In case anyone's still wondering if they're on team humanity or team farkwit ...

Always amuses me when Alan Jones weighs in on these issues. The words "Toilet" and "London" always come to mind.

It makes me feel bad for Jones every time I see him comment on LGBTIQ+ issues. I lived with self loathing for 30+ years, and it sucked. He's lived with it for twice that long.

Saw this today and thought it was a bit of a gaff from editor.. Alan Jones probably spewed when he saw a Tagline that could be taken out of context as him and Australia supporting a Middle Eastern nation ;)

Lucky they included a photo.

Only reason we are not also saying “little kiddies” is that he had high powered silks who argued it was too dark in the toilet so he could not tell how young they were.

It would be difficult to imagine Cheika selecting a player for a Test match because he had a schoolboy like crush on him.

Many drunk drivers in he AFL have lost their clubs TAC sponsorship through illegal actions, but haven’t had their playing contracts cancelled and sometimes the sponsorship has potentially been more valuable to the club than the player (eg. Sharrod Wellingham).
This whole thing stinks.
Folau offended twice, and has shown no remorse for his actions. If Wellingham had been caught drink driving twice and shown no remorse, you may have a point.
Cheika publicly saying he wouldn’t select him while also acknowledging that he hadn’t spoken with Folau yet. How’s that for courtesy? On what basis is he not selected? Because his beliefs are different?
For breaking the ARU's inclusion policy. Do you habitually break your employers policies and expect no disciplinary action?
So if he’d kept them to himself, he’d be ok to be in the team?
Yes. Keeping bigoted beliefs to yourself would be a wise personal decision. Folau doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed, does he?
Folau’s teammates speaking about being inclusive, but not being inclusive of Folau and his beliefs. They weren’t baying for Kurtley Beale’s blood when he had his issues. There’s obviously an inclusiveness hierarchy, and homosexuality is higher on the inclusivity scale than Christianity.
Where are these organised large-scale extremist homosexual groups who are attacking Christians for their faith? *crickets chirping*.

Do you think that people with racist beliefs should be welcomed into professional sporting clubs for the sake of being inclusive?
It’s also been turned into a single issue, issue, and homosexuality is also the only one frequently quoted in the media of the numerous behaviours which Folau posted of in his tweet. This is simply a case of the Twitter mob getting their pound of flesh.
Homosexuals are a minority group who have been frequently targeted by religious zealouts over their sexual preference which they have no control over. Only recently were they given marriage equality in Australia, and they still face persecution from religious zealouts in many parts of the world. If Folau had posted that black people were going to Hell for being black, would you have wondered why it was highlighted above drunks and fornicators?
If Folau had quoted the 10 commandments, what would the outcome have been then?
No ****s given by the general public or media. As you can see, it's not an attack on religion.
I pinched a lolly from the milk bar when I was a kid, and because of that would “go to Hell” according to Folau’s tweet, but water off a duck’s back for me. Would probably be so if I were gay too
You clearly don't understand the issue at hand.

This is a grey area of the right to freedom of speech. In essence, I absolutely agree that maintaining freedom of speech should be upheld as one of society's highest virtues.

In this instance, I worry mostly for young gay Christians. Being at a higher risk of suicide and mental illness than the average teenager, it is not unforseeable that some in this cohort would be adversely affected (I mean seriously, not just being offended) by Folau's tweets.

When such grey areas arise, I think it is incumbent on society to respond in such a way as to preserve freedom of speech, which means that we must find alternatives to censoring, yelling at and/or banning people to deal with the tension that arises from such a situation.

With all of that considered, I think the best course of action would be for Folau not to be sacked, and a societal response to ensue that reaches out to young gay Christians and indeed others Folau believes to be of lesser value than he, and offer support to them publicly.

Jesus never stated he hated homosexuals; it's old testament tripe that includes banning women from social interaction during their menses. In the background, The Church could come out and clarify the "facts" laid bare in The Bible, and make sure people stick to everything as stated in the text or to develop a new, considered reading of the text to offer as a basis for teachings going forward.
The bible requires interpretation; it isn't a book of facts. That's why we have so many denominations and religious figureheads finding different truth from the book of truth.

Folau was warned of the consequences the first time around, so being sacked is a fair and reasonable response from his employer. If he wanted to continue his employment with the ARU, he had the option to follow their policies...which he previously agreed to do btw.

How many chances should one person get?

Sure, but are you a public figure who dealt with their self loathing by using your platform to broadcast and peddle your bigoted opinions out across the wide expanse of society?

And in Jones’ case I ain’t talking just about LBGT+ issues either.

Irrespective of the issues he is dealing with his sexuality, it’s his conscious choice whether to comment or STFU about LBGT+ issues.

