Fourth Test team

What happened to Hilton Cartwright? Seemingly was the next big thing and really liked the look of his technique. I feel like Marnus is in a similar boat, not quite ready but in a few years with a few seasons in the shield, could develop into a very good middle order player.

Cartwright is dead lucky to be in the WA side right now.

They are pretty poor against it. Murali, Warne, Swann, Herath - all hasn’t fantastic records against Pakistan. Hell, Mark Craig took 7 in an innings against them and he’s arguably the worst spinner I’ve ever seen play an international. Plus, their batting is absolutely terrible since Misbah and Younis retired. They produce a lot of decent spinners but they’re inferior to Sri Lana and India at playing it

That's an interesting point. Still it was a strange move to drop a player, given his versatility, after picking up 7 wickets in two Tests.

No, I want a bloke to be given more than 2 Tests, who happens to represent Queensland, after performing commendably in UAE. Most of these Victorian batsmen have been given multiple opportunities; they have abysmal techniques that means they will never be consistent at Test level; the way out of the predictament is to back in players with talent i.e. batsmen with technique.

That is something Labuschagne has, but he needs to be given a block of matches.

Victoria bad. Queensland good. Got it. [emoji12]

Marnus Labuschagne. Oh good grief.

He averaged 20 with the bat, and then went home and averaged 18 with the bat before the first test. So not strange at all really.

Should stick with a batting order that has failed for several years, by going back to the same players with the same flawed techniques.

Or we could pick someone who is not in form, is not a test quality player, and expect better?

Any of Burns, Wade, heck Id even prefer Henriques. But this is madness.

Has scored 1000 from shield cricket this year alone.
S.marsh scores 100 every time he's dropped, how long do we keep going down the same path. The gap between shield cricket and Test cricket is massive because of the old dollar chase thru t20. Warner was a one in a lifetime transition.
Australia are as weak as what the standard of Sheffield Shield supplies

Undoubtedly, he has to succeed as a batsman if he's holding a position down in the top 6. It is a pity he hasn't scored more runs at Shield level this season, although it is difficult to put your name forward given the stop start nature of the Shield competition.

I think at the moment the selectors have to make a change to that batting line-up and that Labuschagne, who is techniquely a good player, is the best option.

At least he has a technique. Is he ready right now? Probably not. However in a period where we aren’t expected to win I’d rather pump games into players that might have a future. No point going back to tried failures- we’ve seen how that went with Mitch Marsh.

Well actually, the last time Wade was recalled to the Australian side he wasn't exactly in stellar form with the bat, averaging around 25 with the bat that year. The first time he got called up his average was up around the 40 mark. Wade has always shown that he has a solid enough technique and a lot of grit in him, and has made a ton batting at 6 in test cricket.

Marnus Labuschagne. Oh good grief.

I'm a Queenslander but putting aside state loyalties, I have to agree that this is a weird selection.

Laubuschange (according to SEN) ranks 26th on the Sheffield Shield runs aggregate and he's really a part timer as a bowler.

If you want a part timer to fill the second spin option what's wrong with using Head in this role and bringing in a specialist batsman to replace M Marsh (the obvious out).

Joe Burns or Wade or Maxwell (who is also a useful spin option) or even Stoinis or Handsconbe

I'm confused

He's had 5 straight games in the Shield this season and hasn't made runs. Other players, such as Wade (who despite your protests is technically sound), Burns, Cooper (although that would be a terrible selection) among others have.

Was never the next big thing. Was always a WTF selection.

He was averaging mid-40's in FC cricket when he was selected. Still, he's only 26, wouldn't be surprised if he came good soon.

Labuschange has yet to perform to even half the level any of those players had to just to get selected and he was given a go anyway, expecting more then 2 tests when he was only brought in for a dust bowl option on the sub continent is laughable. Take your shot in sydney this week and when he fails because he hasn't shown anything to warrant state selection let alone a national call up don't come crying when he is dropped for the next 2 tests.

He can't be any worse than a few options, especially the bloke at 6 in this test!

As much as it pains me, the more and more I think of it I think the selectors will keep Finch opening. Think it will be the same top 5, with Handscomb, Labuschagne and Mitch all vying for that number 6 spot.

If Mitch get's another test I'll give up. He's beyond awful.
