Ablett played his first season as his teams Full Forward in 1993. At this point he was already 30+ and had already kicked just under 600 goals as a Wing,HFF player.He ended up with over 1000 goals in his career.
From 1993 he really took off though. Here are the stats:
Goal Avg: Goals in Brackets:
1993 = 7.29 (124 in 17 games)
1994 = 5.16 (129 in 25)
1995 = 5.54 (122 in 22)
1996 = 4.05 (69 in 17)
Totals = 444 goals in 81 games Avg: 5.48
In 81 games he kicked:
10+ = 7 times
5-9 = 43 times
1-4 = 29 times
0 = 2 times
Remember, the figures above were all achieved after his 30th birthday. Without these years he would still be remembered as one of the greats of the game. Those years however did exist and imo put him out in front of any other player that has played.
On top of that, he did it in a style that all other players could only dream about.

bresker said:That's a bit hard when you are called Gary Ablett. If I cut my leg in a lawnmower accident tomorrow I doubt if I'd make the papers. He didn't ask to be named in Geelong's team of the century.
Look at the amount of time his name is mentioned on this board, on the radio, in papers or on TV. You can't just blame the media, as us gossipers want to hear about him.
What can he do about it? Shut himself off in a monastery? He's got to lead some sort of life.
And with respect to the Horan family, only they know how they feel. I'm sure they are fed up with people speaking for them, or talking about the girl's death every time Ablett's name is mentioned.
Ablett doesn't step into the limelight, it follows him around.
He rang channel 9 with an offer to step into the limelight (for $20k!!!) it was all his idea.bresker said:Ablett doesn't step into the limelight, it follows him around.

Not even the best of the modern era. Lethal, Carey..then Ablett.LongBomb said:Sorry champ but Ablett was far superior.
Nothing to be ashamed of though as he was the best that has ever played![]()

Ablett was ajudged to have been neglegent but what are the parents of this young girl doing while there daughter is on an all night bender with a middle aged man. I know my mum would not let me do that at 18 so for the media to blame Ablett is pretty disgraceful in my opinion.

2. Some players get fined for turning up to training late, Ablett turned up for training almost half a season late and sleepy hollow rejoiced.
