FFC Draft Day Thread 2009

Hi guys

I've watched alot of Coyley, Fyfe and Weedon for the Tigs at Colts level and I have to say I was a tad surprised by West Coast's decison to take Weedon over Coyler. But I digress.

In regards to Fyfe he is very similar to someone like a Stevie J, has an innate ability to make the impossible, possible.

He plays alot taller than he his, even though he's no midget at 189-190cm, has a great set of hands, and I mean fantastic, with a leap to match.

Unlike Stevie who I havent seen play extended periods in the middle Fyfe has top shelf endurance.

But the biggest selling point for me is his set shot technique, so often you see kids with great hands, leap and the rest but then they cant finish.

Fyfe's set shot is textbook, conversion rate is very high.

Standout performer in the Colts GF with 6 goals. So he knows what he's doing in front of the sticks. Genuine match turning ability.

Thanks for doing that buddy, made it much easier for me to follow on my mobile. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

The players still available from my list are;

Ah Chee, Archer, Carey, Dare, Donaldson, Geary, Gordon, Grimes, Hardingham, Hartigan, Hayward, Hill, Hooper, Hutchings, Kickett, Luff, McAdam, McCauley, McNeil, Panos, M Taylor, Wanganeen.

So some good players left for the rookie list.

Am I right in thinking GC have the first 5 picks?

If so then

Yeah, Gold Coast have the first 5 picks in the rookie draft. But they have committed to taking primarily mature aged players (20-23 year olds, not former AFL players) because they already have a heap of 17 year olds. Guys like McCauley, Hardingham, Silvagni and Hill could come into the picture for them...

Just glad we didn't take TDL at 20 so I'm happy.

Would have loved to draft Black but oh well.

Mora was interviewed on 882 and spoke quite well.

Just happy we didnt take TDL, period.

I would of loved to have rookied him or last pick - though reading the Huns profile - happy to have him another skilled left footer.

Who the hell are Crichton and Robertson?

Geez a heap are sliding... but then it was the bigfooty expects who's drafts I'm going off.

Crito as the boys and i called him back home (moved to melbs recently) Very good player.. from the Apple Isle, You guys should be stocked about getting this kid.. Very good stuff from freo :thumbsu:

Yeah, the blokes's a crab. He's the crabbiest crab amonst crabs.

That's why Paul Roos got him

Thankyou. Next.

Are you saying Paul Roos has a 100% strike rate in terms of draft pick?

Just look at his efforts with Brabazon another former W.A pick.

TDL is a soft, front-running cherry picker who plays one way and has feathers on his back.

Some Live Comments from Matt Burgan during the draft:

Post Morabito pick:
Matt Burgan: Fremantle went with the best Western Australian in the draft. No surprise there.

Post Fyfe pick:
That's two WA boys.
Fyfe no surprise.

Post Houghton pick:
Had no comment

Post Crichton/Roberton picks:
Matt Burgan: Crichton and Roberton are good picks for Fre at 48 and 49 - most recruiters thought they were top 45 picks at worst. Dea, Shaw and Stratton were always around the mid 40s (Stratton was also strongly linked to Fremantle at 48, 49 and 52)
Matt Burgan: Three Tassie boys went then - Davies (43), Harwood (57) and Crichton (48). Many thought the order would be Crichton, Harwood and then Davies - well done Apple Isle

Post Bollenhagen pick:
Matt Burgan: Bollenhagen has excellent skills - rated highly by recruiters.
Interestingly, Fremantle overlooked Dennis-Lane. Syd got him.

*One could presume with the predraft talk by Bond "we will take 5 youngsters and possibly 1 more mature recruit in the draft". Bond could of been referring to Stratton. I think Hawthorn trumped us. Though i also heard whispers that Bollenhagen was rated by Hawks, so we trumped them back so to speak.

With Walters, Ballas, Mayne and DJ all playing forward roles and then of course Pav where does Houghton fit?

http://www.contestedfooty.com/2009/10/joel-houghton-2009-afl-draft-prospect.html

Joel Houghton is a good over-head mark and likes to play on. He doesn't kick with his left very much which makes me wonder if he can kick on his left. Houghton can play in the ruck a little bit and is passable in that position, but you wouldn't want him to play their the whole game.

Joel Houghton is being talked about as a round 3 selection in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft. I could see him going higher because of the lack of good key position players in this draft. I could see him going lower because of his care factor and low-ish weight.

I know you cant believe everything you read but 'care factor' ?
