The defending is much more realistic in my opinion. In previous Fifa games it was so easy to simply hold the standing tackle button, chase your opponent and steal the ball.

Totally agree. It is easy to get embarrassed while defending but once you start to play it more, and longer games you will be able to pick it up I reckon. It is still possible to nail good tackles with good positioning and timing rather than holding down a button.

Longer halves will make the whole thing a billion times better, because you'll be able to take your time on the ball instead of rushing to make something happen.

Argh, both PES and FIFA are pretty good this year. I think I'll choose on the base of which one has the better manager mode. Any ideas as who'll have it?

The way I'm reading this thread it sounds like the counter-attack is going to be the best way to cut teams up. Just hold off and soak up the pressure then win the ball and get it to your quick wide players.

I haven't played it yet though.

Getting a bit better at defending, I don't really like it to be honest but yeah patience is the key. Except in the box, I am awful. The AI has become 10 times more skillful now, awesome quick feet in the box, the passing is too good every team seems to play like Barca. I can't pressure them as well with tactical defending in the box, they just seem to have too much room.

Anyone feel the AI are much faster now, in regards to running and ball movement? So many trick moves being done to me, on professional as well. Getting a bit ridiculous, some is OK but it's being done all the time. Getting beaten to the ball by slower players as well. Anyway despite my complaining I still do like it, but yeah as mentioned the collision system or whatever it is called is horrible.

That's pretty much the biggest problem for me, and that is that the CPU AI is too perfect. They rarely, if ever, miss passes, they seem a step ahead when they're on the ball, and they're far too difficukt to contain when running. Maybe because all the teams in the demo are quite good, we are just seeing how good sides can be very hard to beat.

This year they're bringing in some sliders to change the AI system a little, and I know I'll be tinkering with them to get the error ratio in opposition passes and whatnot a little more realistic.

Yeah the opposition AI is my biggest issue too. As I said before in comparison to the PES demo you can force mistakes with the players in that game by applying appropriate and decent pressure.

In FIFA, you apply pressure and go in for the kill and they'll pull off a crazy long pass, slick skill move, etc. and you're left in their wake. It just comes off as more frustrating than anything else.

I can't name the amount of times I've felt like I've put on amazing defensive pressure (regardless of the annoying controls) and they still get around me and get a goal because of it.

FIFA has always had the problem of the AI getting some seemingly fluke goals on a very consistent basis rather than them really working for them. But FIFA 12 seems to have amped that up even more.

It's just as easy to own pressure defending through quick give-and-go passing.

These changes aren't really necessary but I acknowledge that without tactical defending, it's basically the same game. Definitely won't rush to buy this one.

So finally got the demo and yeah, agree with most comments in here about the defending and AI.
The defending is just ehhh so annoying. The way you seem to get possesion off the AI is just hold back and wait for the missed shot or crowd them in the box.
Then it's best to counter-attack. I actually won my first 2 games (1-0) which was on World class hahah, Both goals came off counter attacks.

I'm enjoying most other aspects like passing and shooting. I also had some guy do a full backflip after just getting a tap from defender.

I just read that you can change to the goalkeeper in online ranked games just like you can in the demo, and while you do that your players are CPU controlled.

EA :@

I can see this new Fifa 12 being a very expensive addition to my collection.

Will cost me around $250 I reckon.

$100 for the game and the rest in new controllers.

As soon as you accidentally press the circle button whilst defending 1 on 1 in the box and you miss the tackle you're done.

I don't know how many times I've done it in the demo but in time I suppose I'll get used to the controls.

On the plus side I guess I won't have to worry about me and a friend dragging every defender up the ball carrier by holding O in multiplayer online games anymore :)

Dang. Hope I get at least 30 for it. Will do it this week, can you trade a game in for a preorder? Like decrease the price you have to pay for it, e.g 108 originally, then 30 for LA Noire - only have to pay 78?.

I'm sure you all understood what I meant right away but I have a tendency of explaining things very poorly.

so hard to sell games for their actual worth these days with EB and cash stores making so much profit from it. then you go to ebay to sell for what it is really worth and everyone buys the games brand new from england or asia for $40.

also just thought I'd let you know this guy from EA is answering questions: http://twitter.com/#!/RomilyBroad

Apparently the flair pass (R1 + x or RB + A) is getting fixed up due to too many errors with it in the demo

Same with the impact engine, they're trying to stop players from looking like they are intentionally running into hazards

I switched the buttons and have:

R1 = Contain (formerly X)
Circle = Teammate Contain (formerly R1)
X = Standing tackle (formerly circle)

I find that easier.
