Religion Folau

Under fairwork you can't sack someone for their religious beliefs expressed outside and not in the delivrry of your work. RA were always screwed.

RA sacked Folau for his religious beliefs (what he claims). He hasn't been reinstated either.

Now we've ended up someone who has lost their job and a sporting organization that has lost all it's credibility.

So fairwork has failed and now there will be a proposed bill that will allow people like Folau to post whatever they want without the consequence of being sacked. If my understanding of the proposed bill is what the intent is.

Haha well done Folau. Made RA look like spineless weak peasants.

It was their own doing, how do you have a code of conduct that has a protection clause for two minority groups that have opposing views and expect it not to blow up in your face?

That's exactly what has happened here.

Good to see homophobia alive and thriving in this country. But don't anyone say anything bad about the religious folk or they'll scream "Persecution!".

Did I miss where costs were awarded? Unusual in a mediation ..... link?
Obviously nothing was "awarded", poor wording by me, as the matter was settled. I was trying to figure why the refund was only partial. What you've suggested could be correct (donations exceeded the bill). Folau walks away with an agreed severence and the donors pick up the tab for his legal costs, as is God's will.

What about Fornicators? How dare he suggest I'm going to hell...?
We all know who his vitriol was aimed at and he followed that up with his comments regarding the bushfires.

I happen to think Folau’s a moron and should just be ignored but I do believe this is quite a positive in the fight against the whole politically correct “My opinion is better than yours” society that we’re rapidly becoming.

Really, all that needed to happen right at the start was everyone just ignore the muppet. But no, everyone had to race each other to see who would be the most outraged.

If a couple of ludicrously blabbered words ruin your life to that degree then there’s not much hope for you in that nasty world outside is there.

The ruling sort of sucks because we're none the wiser of what precedent has been set (if any). My guy feel is RUA hadn't actually explicitly stated in the contract that the code of conduct was enforceable by law and came to the realisation that they were screwed. It's not a win for religious freedom or whatever - it's a ruling on how much your employer can have a say on your activity in public. It's a big old mess because we have no idea of what was actually in the employment contract.

I do laugh that he then jumped in with the "religious people need more protection" bit. You can't have it both ways - either someone can sack you for your religious beliefs or they can't. He's gotten a golden handshake on the basis that he was sacked for his religious beliefs but he then wants other organisations to have the right to sack people on the basis of their religious beliefs.

I agree to a point but I would argue that while everyone is entitled to an opinion, not all opinions should be considered equal. If your opinion is based on reason, logic and evidence it should hold more weight than those that are not. If the best you've got is a book of indeterminate origin, riddled with inconsistencies, filled with stories that are fanciful at best, then you should be considered on shaky ground.

We live in an overactive society due to social media but I don't think you can apply a blanket 'just ignore it' mentality to every situation.

We should have freedom of speech but if someone is acting in a discriminatory manner, it's at least worthy of discussion.

Existing fairwork covers folau now, it always did as I have said throughout this thread. He was paid for lost , future income and damages

And I agree with you to a point also.

But opinions aren’t necessarily facts are they.

And I’m sick of the way interest groups/sections of society/journalists keep telling me what my opinion should be.

I can’t watch “ the news “ anymore. It’s very rarely presentation of facts these days.

Murdoch reporting it was $8 million. Small price to pay to be rid of the oxygen thief. Hope he has fun counting his money and giving his shit house talks to a handful of people in his dad's front room. Good riddance to the piece of shit.

Sure, but it rarely ( if ever ) happens that way.

This whole storm in a teacup degenerated very rapidly. It never even made it to “discussion”.

Religion discriminates against LGBTQ people, it also discriminates against drunks, people who have sex and kids of wedlock; anyone who is not a believer of the he one true faith. So that's alot of people it discriminates against. Islam, Judaism, Hinduism etc are far worst than Christianity.

Western society is built on freedom of religion and in Australia you can't discriminate against a person faith many areas.

This whole episode was caused by LGBTQ people yelling persecution at a religious nutter that most people ignore, they gave him a platform.
