Opinion First Captain under Walsh?

I'd compare Tex to Brown in terms of his capacity to perform in the media. Brown made his unsophisticated personality work for him not against him, and in the end the fact he was a colossus on the field just transposed to off field personality.

Tex can be that type of figure - he does not need to be smooth,he can retain his country style.

Like Brown, Tex will be huge on field - as someone said earlier, power forwards make great captains. Brown, Carey, Pav, Riewoldt - something about their presence. Go Tex!

I love that Tex takes an "enforcer" type role in the forward line too. I think that was an underrated loss when he went down to go along with his goalkicking.

I'm torn on the Captain decision, Sloane seems to apidimise everything Walsh stands for, Tex is our true spiritual leader while Danger is an elite damaging player that can take a game from the opposition
apidimise??? o_O:D

Generation Y phonetic spelling for the word "epitomise". Call me ageist if you like, but to me phonetic spelling is just another way of saying illiteracy.

** This is not intended as having a go at the poster in question. My issue is with the education system that failed them.

Maaaate, it's always the teacher's fault. Just ask any student.

Hardly phonetic though is it?

I don't even blame the teachers - they have to teach the curriculum set by the Education Department (or whatever it's called in your particular state/territory). I blame the people who set the curriculum, who removed spelling & grammar many years ago.

It's not that far off, in terms of the way the word sounds. It's not even remotely close to the correct spelling, but they did a reasonable effort based on phonetics alone.

Anyway.. enough whinging about the education system. Back to the topic at hand - when will they announce VB as the Captain for 2015?

I don't think they should. Tex for me. (I was once a Dangerfield convert, but not now). VB needs to re-assert himself into the game, needs to concentrate on just that.

To be fair though I used to pronounce epitome as ee-pee-tome

After hearing Walsh on AA I don't think it will be VB.

Walsh made a big point that the captain needs to be able to do more than lead off the field. He believes that a captain needs to be able to lead from the front by making an impact out on the field, I don't think VB is the type of player that fits the mould that Walsh was talking about.

Yes I heard him talking about that on AA. Nobody can question VB's courage, and even though I've seen him kick the game-sealing goal, and the much needed steadying goal on several occasions, I just can't equate him to the match-winning feats of…Luke hodge for example. VB - great guy, steadying influence on all players, good leader and good player, but doesn't have the star quality Walsh is alluding to.

It's VB for me too, if he's going to be best 22 which at this point, particularly considering his achilles, is debatable.
This should automatically rule him out

I think you misread Walsh. His team philosophy doesn't fit with the hero as leader. On field leadership within a team first approach means sacrifice, courage, game awareness, knowing what to do, guiding the kids, right decisions under pressure. That makes a huge impact. Not "jump on my shoulders and I'll carry you all over the line".

VB.

I agree that he doesn't want an individual hero as the captain, but still somebody that consistently performs at an elite level. I don't think it's guaranteed that when the game is in the balance VB won't go missing. Sloane/Danger/Tex/Talia for me.

What about the spell checks. Most programmes are set to US spelling and slowly the spelling of words like expertise come up as expertize.
