First AFL Premiership Game on Foreign Soil

Cheers, great work! I was pretty sure they wore black pads unless it was a different game that I'm thinking of, my memory is a bit hazy as i was 11 years old in 86 :) I might try and call SEN tomorrow if Derm is on and get him to fess up.
What time is dermie on? Ill have to listen in.

I am neither insecure, fearful nor capable of hating anything. I am not from Sydney,a city I find bereft of redeeming features and I have never had the arrogance to speak for others when not having the mandate to.

I am, on the other hand, scathing in my attitude towards my council for wastingMY money on this farce of a game.....it's AUSTRALIAN football....keep it there.

The bolded shows insecurity. Why shouldn't your country try foreign sports? Why shelter yourself from the outside world? Would you feel this way about ice hockey coming to NZ? What about American football?

Wanting to keep Australian football out of NZ the way you do sounds very insecure.

How about a Suns match in Canada mate ?

Alas no. The game was in 86 and it was played on a synthetic surface at Yokohama, hence the knee and elbow pads. Most players went for plain black but Derm just had to be different :p . If any one has any footage please post them as it was an interesting game in that it was played on a baseball field.

Here is a list of exhibition games played OS, can't believe Demons v Swans drew 32k in Vancouver back in 87' i don't remember this game at all.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football_exhibition_matches

I lived 350 km from Vancouver in 1987 and I don't remember this at all either.

MY ******* MONEY?
.

'Cheers brah'

Is that what you are looking for here?

I love how you feel as though you are talking on behalf of your nation. The arrogance is overwhelming, for a marginal investment the council would have forcast a long term return on 'your' money, I doubt they had taken the decision lightly without some kind of research. There are people like you over here aswell, who also whine about council spending on things they don't need/want because they are too blind to see past themselves. It's nothing new, if you are so worked up about it go speak to those who actually do represent you, don't dribble on about it here.

However, I suspect you are nothing more than a troll who will ultimatey achieve nothing here.

So...just to clarify, you now feel the need to tell me I have no right to question the councils use of MY ******* MONEY?
Get a grip idiot.....22 million in your country and only 3 million max can be arsed (that's your limit)......don't start picking on the other 6 billion on the planet to ease your insecurity.......

The other reason your posts reveal a deep insecurity is: if you hate Australian footy, why would you find an Australian footy message board to sign up for so you can bash the game? That reveals issues. If you don't like the game, don't come around here. Join a rugby message board. Join the "Big hatred of footy" message board. You are in the wrong place.

1. I am not a Kiwi.
2. I am a Wellington Tax Payer
3. My home country has 2 sports that are pretty unique to it...one of which we bastardise everynow and then so you Moos can feel good about being "international"...even though our amateurs often paste your professionals.
4. I genuinely find it funny that you lot think that there will be an AFL team anywhere other than Australia.....ever.
5. Happy ANZAC day:D

I have never met and Irishman I didnt like, I really hope we dont meet!

Anyway I just hope it is a close match on Thursday so it is a good spectacle.

... if you have been reading bf today you will know that there is no chance because the AFL will have already rigged it for the swans

so yeah probably not worth watching

Pogo. I am a New Zealander and Wellingtonian. There is a lack of respect but not just from the AFL but from the WCC as well. This is a money grab and the WCC is on record saying they really never cared about the game itself and are more interested in the hotels being filled up for the weekend.

The WCC is using the blood of New Zealanders as a way to make money'

Do you have a twin brother:D , or have you just forgotten who you are.

And BTW another AFL bashing exercise on the roar, that is passed off as a article.

Written by Joe Gorman, who has plenty of similar articles that are crafted to lead to negative conclusions about anything AFL, and who no doubt worships at the altar of Ian Syson, who is a real loon, and hates the AFL so much he has actually a website dedicated to it.

I have no idea who this Emric fella is, I have never (that I recall) ever posted on the roar, but for the record, I do agree that using ANZAC day as cover for this farce is shamefull.

So many conflicting statements, and temporary amnesia to boot, you are certainly a shallow little person.

You remind me of the Grinch. He couldn't stop Christmas from coming and neither can you.

Demetriou venturing out further and wider into foreign soil in the pursuit of expansion and world domination eh.

How long do we give it before he starts building concentration camps for rugby players?

Officially known as re-education camps.

The 5 Leagues she talks about in the piece are actually down to 3 with Wellington and Otago not having 2 teams to form a "league"....Waikato has a league of 3 teams, Canterbury 4 and Auckland 6.......

Yet, Perth, that is supposedly the best prospect for a new rl team has only one rl league and that has been going backwards for some time now.

The beauty about NZ is that getting Auskick played in schools, up to 35k this year and eventually a proportion of those kids who experience "AFL" will join the community leagues.

.

I am not a Kiwi.

Good. Kiwis are nice people.

I am a Wellington Tax Payer

Garbage collector..........or distributor?

My home country has 2 sports that are pretty unique to it

"Pretty" unique? Something is unique or not unique.
It is my understanding NZ plays profesionally
Rugby rules football and modified Rugby rules football.
Cambdrige rules football.

Those codes are not unique to England they however originated in England.

I genuinely find it funny that you lot think that there will be an AFL team anywhere other than Australia.....ever.

The AFL is a highly professional and costly organisation so the introduction of another AFL team will be some time away. However that does not rule out re-location. Saint Kilda is already looking to up it's presence in NZ.

If you are talking about Australian Football in general then I'm sure an insecure person like you would know that "AFL" is played in over 60 countries, has many international competitions and hosts the AFL International Cup.
Expanding your earlier comment. the AFL GF is now beamed to 212 regions in the world.

Don't interpret what I'm saying as AFL is going to take over the world but rather AFL is making good progress and maybe we'll have a niche like RU does (except for the private school bizzo).

They'll build up. :)
