The 2010 prelim had a more celebratory feeling compared to the nervous tension of the 2019 prelim. The performances weren't much different, but the expectation certainly was and no doubt that played a big part in the mood of the crowd. In 2010 I was confident after we defeated the saints whereas 2019 every finals game was a bonus and I couldn't believe what was unfolding.

The only reason that for me 2010 prelim trumps the 2018 prelim is that in 2010 at half time I had no doubt we would win. That comfortable feeling that I had in that game is a feeling I don't think I've ever had watching a final before - the feeling of calm

It wasn't until roughly 10 mins into the 4th quarter last year that I knew we had beaten Richmond. Don't get me wrong though the 18 prelim is one of my all time favourite Collingwood games

2011 Prelim. Was watching the first quarter at a mates place having a few drinks and trying to work out if we were going out that night or not (had my priorities all wrong back then) and I remember thinking how flat we looked and how things weren't going our way. Convinced we were going to lose, my mate and I caught a taxi to Perseverance on Brunswick St and arrived at the start of the last quarter. That 30 minutes was just a roller coaster of emotions, the atmosphere in the pub was electric and when the siren went the whole place erupted. Cant say I remember too much else from that night..

I watched the 1990 grand final last night for the first time and it was quite special. I hope the club sit the boys down during the finals series and have them watch the replay to inspire them. 2010 was obviously very special but that 1990 win is just one of the best things you can watch as a Magpies supporter. Every Collingwood figure in the house was just overcome with relief and sheer delight - Tony Shaw, Leigh Matthews, Bob Rose, Darren Millane, the supporters - everybody. Truly magnificent to watch even 29 years on.

What a beautiful post.
I remember the day/night very well and like you, my family just hugged quietly on the top of the Western (now Ponsford) Stand; we were too exhausted and overcome to do much else.
Thanks for posting.
Thanks apples i suspect there were countless stories that paralelled ours, such a long time wandering in the wilderness - how blissful was it walki

I have it on hard drive and several copies on thumb drives - don't want to take a chance on losing those memories forever. Thinking back to the images that day - both at the ground and on the replay the most moving for me was how it affected Bobby Rose he was obviously having a hard time keeping his sh1t together and not weeping with joy.

One of my favourite finals games was the semi-final in 1978 v Carlton. It was one of the rare times in the 70's we beat Carlton in a final. My clear memory of the game was Fabulous Phil Carman whacking Vinnie Cattogio just after Cattogio disposed of the ball. We were sitting in the top deck of the old Southern Stand, next to a bay of Carlton members. The Blues fans went ballistic when Cattogio went out like a light. We were laughing and giving them the finger -which only made the Blues fans even more feral. Somehow Carman escaped at the tribunal -if only he had the same fortune a year earlier.

Yep Phil never learned and never apologized for his stupidity the year before.

There is a lesson every Pies player has learnt over the history of the club - NEVER give the maggots an excuse.

Yes, watching Pants throw the ball into the air, that was a magical moment.
The most significant, finals acts, that I have seen were Shaws’ smother and then Daisys’ tackle but as I was born in Oct. 58, finally seeing us win a GF after all those years of heartbreak has to top everything. My wife had to light my cities for me until 3/4 time as I was shaking too much.

Portents, omens, harbingers.

1 - Librarian 2010.
2 - Licuria 40 touches vs Port 2002.
3 - Daicos right pocket 1990.
4 - Leigh Brown off break 2010.
5 - Didak left forward flank set shot 2003.

1990 and 2010 Premierships.
2010 Preliminary Final 1st half was something else. My first and so far last final live. Crowd was so loud!
2018 Preliminary. High fiving mates and brother as Cox marked everything, DeGoey just DeGoeyed and seeing everyone click. Was amazing.
Comical Lowlight- That guy who pronounced Scott Pendlebury's name not quite properly for the NSM.
