Next weekend against North Melbourne Gary Ablett Jnr plays his 200th game in Geelong colours and it's fitting that he'll achieve it in front of his home crowd.

Pay homage to the great man in here.

He becomes the 33rd player in the clubs history to have played 200 games.

Pity he never stayed could had been a 300 game champion for the club
... and a four-time premiership player ;)

I was trying to pick what it is that makes him look so distinctive in style as he runs with the footy, and I finally worked it out - I've never seen someone hold the footy the way he does when he's about to kick. He holds it out in front of his knees, completely dead-on vertical. Seems to work just fine, of course.

I thought that number looked low, but then looking at the stats Carlton seem to have the most with 36. I think that makes it 17 players players from our drought-breaking 2007, 2009, 2011 teams alone.

Well I timed the shit outta this one..

Been here for Boris 300, GAJ last game for GFC at KP in 2010...

and now back for his 200th GFC match.. and the Tin lids will see their first ever GFC game live and its GAJ 200th for us.

Just hope it works out better than Boris' 300th did.

Gun, love having him back at the Cats.

Watching him play live Saturday night was awesome "kid can play"

I'm glad Krock don't have their articles behind paywalls - this is an extract from when Hawkins played his 200th game last year:

“I vividly remember walking into the change rooms and walking around and seeing players that had played 100 games on and around my locker in blue writing,” Hawkins, who also has the 2012 Carji Greeves Medal to his name, recalled.
“Then those players that had played over 200 were in silver writing and those that played 300 were in gold.
“Above my locker was the 200-plus game board, and for some reason that stuck in my mind a bit.

Gary plays game #200 on Saturday - theoretically his name will be in blue on locker #29, so will he get his name in silver on either locker #4 or locker #29 now that he has played 200 games, or will his name only be added to the 200-plus games board?

So Daz, You're really Jimmy Barnes then.

Maybe you could ask Gil if the tin lids can perform at grand final this year at half time.

Anyone know who told Gaz in his presser that he's the first father/son to play 200 for the club? I'm just sitting here befuddled by how someone thought that was true a few days after Scarlo went into the HoF.
I haven't heard his presser, but maybe it was worded poorly and he meant that the Ablett's are the first father & son to each play 200 games for the club.

While Matt Scarlett played 284 matches in his career, John Scarlett "only" played 183 matches for Geelong

I'm guessing that is probably what was being hinted in the presser

That would make sense. I also might not have heard it that clearly, the press conference questions are nearly inaudible.

There was a flog who suggested that GAS + GAJ playing 200 games for the Cats wasn't that important because they weren't 'born in Geelong':rolleyes::rolleyes: I just cbf searching for the quote.

Who thinks like that? :huh::huh::huh:

Grasping. If it wasn’t that it’d be something else.

I wouldn't have thought so. He'd need to go on in 2020, can't see it myself.

At least Geelong will get his first born son + hopefully a few more sons + some daughters :blueheart::blueheart::blueheart::blueheart::blueheart::blueheart:
