The number one target should be Gibbs. He is still very young & his best footy to come. His foot skills are brilliant. Playing him off half back is his go rather than in the midfield. He has the perfect attributes to be that quaterback/Hodge type of player. He can take all the kick outs & he also has a good defensive side to his game.
Quarterback? Maybe. Hodge? Please. They're not even remotely similar.

After Seedsman, Grundy, Dwyer and Josh Thomas make AA in 2014...

Along with Elliott and Fasolo finishing Top 3 in the Coleman...

Jack Frost playing 25 Senior games next year...

And Ben Sinclair winning the Norm Smith...

I think we will be using that extra money in our cap to keep all of them in Black and White.

The good thing is we can make a play for just about any FA we like with the cap space we have at the moment. I'm not saying we pay overs for anyone unless it's the final piece of the puzzle to make us win a flag. But by going hard for players it makes their clubs match our offer and use up cap space they mightn't of wanted or banked on using. It could be a win win for us.

I can see MM matching any offer we make to players just out of spite.

I don't see a problem here.;)

I was more referring to the manner in which Hodge plays when he does go down back. Gibbs is capable of controlling the play down back. He is strong defensively, good overhead, reads the play well and of course can use the ball very well. All these things Hodge excells at & no reason Gibbs cannot. Hodge is the better player as he is a leader and can be a fantatsic midfielder, where Gibbs is not. This is why Gibbs is best staying down back & making the most of his strengths.

For every cent we spend on a FA is one less cent we have to keep one of our own, remember you have to pay overs and give longer contracts to entice FAs, I'm pretty happy with our list ATM, we don't need to go whoring our cap IMO.

With Thomas Shaw and Jolly going earlier than expected you would think we have enough cap room to get a good FA plus keep everyone we want to keep

I don't see any great holes in our list to warrant paying overs for anyone, we do need a tallish utility with good foot skills to play HB but we should fill that need during the draft, IMO we have the list to win a flag and I'd prefer we concentrated on keeping the list together.

You are very optimistic.

We weren't willing to pay overs for Daisy, and he's probably the type we're lacking right now, why would we pay overs for someone else?

I was referring to your view that we have a premiership list. I am happy that we did not match Carlton's offer to Daisy. We now have a young team and I think it is unlikely that we will offer a serious challenge. I hope like hell I am wrong. I am not that excited about White, Karnezis and Armstrong but if we can get more out of them than last year's mature recruits I will be satisfied. I do hope we can pick up a big free agent, but of course it will need to suit our purpose. I guess we will have plenty of time to discuss it!

I'm not saying we have the list to win the flag next year, although I reckon we're a sneaky chance if things go our way, we'll be primed come 2015 IMO.

I think we've used FA perfectly to date, we've used it to plug holes while we're developing our own players, I don't like the idea of spending 800k on a player worth 500k, and thats the overs you have to pay to entice a FA to come to your club.

Our club can't go banging on about loyalty and selfishness if it decides to spend massive overs on FAs IMO, because if they do they can't expect not to lose players to other clubs, I'd much prefer to look after our own considering we have a pretty balanced list ATM.
