Like I said needs more protection, if he was at Hawthorn, Sydney or Geelong do you think he would be getting mauled around the ball as he does at Adel, I think not

Even if he was getting the protection, he's still a selfish player. Which is fine, nothing wrong with being selfish if you can deliver. Just not the kind of player who should be captain, certainly not in a team led by a coach who espouses "team first" over everything else.

I just don't see a selfish player full stop

Have to agree to disagree

Would be a bit out of left field considering Sloane and Danger are there in line. But I still think it would be a great move. Next to Sloane he is the heart and soul of the club.
Tex wasn't a candidate last year because of his knee, had he been available there's no reason to think he also wouldn't have been a candidate to fill in for VB.

Mullet grower. Fundraiser. Prime Minister. Knockabout bloke.

Captaincy? why hasn't he been knighted yet?!

At this point, I'd like to thank VB for his service as captain if this is true. He did a good job under trying circumstances. All the best mate.

Yeah I think we will see better protection for the ball carrier by getting back to remembering to block for your teammate.

Would prefer Sloane, but Tex will be up to the onfield task.

Yep I tend to agree. I would have preferred Sloane. I love Tex but he can get fiery. Love the way he comes into take up the challenge if we are being pushed around. I just fear he doesn't know how to control himself at times. His passion may dictate that he does some stupid un-necessary retaliation. I would hate to see our new captain being sidelined through a report.

Personally I glad it sounds like Dangerfield is not being considered.

Pleasantly surprised. We had several inspirational candidates, but you cannot help be impressed by his passion, commitment to the club, and by his competitive beast status. I always wondered if it was a choice between Dangerfield and Sloane, whether it would have been very hard on the one who missed out, but somehow easier for both of them to remain if neither got the gig. Wonder if Craigy is not silently taking the credit for this given his treatment of the young Walker! - sure made him hungry for success! Gee I was pissed off with Craig!

Yea amazed how Tex has changed over the years from being called lazy to being club captain over excellent candidates in Dangerfield and Sloane.

I agree with a lot you have to say. However, I think Tex would mature as a Captain and give us a presence on and off the field which is what havent really had since Roo days.

Look at the presence that players like Pav have on the field and its not hard to see that Tex could have the same. Also from what I have seen so far, pressure does not get to him, some of his 2012 goals in the finals are the most highly pressured situation this Club has faced in years on the field and he converted. 3/4 time goal against the Dockers and HT goal against the Hawks speaks volumes as this after the siren jobs too.

Not to mention basically winning that final against Freo off his own boot, standing up when it really matters like a leader should. Also in that Hawthorn game he converted a goal to get us within a goal in the dying seconds from outside 50 to help get us over the line.

If it is Tex, it fits the rules that Walsh laid down ... and as many picked up he was pretty clear about his views on Tex when he re-signed:

"He's 24, he's got his best footy in front of him but he's also a leader of men. I've seen it already. I've only been at the club a short time but he's an influential person. I had a quick look last night at the votes by the players and Taylor's highly regarded by his peers. When you've got one of the influential leaders of the footy club with those characteristics, what it does is create other people with those characteristics."

Sloane comments in this article, said it too:

“Tex is the one guy I love playing with the most out of everyone on our team ... The energy Tex has and what he brings out of other guys on the field is just awesome. I can’t speak highly enough of playing with Tex. You know he’s got your back. He’s a big presence and you just know he’s going to fight for you. That’s what everyone loves about Tex."

Would be a great appointment.
