Religion Folau

If, and I don't condone this behaviour, Folau's church was set on fire by an arsonist - would this count as an act of God? What about if a lightning strike knocked an electrical pole onto it and that was the cause? This would surely have to be deemed God's judgement for not really doing what he wanted them to do by acting like complete fu**sticks.
I will believe in god if Gold Coast wins every game in 2020 and I see Folau busking 'amazing grace' on Swanston street with the appearance of a homeless and destitute man.

If/when that happens, I'll throw $100 into his hat and attend church for the first time in years. Bookmark it.

What he paid the ARU and they didn't apologise to him?
Folau apologised as well. Fact is we know nothing about the settlement and to suggest Folau "big time" is just bollocks without knowing the first detail about it.

It was an agreement of convenience, so much for principle, no win for the anti religion lobby?

In fact we do

Folau apologised to the rugby community and anyone he offended not Australian Rugby

Australian Rugby apologised directly to the Folau's

Rugby Australia acknowledges and apologises for any hurt or harm caused to the Folaus
.

Australian Rugby admitted Folau's comment were his deeply held religious beliefs in affect admiting they had no case

RA and NSW RU admit Folau social media posts

reflected Mr Folau's genuinely held religious beliefs" and he did not intend any harm or offence.

Gough
that isn't an equal apology.

Rugby Australia offered 2 million plus months ago on Monday Raylene Castle said this

Rugby Australia is confident in its legal position but we come here today with a genuine desire to find a settlement that is sensible and reasonable so that we can return all our focus and resources to growing the game of rugby across Australia,"

Paraphrasing that means our legal position is shite and we want out.

So Folau got somewhere between 3/4 million to 14 million plus costs at a guess

Can RA hide the amount, not sure if the Wookie covers RA's numbers.

no it will be in their annual report and there will be a gaping hole in their finances which will be difficult to hide. The moment they publish their report we will know the amount. If they pay it out immediately or not they will still need to put in an allowance too.

They got beasted.

With or without legal expenses?
Pirate Petes prognostications will be worth buying the local 9 paper ...

More than $2 million was raised by the Australian Christian Lobby to fund Mr Folau's legal expenses after his page on crowd-funding website GoFundMe shut down in June for breaching its terms of service.

"Donors who gave to the Folau campaign will be contacted in due course and are entitled to refunds on a pro-rata basis, in accordance with our original commitment," ACL managing director Martyn Iles wrote on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon
A pro rata basis... So the payout didn't cover the entire costs?

It will be $1 or $2 million from RA, all his costs covered, and he keeps the $3.5m Go Fund Me money.

And the Heathens got flogged in the world cup. And we all suffer the Wrath of Bushfires.

Colour me surprised!

A back down from RA, could've all been avoided if they didn't have contradiction in their stupid HR policy.

And now there's going to be an introduction of "freedom of religious rights" bill. Well that's going to end well isn't it?

Could've all been avoided if RA just admitted their policy painted themselves in a corner at the time and stated something like this.

"While we disagree with the twitter post from Israel Folau we also agree we have no course of action because our HR policy states we can't discriminate against anyone with religious beliefs". Instead we have this shitshow which clearly displays RA's policy as contradictory and Folau as either a bigot or a delusion believer.

:drunk:

Wasnt a refund being discussed? The donations for legal fees exceeded the costs?
If full costs were awarded and paid by Rugby Australia then I would think those who donated would receive a full refund. Unless of course it is The Lord's will that Folau keep some of that money as well I suppose.

Why? It's already protected by higher law (constitution).

This case has already set a precedent, "let's go to court because you sacked me based on your policy stating that I can't post things that are discriminatory but also states I can't be discriminated against based on my religion"

Because of that, we are now going to have "freedom of religious rights" bill to protect those who believe in religion (or would claim to) in future cases like this.

So what that means is I can claim to believe in religious texts and use it to discriminate against minority groups if I want to. The employer would then have no recourse to sack me - unless they want to go to court. Then it's up to judge and jury.

I'm not suggesting that every religious nut is going to go around posting excerpts from the bible claiming all sinners will go to hell because they'll feel there'll be no consequence to doing that.

But the avenue will be there if my understanding of the bills intention is correct.

Did I miss where costs were awarded? Unusual in a mediation ..... link?

Under fairwork you can't sack someone for their religious beliefs expressed outside and not in the delivrry of your work. RA were always screwed.
