So Craigy and the Crows made the tough - but certainly fair, and possibly belated - call to drop Burton.

Perhaps in hindsight the reason the coach takes longer than we the fans would like to make such a decision is that he knows the gravity of it. Most likely career-ending - even if they wouldn't come out and say that. That said the gravity of picking players out of form should not be underestimated either (say hello to 1-6).

So after Burton who goes next from the established group of players.

I'd opt for probably Doughty (although he's supposedly "sleeping well at night") or Stevens.

Jaensch, Sloane or possibly even Armstrong could fill Doughty's defensive role whilst Young would appear to be in good form and a clear fit for Stevens 3rd tall defender/utility position.

Thoughts?

Probably Doughty for mine, his form has been average at best, and he plays a position which is fairly replaceable. Stevens is an interesting one, again form has been average this year (when he's played) and with Sellar back for the Bays this weekend I wonder if he'll get back in soon, playing as a KPD/2nd ruck allowing Davis to go forward or if Sellar comes back in and Davis goes out. Hopefully it's the former as Davis has been good so far.

Sadly, we have no shortage of players who are woefully out of form and/or fitness. Those at the head of the line are Porps, Vince, Bock, Stevens and Reilly; then we move onto the older players who are still doing a job, just not as well as they used to - Edwards and Doughty in particular.

At the end of last season, I wanted us to delist/retire both Burton and Edwards as both were showing clearly that their best footy was past them. Edwards was showing signs of slowing down last year and while he survives on his football nous at the moment, he is embarrassingly slow this year which also seems to be reflected in the time it takes him to dispose of the ball.

McLeod and Goody were playing well last year and in the main have continued on with it this year. They deserve their spot.

Doughty has been a bit up and down, but he was one of our better players on Saturday, while Stevens played much more tightly than Bock when he went to defense.

While there has to be changes, the club isn't going to tank IMO, and I fail to see why players who played poorly should survive and those at least with a pass mark should be dropped.
