Ah well. Even if he hadve stayed he probably wouldve requested a trade to Carlton the day after the 87 Grand Final anyway

His departure from Hawthorn to Geelong has been rumoured to have something to do with inappropiate behavior in the dressing rooms.

GAJ was sent to the country to sort himself out. Played one season for Myrtleford then went to Geelong. Not sure of the contractual side after that. He played OK at Myrtleford without being outstanding, although he did represent Ovens & Murray league - on the wing if I recall correctly.
You mean between 2007 and 2010?
Ignoring what Ablett could have done for your club in the 80s and 90s, imagine what the father son rule could have done for you between 2007 and now.
A bit of nostalgia. I hope this works.
Looks so much like blight there...
The Abletts were a pretty rough bunch.
The club got sick of Gary's court appearances and the many legal bills.
And his walkabout ways.
Also, older brother Kevin took time out of his footy career to spend some time in a cold, hard place.
About 18 months in total!
Quite a family ...
.
We always thought Hawthorn was a cheque book recruiter. We thought when you actually had to plan, strategize and develop your cattle as a result of draft/salary cap, it took you awhile to learn.thanks for helping me out with the Gary Ablett thing, maybe you could explain to me what went wrong after'being very spoiled' in the 80's,why did the team slump so alrmingly?
Old Gazza was a naughty boy in the early years and used to pinch cars to come to training lol......and of course Jeansy being a copper was sick of his bad behaviour and moved him on.
Jeans was asked if it was a mistake and his response was Hawks 4 flags in the 80's Geelong with Ablett zero[/quote]
One of Allan Jeans best quotes and he had many great quotes
