Biggest Loser is exploitative and full of shit.
I realise this when they started to flog off all their health clubs and diets.

Obesity is a problem but i don't know if fat shaming is the right way to go about it.
Maybe we could put more warnings on foods similar to plain package smokes.

I'm about 6 foot and last i checked about 2 weeks ago i was 98kg
I've recently realized that at 26 while i'm not obese i would like to get into better shape and healthy.
Goal for now is to drop down to 88kg as a start.
So I've cut out a lot of things from my diet and i'm counting my calories.
Hopefully since kicking my nearly daily coca-cola habit i will see some improvements in my physique.
Trying to turn some of this fat into muscle and become leaner and healthier for myself and my kids.

The supermarkets promote a lot of unhealthy eating as well.
I was looking through a coles & woolworths catalog and nearly every item in there on special is highly proccessed junk foods.
Look on the ends at any supermarket and you will see $2 big bottles of coke and $2 Doritos & chocolate blocks.

I worry about my younger brother, he suffers from a mental illness which i think impairs him from making smart food choices.
He is very tall but weighs 140kg+ and he eats like shit and also smokes.
I was with him earlier and he ate from the local greek takeaway shop with bacon, beef, cheese, egg on a white roll.
It looked very unhealthy.

People make these excuses all the time - I for one am sick of hearing them.

Instead of going down the pub and consuming calorie-laden food and beer, do something else with the time that involves exercise (a bike ride, gym workout, jogging) and then enjoy a healthy meal. There are heaps of healthy options for eating out (low fat 6 inch Subway subs such as chicken or turkey with salad on multigrain bread, Asian food such as chicken and vegetable stir-fry) if you don't want to cook at home.

If you have kids, instead of wasting time taking them to any number of fast food outlets where everyone sits and eats unhealthy food, for an outing get some healthy Subway and pack some fresh fruit and go on an excursion such as a family walk or bike ride along the river, the beach or park.

At home, drink skim milk and eat diet yogurt, enjoy porridge for breakfast with fresh fruit, add salad to your meals. Drink mainly water, not soft drink and not alcohol. Get incidental exercise, such as walking to the shops or cycling to run an errand. Plan your treat meals, such as an ice-cream on a Friday (but only on a Friday) if you like ice-cream. It isn't hard.

Subway really isn't all that healthy.
All that bread and processed meats...

He is in his office all day, I wish we got to stop working at lunch.
Yeah, still not 75 hours, but that's not my point.

My point is that using examples of elite athletes and exaggerated office hours is not the way to get obese people to make lifestyle changes...it just gives them more excuses. "Oh, I don't possibly have the time or ability to train for a triathalon, so what's the point?" and they continue on eating themselves to death. They need to make specific, measurable, attainable goals. Once they start to see results they'll be more motivated.

Giving them an unrealistic goal to achieve is setting them up for failure.

If you're working ridiculous hours where you've got hardly any time to relax and get away from your job you're living a life just as unhealthy.

Can understand doing it a few years to set yourself up but it's just absurd long-term.

You'll either get to the middle of your life wondering where the hell has my enjoyment been or you'll end up having a heart attack, or getting some other health issue.

Might sound pretty ridiculous for a young person like me to say this but I saw what work did to my old man first hand and currently have two family friends killing themselves running a business and now beginning to break down at a pretty young age.

No that is bad for your health. Most I've done us 67 across 6 days and I couldn't keep that up

Small business owners, farmers...heaps and heaps of people do these type of hours and survive.

Not saying that it's ideal, but it happens regularly.

People who complain that they don't have the time, really need to look at their time management skills and question their commitment.

Those workers most likely wouldn't face a one and a half to two hour trip to and from work nightly though which creates great stress.

I'd hazard a guess that a large number of office workers end up with health problems pretty early from working such long hours

Yeah, I'm not sure that the stress of commuting can really measure up against having your own money and future on the line constantly.

Plenty of people work hours like that and still face those troubles.

My old man was travelling a ton, working long hours and still faced doubts constantly over his future.

Almost ended up in a box after having a severe heart attack.

Plenty of people live comfortably on far less stressful jobs.

It's still time away from your family though, no matter what you're doing that's gonna cause issues.

No doubt, but this takes the conversation on a whole new tangent, with people being obsessed with going into debt to own that 'dream home' on some shithole 600sqm and in some shithole new suburb that necessitates them undertaking such long commutes to work.

Again, it's a life choice.

People gonna people.
