My mate and I just split a 6 pack of Zywiec Porter. $20 from Dan Murphy.... 9.5%, 2.5 standard drinks per bottle! It packs a punch, that's for sure. We had 3 each, and understandably we felt like we had a 6 pack of beer each. Taste wise... pretty bad. Alcohol is way too over-powering. If you want to appreciate the beer, don't get it. However, if you want to get drunk...

Stuff I have enjoyed lately:
- Holgate Hopinator Double IPA
- William's Pale Ale
- Wells Banana Bread Beer
:thumbsu:

Boatrocker alpha queen is one of favourite reasonably recent beers, although it could be more hoppy.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is one of my all time favourites.

Love belgians...westmalle probably my favourite. Canadians do Belgian styles as good as anyone - unibroue la fin du monde, trois pistoles, maudite, blanche de chambly :thumbsu:

As far as darks go, you can't go past Emersons Dunkelweiss. Their pilsner is also kick ass.

UK Beers: innis & gunn oak aged and old speckled hen are my two favourites.

Epic pale ale - probably my favourite pale all of all time but at $13 a bottle its hardly an everyday (or even month!) beer.

NZ beer isn't it? Young kiwi bloke brewing it, only a young player. Met him at beer and wine expo in Melbourne and tried his beers. Pretty good actually. Cost is a turn off.

Absolutely. These guys price themselves out of every being able to turn over enough stock to make a profit. At $8 for a 500ml, I'd buy it regularly and i know a few other people who would too. Anything above $10 for a 500 ml is really getting quite steep, particularly for a new brewery making a standard APA. I know hops can be pricey, but seriously!

Um lol.

Oettinger is bollocks.

Yes.... but...

sometimes exceptions must be made :thumbsu:

I always kept a 6 pack in my cupboard when living in Europe... in the winter if it was too cold to go out and buy some beer, we would stick it in the snow... 10 mins later and instant party! :D

maybe I have an emotional attachment.

Just had a stubbie of Three Kings Dry Lager, easy to drink with a nice fruity aftertaste. Can see myself having a session on this stuff during the festive season

There's a reason you can't find many beers under $35 a case.

Oettinger would be shit value at $5 a case.

To be honest, it's not much worse than a lot of more expensive Euro lagers (ie. Heineken, Becks, Carlsberg). On beeradvocate.com (which I consider a fairly reliable beer rating website - full of beer-snobs like you, too), they all average a score of C, except for Carlsberg which is a C+. When you consider that all these other beers go for around $45 a carton and Oettinger is only $30, I think he/she was quite justified in claiming it to be a good value beer.

I wouldn't be caught dead buying Tooheys Extra Dry, Hahn Super Dry, West End Draught, VB, etc. I'd happily take Oettinger over these beers, as I prefer the flavour of German lager over Aussie pub lagers. It's basically just a German equivalent of our own pub beers - a cheap beer for the masses. It doesn't make it a great beer by any means, but it serves it's purpose to those who buy it. No one is forcing you to drink it, and some poeple actually enjoy it. Not everyone can afford $80 cartons of boutique ale. Get off your high horse, it's only beer.

I don't drink those beers you mentioned, nor have I ever spent more than $50 for a slab. So stop pretending you know me. I don't rate Oettinger. Get over it.

Oettinger is pretty terrible but on par with becks/carlsberg and co (even the euro brewed ones...dont even get me started on Australian brewed "imports") On occasion you can get coopers pale for under $40...a much better option :thumbsu:

My local has added Little Creatures Bright Ale to their taps. Ales are very much a winter thing for me, but it's very light and easy to drink. I think I'll be indulging in quite a few of these before summer is over.

Bump.

Recently tried Lowenbrau, although I reckon there's a pretty good chance it's been mentioned somewhere. Very refreshing, you've gotta appreciate the Germans...for some things

Corona = overrated and overpriced. For a beer it has a distinctly girly aura too.
