Bluebear - where do you think Cam Cloke is of most value to Carlton?
The last two years and possibly next, as a big body to compete in the ruck (remember, Cam is only 23), so exactly where he has been.

Next year?

Depends.

If we get Warnock then they will give him first ruck, Cam to CHF/FF and Kreuzer off the bench or CHF, after all, Cam was first and foremost a forward.

Hampson into the reserves.

Warnock then has about 5 weeks to show he can handle first ruck, otherwise Cam goes back in and the rotations begin.

No question our ruck is an issue, but another young and weak body won't fix it.
Hampson has an incredible leap on him, and probably wouldn't be far off Warnock's peak height when they both jumped for a ball........but Hampson, despite this leap, hasn't been able to impact the ruck this year, for exactly the same reasons Warnock hasn't.

Their bodies are not strong and the bigger guys jump into them, knock them back and they can't reach the ball.

Warnock will be a good ruckman, just not sure he will so much better than Hampson that it is worth giving up a young key forward at 24.

This thread is worth a look, especially with regards to Warnock.

Last year the Pies traded pick 14 to gain the services of Wood. At the moment the decision is looking like they paid slightly over the odds, but in the long term who knows?

I'm just really glad that our first pick is 6th and there is NOT a hope in hell we would trade that for Warnock. Having our second pick where it is may save us from paying over the odds.

well, if he does end up going to carlton, for his 1 mill over 3 year, thats gonna cause a problem

if judds on close to 1 mill a season, and fevs new contract is about 700 from what has been said, throw in warnock and you have under 5 mill for the rest -

enjoy lossing the draft picks if you get caught out for cheating....AGAIN ;)

You DO realise 1 million over 3 years = 1,000,000 / 3? = $333,000 per year? NOT 1,000,000 per year... hardly a huge salary cap drain if that was the MAX deal offered.

Ackland out at $300k......Warnock in.

Despite being a little overpriced.......I know which one I'd rather pay $300k to.

Pay no attention to the "They must be cheating" cries sublime............jealousy is a cruel mistress as these supporters are finding out.

You don't understand the trade rules. An uncontracted player nominates who his former Club trades with. If no deal can be reached, he goes into the PSD and you get zip. :)

But there isn't a rule that says a player can only nominate one club. Tarrant for example wanted to play for West Coast but when it became obvious that a deal wasn't going to be done between Collingwood and the Eagles he agreed to be traded to Fremantle.

It depends where Melbourne sit in Warnock's batting order. If Carlton offer a crap deal and Richmond/Saint Kilda offer something decent and agree to his terms and he'd rather play for that club than Melbourne he'll agree to a trade to Saint Kilda/Richmond.

As i backend into a Kleenex,
there are 19 pages of this explained with italics and smiley faces.

So Warnock to announce Carlton as his club of choice on wednesday according to ch 10 in Perth...

Does all of this inuendo(sp?) and speculation seem to have a little bit of de-ja-vue about it to anyone else?

To me it seems very familiar to the way things went with Judd last year.

So let me stick my neck out :p and suggest that Warnock is already in the bag for us and if you were happy with the Judd trade then you will be happy with how Warnock pans out too !!!! :thumbsu:

Hope you are right Amers, would have to be a great deal to top the Judd deal.

Dodd, Ruffles among axed Dockers
FREMANTLE'S end-of-season cleanout has continued with the culling of four more senior-listed players, including contracted youngster Tim Ruffles, who is recovering from a second knee reconstruction.

Steven Dodd, Ryan Murphy, Brock O'Brien and Ben Bucovaz have also been cut ahead of the first list lodgement at the end of this month.

Ruffles is the third Docker this year - alongside Bucovaz and young midfielder Chris Hall - to be cut after just two seasons on the club's senior list.
Dodd, Ruffles among axed Dockers

Ruffles has been delisted due to injury, but only Suban remains at Freo after we traded 24, 56 and 72 for Warnock and pick 69.

Bucovaz has been cut without playing a game.

I hope O'keeffe is luckier than Ruffles and Bucovaz.

I would just like to point out that we paid 24 and 56 for Warnock, then got 33 and 64 (I think?) for Jacobs, who is not as good as Warnock.

Puts the Jacobs deal in perspective doesn't it?

Replace "warnock" with "jacobs"
then turn the freo supporters into carlton, the carlton fans into adelaide and pick 6 to pick 14 and its an identical debate to this year

The difference is Warnock has a heap more talent and upside than Sammy. The Warnock trade was a massive win for us, whereas the Jacobs trade result was a disappointing "small win". A win's a win I guess.

:)

Hate to ruin the disillusioned society that you live in Parrot, but whilst Warnock was playing in the WAFL, and playing averagely, Sammy Jacobs was playing elimination finals. Warnock has a heap of potential, and always looked like he did, but don't cut Sam Jacobs short, it was not a win, he is a gun ruckman, and just because he doesn't wear the navy blue, don't sell him short

Warnock is better than Sammy. We paid slightly more for him than we got for Sammy.

The free market works.

You gotta love subjectivist posts dont ya. In the Warnock trade we think we paid overs and Freo think they were robbed, in the Sauce trade we wanted 14 and got 33 and think we were robbed and Adelaide thinks they paid overs by handing over a 60's pick.

Damn right it works!

Don't forget Sammy was pretty much playing for his career in 2010 - his contract renewal year. Quite often the best you see of a player is when their career is on the line.

Sammy may disappear into the abyss (lower league) again.

Definitely. In most trading of any commodity, there is generally a party who would come out feeling slightly worse. When you're trading people, there are so many variables that its impossible to get 100% equal value.

Just like trading a $2 coin for 40 5 cent pieces. They both add up to $2 but the person with all the poo change would feel slightly dudded on the deal even though the real value is the same.

The bloke who taught me my job, my old boss used to say that the most annoying thing about buying and selling stuff was if someone gleefully accepted your first offer regardless of if he had lowballed them. It always left him wondering how much more they would have paid or how much cheaper he could have bought for.

If you want evidence as to why the 2 trades are totally different, go no further than ask Jacobs himself. He basically said he wasn't going to get a game ahead of Warnock. No disrespect to Sammy, but Warnock is a few talent classes above him, also 6cm taller and a much better athlete. That's why we paid way unders for Warnock, and got back a little overs for Jacobs. I was hoping we'd win on the Jacobs trade by a bigger margin though, but our focus shifted to getting Laidler very cheaply, so we had to settle for only a small win on the Jacobs trade in order to get a huge win on the Laidler trade before the deadline. Warnock's true market value was about pick 12 when he was traded.

:)
