Fourth Test team

No wonder Vaughan is pushing so hard to get Marsh on the Ashes tour!
I suppose he's also pushing for Cummins to be rested?

Langer is being exposed for the fraud he is.
For Christ’s sake, what’s with the (mostly Victorian) posters obsession with bagging Langer for problems that extend back practically a decade. He’s been in charge of a truly shite team for five Tests, got one win against the number one team and a draw in the UAE that absolutely no one expected.

Langer loves Mitch and he's made no attempt to hide it.
Has played one Test under him.

We should just put Renshaw back in the side and just keep playing him and drop finch...give young blokes time in the side
People are melting over selecting Labuschange on not enough SS runs and he has scored a fair bit less.

Still haven't forgiven him for holding Mathew Elliot out of the side.

He's been cheer leading for Mitch to become Captain since before he was Coach, from Dec last year:
Western Australia coach and former Australia batsman Justin Langer has touted Mitchell Marsh as an Australia captain of the future, while declaring the national selectors should include him in the team for the third Ashes Test in Perth on what is likely to be a pancake flat WACA Ground pitch.

While typically hesitant to change a winning team, Langer said that the likely conditions for the Perth Test meant that Australia would need a fifth bowling option and that Marsh was ready to step in, having returned to the bowling crease after shoulder surgery. He has also been in outstanding touch with the bat as captain of Western Australia.

He’s been touted as a future captain since under 19 days. Thing is, JL actually left him out of the First Test when everyone thought he would pick him. Brought him back to carry some bowling load, which was sadly somewhat justified and will probably drop him again. He’s actually getting a tougher run under Langer than Lehman.

At least Renshaw made a 200 or 300 in local cricket
I mean good on him i spose? He still can't buy a run at shield level and does not deserve to be anywhere near the test team at the moment.

Most people on here 'OMG WHY DO THE MARSH'S GET PICKED WITHOUT EARNING A SPOT'

A lot of the same people 'Just pick Renshaw and give him a chance'

Picking Renshaw now should not even be considered, let a young talented player earn a spot back in the team so when he does get the call up he has confidence and believes he can play at this level.

Coming out with cringey shite like 'Elite Honesty' and then flip-flopping on his own supposed selection criteria hasn't helped. I daresay him publicly pressuring Renshaw from an official CA position went down like a lead balloon in certain parts of the country too.

Nobody I noticed was pushing for Finch to be selected and not many are annoyed he's probably about to be dropped. Handscomb at least made a very strong case to initially be selected, did well early, but has since gone off the boil. Again, most people, from what I can tell, are happy for him to be dropped.

If anything, Mitch Marsh seems to embody some of Langer's inconsistencies regarding selection, especially compared to others who have performed well at Shield level recently.

This
The about face on selection based on form undermines everything.

You can't play Handscomb.

He doesn't even get on the front foot to a full delivery.

He doesn't have the technique for test grade cricket.

It would be a lamb to the slaughter... Again...

Has played one Test under him.
??? He played in the UAE, and was named test VC under Langer's stewardship. This isn't a state-vs-state nonsense argument, the selectors have been picking legitimately shit players since he became coach. There's definitely a link there.

The public pressure on Renshaw and Maxwell, then not selecting them when it seemed like the best time to pick them, only to with a few old favourites or complete left-field options, has no doubt shattered their confidence.

I just find it utterly bizarre a test centurion in Maxwell can't even get a look in at Sydney, yet a spud like Marnus (yes, he has wickets) who legitimately cannot bat, is the next no. 6. The quest for a test all rounder is nauseating.

Baffling selections and ignoring of certain players predate Langer. Don’t blame him for Maxwell not getting a look in, selectors appear to have stamped his papers long ago. As for having shit players, put some of the blame where it belongs: CA for not developing the Shield correctly and Smith/Warner for being clowns. Simple fact is, Australia has performed better under him than they had any right to and aren’t acting like a bunch of assholes. That’s more than a pass mark for now.

Pass mark? That’s extremely generous. They have won 1 test.

He’s made some awful calls too- with Marsh being vice captain the worst. That decision is up there with the WORST decision in our cricket history...a captain who averages 24 with the bat...surely and I mean surely you can realise how stupid that call was!

So does his appearance at relatively short odds for most runs in the Sydney Test mean Joe Burns is in the squad?

Haven’t seen Burns named. The only one named has been Laubashgne

What kind of statistical metric will they come up with this time to justify selecting Marnus over Maxwell? Baffling choice

It amazing how someone who statistically in Sheffield Shield this year is well done the ranks in both bowling and batting.

"Laubuschagne sits 27th on the Sheffield Shield run-scorers list for this season. Twenty-seventh. He has made 254 runs at 28.22 in five matches, with a pair of half-centuries. With the ball, he has taken five wickets at 59.60, placing him 36th on the wicket-takers charts.

On bare numbers of form, we have selected our 27th-best batsman and 36th-best bowler to help stop Virat Kohli’s Indian side becoming the first to win a Test series on Australian soil. The 27th-best batsman in a series where Australia’s batting has been woefully brittle (its top-score is 72 through three Tests, with a team best of 326). The 36th-best bowler to face Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara on an SCG pitch that is far from the raging turner of years past"

Even more baffling with the selection is it has come off the back of a deplorable batting effort at the MCG when it is blatantly evident we need to strengthen our batting.

Is Laubuschagne even our best spinning all rounder option?
