Eagles losing margins - 5, 41, 63, 47, 40, 108, 46, 70, 116, 50, 63, 122, 171.

Their losses against the better sides are the highlighted, in order > Demons, Cats, Port, Magpies.

Their 4 100+ point losses were against lesser sides ie. Blues, Hawks, Crows and Swans.

If the players go in expecting a 150 point win it wont happen, IMO we are more likely to get a margin in the 50-70 point range.

I read a suggestion the other day which I thought was quite brilliant.

Play the bye rounds over 9 weeks (2 teams each week) from say Round 9 to Round 17. And then the two teams that had the bye play each other the following Thursday night. That way we get the double whammy of avoiding the whole "losing coming off the bye" anomaly, PLUS more footy on Thursday nights. Winning!
I don't see that suggestion happening Grasshopper17.
The break is a work agreement about the players. It is not about fans missing a week of their team not playing.
How teams perform pre and post bye is similar to how some teams perform in round 1.

Just part of the whole AFL puzzle of wins v losses:
Home v away, injuries, bogy teams (Hawks), bogy grounds (MCG), the weather, night v day games, having the bye early in round 12 (Lions, Saints, Swans, Dockers) or having to play another 3 weeks to get a break in round 15 (Port, Dogs, Giants, Tigers, Blues, North).

The players want the bye to break up the season. They actually want two.
A players mini holiday if you like. This break may help them regenerate their season and possibly recover from minor issues.
So that period is going to happen in the middle of the year. Clubs can manage players at other times if needed.

Also, if the Tasmania team gets up and going there will be a bye round each week plus the usual bye round.

For the majority of people, it is their team's bye round that matters. So, just one week to fill in the void.
Supporters can also arrange a bit of time away around their teams bye round if they so desire.

People that play fantasy footy most likely hate the bye weeks.
Once again it is about the AFL players getting a break not the Fantasy Footy Teams or Tipping Competitions.

I know this is (or should be) tongue in cheek but people need to temper their expectations on a 100+ win being a pass.
Nah I'm putting a joker on us in Margin Mania. 200+ margin or sack Fagan

And we also have to score more than 239 points otherwise our club should be placed into crisis mode ;)

A 100+ point win against West Coast, at home, with the longest trip in footy (after the 2nd longest just gone) should be the minimum expectation at present. But I'd be shocked if it happens with our current group.

You make a decent argument. However my counter would be that two of those were in Perth, the other was Gather Round on neutral territory (and Geelong led by 80 pretty early on in that game too), and when they played Port they weren't going nearly as well as they are now. It's easy to forget that early in their winning run, Port won a number of close games and looked very vulnerable. A 40 point win against West Coast was actually pretty much expected for what was a middle of the road team at that time.

West Coast on the other hand have deteriorated considerably since then, and in what is becoming a percentage "arms race" (Melbourne still get to play both North AND Hawthorn), we absolutely need to cash in.

Particularly if we lose on Thursday.

What's the easiest Gabba game left? I really need to see us at home after watching this but I've been scarred by years of taking what I can get and seeing us slaughtered.

I hate that they keep the '36 of 41 wins at home' over however long that is (must be the 4th season). Mainly because we have had three trips to the Gabba in that time (from WA) and have been to 3 of the 5 losses.

The GWS final was exciting and worth it for the experience even with the poor result. We decided last year enough was enough and picked a 'sure win' and managed to pick the COVID-19 tainted debacle vs the Bombers.

I think the message is if you're planning a trip, message me to see if we are going as a Yes will save you a few bucks and disappointment...

I was at the GWS loss as well. A few years back I went to the Suns game precisely because of this logic. Luckily we held on to win by 93 that time, but it's close to my only Gabba win since '03.

Edit: looking at the remaining options, I can't get up in time for West Coast this weekend (thought that was in Perth for some reason, oops) so the options are Geelong (potential nailbiter), Adelaide (a danger game!), or St Kilda (ew). Might have to be Adelaide, though I've got good memories of a couple of games I've seen of theirs at the game... The Adelaide game will be payback. mark it down as a win.

I wouldn’t pick what you would think would be the easiest one.
Go for the hardest one and you will see the best of the Lions.

Obviously you don't know who might be injured/suspended but I'd be surprised if we lost at the gabba this year. Cats on paper the toughest outing but Adelaide probably playing just as well as them? I just can't see the Cats beating us up around the ball with no Selwood and the younger guys running through there.

Lions Post History-Making Win Against Tigers

The Brisbane Lions will enjoy the weekend with the satisfaction of having turned the clock back 28 years to post their biggest win ever against Richmond.

Ironically, best afield for the home team that night was Adrian Fletcher, father of Jaspa. The then 25-year-old midfielder had 30 possessions and kicked two goals for three Brownlow Medal votes.

Michael Voss kicked five goals and Nigel Lappin an equal career-best four goals in a side which also included Marcus Ashcroft, father of Will, who was a standout on Thursday night with 27 possessions.

Love the father/son.

Good article about Dunkley tagging the opposition best midfielder in centre bounces allowing Lachie to clean up.

Good all-round article on the Lions midfield from The Roar editor

Cats have a consistent away form so you kinda know what you’re going to get.

Crows are erratic, generally a poorer team away. Their recent game against Collingwood probably an outlier.

This must not have been written by the same chap who completely wrote us off after the trade period last year...

Just had another go at the ladder predictor and I have the top 4 as >

Magpies
Lions
Port
Bulldogs

Port have a very tough run home and the Bulldogs a reasonably good run, if that pans out I would say the Pies and Lions would be unbackable favourites to win their home Qualifying Finals.

Huge game for the Demons today re their top 4 chances.
