They interviewed Simpson today on 3AW. Lots of guffaws from Richo & Co about his supposed touch.
His response was that he, "had so much of it that he almost marked it". Cue more chuckles and backslapping from the commentary team.

They know he didn't touch it.
We know he didn't touch it.
He certainly knows he didn't touch it.

Seems that the only person that was convinced that it was touched was the umpire that overruled the mark.

Oh, and Matt Lobbe, but that's more likely to be a result of our coaching panel's "never complain" strategy.

The umpiring in our games is so poor consistently that I can't even find words for it. Yesterday was blatant cheating, no more, no less. The problem with the umpiring is their never held accountable for that level of incompetence. No media personality bar Sam Newman will touch the subject, the AFL don't allow them to be criticized by anyone. Yesterday from the Westhoff mark taken off him, Henderson's dropped mark paid a mark, Wingard nearly getting his arm ripped off trying to mark in the 2nd, the blatant joke/cheat of a call to give Arnfield another kick after he wasted his advantage in a 4 point game that affects the result and is a major factor in it. The players aren't playing well, but everytime they got going yesterday the umpires would step in. I'm not gonna mention Sammy's mark or Hammers kick either.

My biggest issue with the umpires bar their incompetence is the fact they think their stars of the game. Some moron has given them microphones which isn't necessary, no one wants to hear from them. They have a press conference every Monday with Wayne Campbell where he basically justifies their poor performance and they never get called out on it.

A good umpire is not noticed, not given a platform to be so inept at his job that he thinks he's a star of the game. They aren't their there to enforce the rules nothing more, people can live with mistakes they are human, but blatant cheating and incompetence I won't accept especially when so much is expected of the players, clubs, coaches and staff.

The free kick count isn't even the worst of it.

  • Calling Armfield back and letting him take his shot again after he'd clearly taken advantage isn't reflected by the free kick count (and a similar thing happened later after a wayward Cripps clearance was brought back for him to take again, but that didn't result in a goal so it hasn't been brought up as much)
  • The umpire smothering Hartlett's pass isn't reflected in the free kick count
  • Henderson's non-mark being paid isn't reflected in the free kick count
  • The Colquhoun debacle isn't reflected in the free kick count

People often say that just because you got the rough end of the free kick count it doesn't necessarily mean you were disadvantaged, because the free kick count isn't always reflective of the fairness or otherwise of the umpiring, and that's 100% true. But in our case, we were actually mistreated even worse than the 24-10 free kick count indicates.

And to rub it in further, we played like a bunch of fairhaired cleanskins and Carlton pushed 'unsociable football' to the limit, knocking out our best player with an illegal tackle that didn't draw so much as a free.

If anything the FK-count should've reflected Carlton's retrograde football, instead it was condoned.

It's funny how opposing team supporters are telling us to stop blaming the umpires for losing. But you just know that if the same happened to their team they would be just as angry as us About it and would be complaining the same. Bloody double standard hypocrites they are

Sorry to intrude guys but I was absolutely disgusted with what occurred that final quarter with the umpires. We had a quarter like that in the second term on Friday night.

The rules committee make it so difficult to officiate the game that I am not sure if it is really the umpires fault.

You have every right to be filthy

It happens to us too often with Matthew Nicholls for it not to be deliberate.

If the dumb asses could comprehend what they are reading they'd see that most of us aren't blaming the umpires for our poor performances.
We are blaming the umpires for their poor decisions and blatant bias.

If we were in top form and blowing teams away, the umpiring wouldn't matter so much. We'd bounce straight back after bullshit free kicks that prevent us a goal or cost us a goal at the other end.

However when you are struggling to find form, or in close games, poor umpiring becomes a deciding factor in the outcome.

Any supporter of any club would be fuming and rightly so. So my advice is just ignore the dumb ass trolls.

Ultimately it's the AFL's fault. They allow it to happen and do not reign in these knob jockey umpires who think they are gods on the field.
I know some will disagree, but I can't wait for the day AFL becomes a little European soccer-esque and umpires cop a beating from the fans.

But it was technically the correct decision to strip Colquhoun of possession because Simpson didn't touch it derp

I swear this guy umpires every single port game. Can't handle him

If you look closely at the replay the ball would have hit our player if the umpire was not in the way. IT WAS NOT A SHANKED KICK!!!!!!!!

I agree with a ball up if this happens in open play but Hartlett should have got the ball back as it was a free kick and the umpire was partly at fault

Let's just make up rules to suit ourselves as we go along

It doesn't change the incorrect bullshit of taking possession off hoon, but it really was touched - pretty solidly too.

But, holy **** - that was easily the most rigged game I have ever seen.

I just knew there was going to be a horrendous decision late in the game.

It was so bad, I really feel like I can't be bothered watching footy for a while - and I have never had that before. It really has affected my enjoyment of the sport.

Well done afl.

I've got a theory that you get these type of games every 2 or 3 years. The type of games where you just get reamed from start to finish by umpires so determined to handicap you that it's pretty much comical to all and sundry whether supporter, opposition or neutral. The ones that stick in my head from the recent past are Bulldogs 2007, Essendon 2011 and North Melbourne 2013. You can now add Carlton 2015 to that list.

We were at the game and as neutrals were thinking how it seemed the decisions were all going Richmonds way.