No need to feel bad about Jones at all, he’s a loathsome gutter creature.

Yes, of course. The ARU haven’t sanctioned Folau for his beliefs. They’ve sanctioned him for publicly proselytising an opinion that is considered bigoted in this modern age.

Seriously? Let’s clear this up right now. Folau is on contracts worth, or near, 1 million plus per year

Not only that, he is an Australian representative in Rugby Union

Guess what? Your freedom of speech is limited based on your contractual obligations.

This is more than fair

Anyone who disagrees with this is living in a fantasy land

Fundie religion = fantasy land. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ll tell you what, if Lord Jebus chews his way out of the chocolate cave & listens to Folau & sends you c**nts to a burning eternity where each testickle takes turns to be chargrilled . Well you fornicating motherfu**jers will be whistling a different tune

Who has been convicted over their thoughts?

Hmm, when their thoughts have been written down so everyone can see them?

Galileo? Sentenced to life imprisonment for daring to suggest that the earth goes round the sun....I can come up with heaps more if you want

You are free to have an opinion, until such time as persons you have never met take offence, which upon when you must keep your thoughtcrimes to yourself
I’m assuming you’re too young to have read 1984

1984 was a book about the power of the state, the state’s use of propaganda, and the power of the state to exert control over its citizen’s thoughts and actions.

The Folau issue has got nothing to do with the state, it’s about an employer’s relationship with their employee.

Many employers consider their employees to be brand ambassadors. It’s entirely normal for employers to do a scan of prospective employees’ social media profiles before employing them. It’s entirely normal that employers refrain from employing somebody who expresses what Folau did on social media. It‘s entirely normal for employers to put clauses in employment contracts about how they expect their staff conduct themselves on social media. It’s entirely normal for employers to take action against employees who breach those conditions.

And in the case of sporting organisations, this is not a new thing, they’ve always been that way.

Yep, if he loves freedom of speech so much, are we allowed to speak about his trip to the cubicles?

Don't think what folau posted up was actually freedom of speech.
It affected every community.
It was hate speech.

He's at fault because he has a strong religious belief.

We all have to be careful about what it is we post up online these days.
I've seen people lose their jobs over their comments on facebook about their employer and about their fellow employees.

Be respectful as much as we possibly can be.
It pays big just to be kind towards others.

This just keeps reminding me of the good old quote:

"Having a religious belief is like having a Penis. You are allowed to have one, no one is too bothered by it, until you whip it out and start trying to make everyone accept it."

Folau should have identified as a comedian before he posted on Instagram.

I found this little gem.

Isaac Butterfield - Comedian (I've watched him in youtube a couple of times, he has a lot of admirers. I think he's pretty much an unfunny flog, he tries too hard and thinks he's funny because he throws in some ****s and campaigners)

During the Melbourne International Comedy Festival that's on, someone took offence to what he said about Jews during WWII. This seems to be the sequence of events and the wash-up. :

A Jewish woman who attended his show said he made the remark “imagine the joy of people when they heard the Jews were sent to the gas chambers” during the gig.

Offended by the comment, she sent Mr Butterfield an email, saying: “Sitting there hearing about Jews being gassed, eight million perished including children, watching family members being gassed or tortured or shot, is not remotely funny.”

He replied: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the oven.”

The woman, who did not want to be identified, saw this as a further attack on her community.

“This is simply disgraceful, I am outraged and distressed that this type of attitude and ignorance exists and is a topic of humour for a one-man show,” she said.

Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich said the comedian should apologise for the comments.

“It’s never OK to spew such hate rhetoric, and Isaac Butterfield should be ashamed for his hideous remarks that crossed all lines and which trampled on the memory of the dead,” he said.

“It is beyond shocking to exploit the extermination of six million Jews in the Holocaust to generate despicable jokes.

“When you consider that the corpses of those killed with the poison gas were often cremated in ovens, Mr Butterfield’s email response of ‘get out of the oven’ is disturbing and vicious.”

He urged the festival organisers to consider whether he should be given a platform in future.

However, a Melbourne Comedy Festival spokeswoman said performers are able to express their views, even those deemed offensive.

“The festival does not censor artists’ work and the annual event represents the individual views, observations and humour of the artists involved,” the spokeswoman said.

“Melbourne audiences have the intelligence to make calls about the work of various comedians and either support them or hold them to account for their views.”

Organisers of the festival have, however, been quick to drop Barry Humphries' name from the award for best comedian because he said something about transgenders that they don't like.

The joint's ****ed.

Great story but...
‘Why should Issy be able to discriminate one the basis of sexuality after he has been formally told not to and signed a contract saying he wouldn’t???
