At the end of the day, VB didn't even make the 22 for one game last year.

There were patches of games in 2013 where, had he not held the captaincy, his place in the side would have been under scrutiny, such was his form. Surely you acknowledge that?
That's the 'gold pass' that he enjoyed by having the C against his name.

Lets be honest. If VB was not captain in some of the games in 2013, he would have been dropped. He was always going to get replaced with the new coach. I think they might have already thought about replacing him last year but with the injury, it would have been a bit of a PR disaster in their eyes, when in reality it would have been a perfect time to replace him
The early signs are that Sloane and his new coach will develop a frank and trusting relationship. Walsh was honest with Sloane regarding the reasons he appointed Taylor Walker as captain – an appointment that took most football observers by surprise and yet had been on the cards since November last year.
"To his (Sloane's) credit, he didn't agree with some of my observations," said Walsh, "and he said: 'I'll show you what a good leader I can be.'
"Tex, for me, was the obvious choice. I need leaders who impact games, change direction of games and Tex has that quality more than the others. I also need an element of 'follow me' and he's outstanding at it."
Sloane, who is well known for his ability to demand commitment from his teammates, denied he had been disappointed in missing the Adelaide captaincy and said he was aware of some off-field behaviours he needed to improve on.
"I won't go into detail, but I think it's not so much game-day stuff," he said. "I think I could do more work mentoring our younger kids. But I'm really comfortable with Tex and I've said this to Tex – he's got the ability to stand up and influence games and you want your captain to stand up in games like that. You just have to go back to that (second semi) final against Fremantle (in 2012) to see how much influence he can have on a game."
That is actually a very good post!Rory had some interesting comments in this article by Caro.

You see Tex and Danger taking in the new draftees to live with them, but you don't see this from Rory. I think Tex and Rory have everything on-field that Walsh wanted, Rory has the 'follow me' element, his shoulders never drop, he always acts as if the team can still win, Rory just didn't have the off-field mentoring that the other 2 blokes did. Danger doesn't really have the 'follow me' element, he tries but for whatever reason his big moments don't seem to lift the team, it's almost as if he's so freakish, when he starts doing the extraordinary the team thinks "danger will get us home" rather than "let's do what danger is doing" not sure if that is his fault or their fault.
So that's what it came down to, Danger is not as good on-field as Rory and Tex, Rory is not as good off-field as Danger and Tex, Tex gets the job.

Tex never forgets a supporters name and always greets you by name at the Alma. Top bloke.
I don't think that's quite right.Rory had some interesting comments in this article by Caro.

I wish I could say the same.. I forget people's names all the time....
I don't think that's quite right.
Tex has the onfield presence and follow me persona that's what it came down to for Walsh. Rory is easily as good as the others off field if not better no matter what he says. He just hasn't got that on field presence and game changing ability like Tex.
Tex has that Wayne Carey follow me and we win swagger. Just my opinion.
Is it just me or was Walsh a bit inappropriate disclosing that Sloane made "an impassioned phone call to plead his case for the role"?
It's not something I'd disclose and I feel a bit awkward for Sloane.
Was that on the AFL game day show ? Cant get it here.
Pretty sure that Sloane said it first on Sunday, so how can it be inappropriate if Sloane has already told the media about it?
If he said it first... I've seen no proof yet. Remain skepticalAh right. Didn't know that.

Looking at the paper today looks like tex has a tatt on his left calf/ankle. I thought we were cleanskins.
