'd have had another chance with a top team, and imo, a better option than huys like Berger, Alesi, Irvine. etc.

For at least 5 years prior, there was talk about him going to F1, and it was too much for him. He now wants to get on the gravy train of F1. He's tried harder now to own a team than he did as a driver. **** off Kenny Rogers, you selfish campaigner.

I personally can't wait to see what comes out of Hamilton's whining combined with Ferrari's complete ineptitude in managing races.

I'd say Albon to Mercedes. Sainz to Audi. Don't know who replaces Albon though

Hamilton going to Ferrari is another squib move. The cushiest life in motorsport anyone's ever had and after a couple of years not in the best car, is going to go to a rival team. Let's hope he goes there with a hattrick of seasons without a win.
Squib move?

All time great driver wants to put himself in the best seat possible, as all drivers do.

Would think Sainz is front runner for the Red Bull seat now. Mercedes is an interesting seat and he may want to try and get that instead. Red Bull is the better car but you’re always going to be the second driver. At Mercedes I think you’d start closer to level footing and would only be a strong start away from being the number one driver or at least equals.

Is he the first driver to drive for Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren?

I want to say I am blindsided by this move but you could argue this was coming. Merc simply made the wrong choice with their no sidepods two seasons ago and are still paying the price. It was a gamble that did not pay off.

And it's Ferrari. The oldest and most prestigious F1 team all drivers aspire to drive for.

I wonder if Vettel and Alonso were labelled squibs for moving to Ferrari.

I don't really understand this from Ferrari.

Sainz is a good driver. One who can win races with the right car.

Hamilton is not an upgrade..and even if he was, it's not going to be the difference between them winning and losing.

I'm not sure what universe we're living in when a seven time WDC who was clearly the best of the rest last year and dragged a shitbox to six podiums is not considered an 'upgrade' on someone who only won their first F1 race two years ago when their teammate was winning plenty and the car was considered competitive.

"But he'll be 40 when he joins Ferrari!" Fernando Alonso is competing for race wins and podiums at 42. Nowadays age matters less as long as you have the right machinery.

Hamilton's got a proven record. Sainz is alright, a decent driver, but not exceptional, and not looking likely to be exceptional.

He would be thanks to Mercedes not being a manufacturer for 55 years

Fangio and Schumacher drove for Mercedes and Ferrari (Fangio is the only driver to win titles for both manufacturers)

Lauda is the only driver to win titles for Ferrari and McLaren

Prost, Raikkonen, Alonso and Berger have all won races for McLaren and Ferrari
