SERIOUSLY time the AFL demanded Channel 7 started showing Friday night games live instead of on delay.
I offer this experience from Friday night.
Living in the country I opted to watch the game in my favourite watering hole.
All was going well, the Tigers were looking good and I was enthralled to see if we could hold on.
Suddenly, I get a swag of text messages along the lines of "You'd be happy with a draw", "What an ending", "Tigers did well to come away with two points".
Ruined what was a seriously good game of football.
Show the God-damn thing live!!!
Zero consideration!!!

Not as simple as it sounds mate ... I work in a job that demands my phone be switched on 24/7.
Beleive me, there's times I'd gladly switch the thing off days at a time ... not an option!

Goldy you need a media ban !! When I can't get to the game and have to watch it etc... Phones are off the hook, mobile is on silent until after the game. I won't even let me wife watch tv in the other room ... because she might look at me funny because shes seen the result on a news broadcast !!

Its a disgrace how many ads they put into the coverage, thus resulting in the game finishing at 11.45pm on TV.

Show it live outside of Melbourne. Anyone who lives in Melbourne can watch it delayed. If they really want to watch it live then they would want to be at the game wouldn't they?????

It won't happen under Demetriou's reign - that is a stone cold certainty.
His only priority is money - nothing more, nothing less, the more profit the AFL makes the greater the bonuses he receives. He tries to bluff us that he's all about the fans and that "it's clear that the people want live football" but he never elaborates on what has or will occur in the negotiations..and the spineless journo's are sh1t scared of him and don't pressure him for a clear and definitive answer - it's a total crock o' shite.

The question I would like answered is.....

WHY IS BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS SUCH COMPELLING flipping VIEWING???

Solution is simple. Footy fans start a social media compaign to watch whatever channel 9 serves up at 7:30 instead. Once 7 feels that its rating are being smashed at 7:30, they will only have one way to get the ratings back up, give the fans (viewers) what they want and put on the footy live.

I want to know why they don't show it live on 7mate and delayed on the main channel. Or the main channel could pick up the live telecast after Better Homes & Olde Farts with the full live coverage on 7mate. The situation is just rediculous

Isn't the main reason so they can show more ads after a goal? The only way around that is to get it recorded and watch it delayed of the delayed and fast forward through the damn ads...drive me crazy!

Nothing worse Goldy...whenever a call comes in...first words are always "don't talk football!' But text messages...sucks! Wouldn't have looked at them myself...but I can see if work demands it...

1) Better Homes a Gardens rates well with the non night clubbing / social viewers
2) The government wont allow any channel to broadcast a protected sporting event on the none main channel if it hasnt already shown on the prime channel
3) And believe it or not us (old farts outnumber footy fans)

Its easy, turn the radio off, tell your friends that you are watching it delayed or if you can go to the match.

I live in WA, channel 7 starts their coverage at 8.30 pm by which time the game is generally finished already.
Eventually I just got Fox who now start their broadcast at 8pm, but it finishes about an hour and a bit earlier because there is no ads and the breaks only go for about 5 mins each.
I was in Bali this week and the game was shown LIVE at a sports bar

Yep, I did all those things on Friday and lasted all of 15 minutes before I turned them all on again because I couldn't stand the suspense.
Re the coverage? I hate the 20-minute half time break on TV. Cut it to five minutes and get the 2nd half on.

Thankfully, Austar broadcast the Friday game live on the Main Event channel with no ads in QLD, probably the best coverage out there ATM. Must be a weird loophole there because it says QLD/ACT viewers only, despite the fact none of the other states are getting it live.

Reason I mention it is that if Packer wins Fox/Austar will be a much bigger part of the picture - all games live and an ad free option for every game is what I'm after (I very nearly get that ATM barring the 2nd Sunday game, but only because I'm in QLD), if he wins that's what we'll get on Pay TV at least.
