Religion Folau

Agreed. The right to discriminate for them but not for us, a bit absurd do you not think? Particularly considering the basis for this "right".

There is no "perfect" Gough.

You better get used to this fact, and adjust your rationale accordingly.

Become an anarchist.

That's really not an answer. Why is it that in 2020 fealty to a fairy tale gives you a right discriminate that other people don't enjoy? It seems to me that freedom of speech is applied selectively.
It's an answer instead saying toughen the f up. Why can't everybody be happy with calling him an idiot, he said most people are going to imaginary hell hole run by an imaginary god, why get so triggered. We either allow freedom of speech or we don't and we ban religion.

I dont want to live in China, where all minorities suffer.

I agree life's not fair and I'm totally good with that, what I have an issue with is laws further entenching and making worse the inequality which is exactly what the government want to do with the religious freedom legislation. We have a section of the commentariat losing their shit over the case in front of the High Court at the moment arguing that we'd create one sort of citizenship for Indigenous people and another for us whiteys yet this is what the what the religious freedoms bill will do. Those of faith can behave in a way that the rest of us are unable to do.

It's not "entrenching" shit mate. Christianity is (rightfully) in serious decline. Check the numbers.

Why? Because it's views and beliefs are ridiculous. It's demise is garaunteed, along with the rest of the fairy tales.

Did this require government intervention? No. It's a further extension of the enlightenment. Government interventions can actually lead to a resurgence of absurd ideas.

I don't think it was a freedom of speech issue to begin with, it was a "oh shit we might lose sponsors" reaction for RA and possibly a contractual issue.

Nobody is stopping Folau from his particular brand of sky-fairy worship. RA panicked. Here we are.

If you do not believe in God or do not believe in the interpretation of the Bible that Israel Folau has then you would have no logical reason to be offended by the post and your reaction should have been an eye roll at most.

The main driver of this whole thing blowing up is the need of people to be offended on behalf of other people.

The majority of Australians would not agree with the views held by Folau but his support is much higher than many would estimate due to a backlash against this sort of outrage culture.

It's a bit of a lottery if you go to court on compensation, he was never going to get 14 million, they paid plenty so he is happy.
Did they pay plenty? Do we know or are we going off speculation?

I guess with all that money in his back pocket Israel is not going to be able to fit through the eye of a needle.

Izzy now needs another sport to participate in.. I'd like to see him put out a challenge to Barry Hall and/or Paul Gallen.

Your right RA panicked, they sacked an employee for his religious beliefs

The only thing Rugby Australia was trying to do was get out of this with as little damage to their brand as possible. They weren't running an anti-religious crusade or anything, they simply didn't want Folau's homophobia to stick to them and turn off mainstream Australia. I'm not sure why there's so much nuffy triumphalism in this thread, but I guess you take your wins wherever you think you can claim them.

The triumphalism, read some of the posts, you'd find it hard to believe what this decision was going to do.

He is too soft for that, Japan, France, NRL or become a Full Time Pastor of an extreme Pentecostal church

It's a "win" for those who feel they "lost" when ssm was legalised. Same way this religious freedom bill is about getting revenge for that.

Not at all, you really have to move on

It's a win for people who don't want to be discriminated against at work for their personal religious beliefs.

But who will scream blue murder if their right to discriminate is removed.

you cant get rid of Christianity in the west

its the basis of the modern world. wake up
Not really. It's just the survivor, made up of bits and pieces of everything that fell away. The good and the bad.

His rugby opportunities are dependent on whether the Japanese want to give him a go because he ain't getting a look in elsewhere where there's money at present.

They didn't want to be associated with his bigotry and they've successfully cut him loose. Would have cost them a lot more if they'd have kept him on.

You can go after straight while males any time you want. And you know it.

I wonder how much Qantas tip in, given they (or more specifically one individual at Qantas) are(is) 100% of the reason behind this mess.

Wouldn't be surprised if their CEO made a phone call shortly after the Folau tweet.
