Sri's articles are always a laugh. All over a plan that doesn't actually exist yet or outright ignoring that Brisbane doesn't actually need a new stadium - which caused his party to have significant electoral losses in Queensland.

He does make a good point about court challenges and Ministerial intervention though, neither are likely to stop Vic Park from happening.

I think when Sri puts out these articles it is for hits on his website.
Most likely the majority of hits come from this BF site

The Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee announced it will launch its procurement program on October 8 at The Star, Queen’s Wharf. Tickets to the event are priced at AUD250 per head, with attendees gaining early insight into more than 50 expressions of interest (EOI) packages.

Brisbane 2032 President, Andrew Liveris, will headline the event alongside CEO Cindy Hook, Paris 2024 Organising Committee Chief Finance and HR Officer, Fabrice Lacroix, and Queensland Olympic and Paralympic Games Minister, Tim Mander. Together, they will reveal the first tranche of procurement opportunities, timelines, and guidance for businesses preparing to pitch for work.

Interesting to hear Caro last night on Agenda Setters (33 minutes in) mention the Queensland Government had a significant number of representatives at the QClash Semi on Saturday night. Apparently they're looking for a "much bigger role" in the footy world post-Olympics like "Gather Round style football"
I know everyone is super keen on Adelaide currently hosting Gathering Round, but post-2032 Brisbane would be honestly the best site for the thing.

Vic park stadium for the big games with the rest able to be played at the refurbished RNA which is a 10-15 minute walk away, meaning crowds can bounce between the two as they see fit. Plus walking distance to the valley for beers.

Allows the whole event to be very centralised.

We need a third venue, we could send Collingwood to play North at Michael Voss Oval.;)

Seriously though if they needed a 3rd venue Metripong is not all that far away for a game or 2, one of them involving the Suns.

The RNA will be too small to play AFL
The Gabba will be pulled down.
That just leaves Olympic Stadium in 2033, Metricon and Southport, possibly BHA. Maybe you could push Ipswich as a destination but that's a stretch.
You have Burpengary and South Pine Sports complex but no attraction there like a wine region.
Could be something on the Sunshine Coast but i don't know the grounds in that part of the world

The Gold and Sunshine Coast at least have something for people to travel to.

Do we know the length and width of the current oval? Could it be more awkward than Norwood?

The RNA is intentionally being developed to be AFL-sized. It'll be a smaller oval, but it'll definitely be usable. That's a big part of the Gather Round pitch.

Interesting to hear Bleijie say in the presser that Arup has a 12-month plan to develop the master plan.

I assume the Stadium contract won't be waiting 12 months to pass before commencement.

Anything is usable but, in my opinion, it will be way too small.
This was talked about in depth when Labor was going to move the Lions and cricket to the RNA while Gabba rebuilt.

It could be used for cricket and it's possible that is what is planned for in 2032. But it could be used for lots of things.

EDIT
I believe the minimum for an AFL oval is 135 x 110 meters

The RNA ground is about 132 meters to Gregory Terrace.
The green ticks are heritage grandstands and have to stay.
I suppose they could close Gregory Terrace for good or build over the road but i doubt they have the money to go over the road. Closing Gregory Terrace for good is also unlikely.

I could not work out how to do 2 measurements on google maps without the first one being deleted.

Across: Grandstand to the actual street is 132 meters
Length: The green arrow is 150 meters. That could be extended.

You then have to add the "outside the boundary" line area being between 6-8 meters (12-16 meters in total)

I checked Kadina Park on google maps and the width (115m) is boundary line to boundary line with 5.7 meters to boundary

Norwood Oval is 165 x 110 meters

Brisbane would be the best place for a post mid season break for a gather round style event.

Yes it would be good and great promotion for the game in QLD, we saw how the covid year supercharged footy there, a gather round or two could do similar.

I actually think gather round should maybe be every second year in S.A. or two in every 3 years there. The concept is so good for the game, I don't think pigeon holing it to one location for ever is smart. I'd like to see it in Perth in 2027 by the way, w.a needs the help as footy is going backwards there on most metrics.

Too far for most to travel tbh. Would be great but can’t it working anywhere near as well as Adelaide

I think you are underestimating what a 3.8billion olympic stadium will do, everyone in the country will want to come especially if there teams are at the stadium
